"DISGRACED" by Ayad Akhtar at Kelsey Theatre at MCCC, PinnWorth Productions
Disgraced is a 2012 play by novelist and screenwriter Ayad Akhtar. It premiered in Chicago and has had Off-Broadway and Off West End engagements. The play, which won the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for Drama,[1] opened on Broadway at the Lyceum Theater October 23, 2014. Disgraced has also been recognized with a 2012 Joseph Jefferson Award for New Work - Play or Musical and a 2013 Obie Award for Playwriting. It is Akhtar's first stage play. The 2014 Broadway transfer earned a Tony Award for Best Play nomination in 2015. The play is centered on sociopolitical themes such as Islamophobia and the self-identity of Muslim-American citizens. It focuses on a dinner party between four people with very different backgrounds. As discussion turns to politics and religion, the mood quickly becomes heated. Described as a "combustible powder keg of identity politics," the play depicts racial and ethnic prejudices that "secretly persist in even the most progressive cultural circles." It is also said to depict the challenge for upwardly mobile Muslim Americans in the post-9/11 America.(1) "DISGRACED" is being produced by PinnWorth Productions, producers, LouJ Stalsworth, Kate Pinner, Directed by Robert A. Terrano, Stage Management by Vicki Kaiser and Staring M. Ammar Farooq as Amir, Cat Miller as Emily, Deena Jiles as Jory, Chris Capitolo as Issac, and Tilak Trivedi as Abe. (1) Wikipedia contributors. Fantastic
Who are you people?? this is spectacular. My all time fave musical and you performed it brilliantly.
God, this is dreadful. They’ve apparently changed the setting to somewhere on Long Island. Violet is in a different play altogether. August: Osage County is a brilliant (and very funny) play, though you’d never know it watching this.
This audience is dead.
That audience was not vibin’ w it
Chronic. They’re just reading the lines as fast as they can, no acting, terrible accents and not working together. Did they pass their course?
There certainly is plenty to enjoy here, but I've always been fascinated how Brits are better at doing American stories then Americans are at doing British stories and this one is distinctly British... It's clear that some of the cast didn't really understand the slang or the context in which it was normally used so some of the irony is lost in their delivery as Well there's some rushed dialogue with other instances of slang being delivered at too slow the pace. In any case as I said there are certainly plenty to enjoy here. The 96 film adaption was such a perfect storm that any production no matter how well it captures the original script and some of its brilliant nuances or scenes left out( like the whole cagney and Lacey gag), well it's just saying nothing will likely ever be as good or surpass the film. When watching it after seeing a stage production of this play it's clear that Jonathan Harvey wrote it and wrote it after the fact streamlining it, and making it more timeless. In essence with the play script seeming almost like a rough draft.
finally a jack that can dance! and a cast that has it's harmonies on LOCK, this is such a good production
"This is for sharing only among cast members for evaluation purposes. Do not share with anyone outside off cast and crew." I feel naughty for watching this now.
This is a treasure. Thanks for this!

I feel ya!!
The song is so quiet without taps. That’s wild
Can I have lyrics please
[DAVEY] Now is the time to seize the day Stare down the odds and seize the day Minute by minute, that's how you win it We will find a way But let us seize the day Courage cannot erase our fear Courage is when we face our fear Tell those with power safe in their tower We will not obey! [DAVEY & JACK] Behold the brave battalion that stands side by side Too few in number and too proud to hide Then say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for you [DAVEY, JACK, CRUTCHIE, & RACE] Now is the time to seize the day Stare down the odds and seize the day [NEWSIES] Once we've begun If we stand as one Someday becomes somehow And a prayer becomes a vow [JACK] And the strike starts right damn now! [DAVEY] Now is the time to seize the day [NEWSIES] Now is the time to seize the day [DAVEY] Answer the call and don't delay [NEWSIES] Answer the call and don't delay [DAVEY & NEWSIES] Wrongs will be righted If we're united Let us seize the day [JACK] Now let 'em hear it loud and clear [NEWSIES] Now let 'em hear it loud and clear [JACK] Like it or not we're drawing near [NEWSIES] Like it or not we're drawing near [JACK & NEWSIES] Proud and defiant We'll slay the giant Judgment day is here Houston to Harlem, look what's begun One for all and all for one! Strike! Strike! Strike! Strike! Strike! Strike! Oh! Strike! All right Jack! Come on, Specs! (Instrumental) Hi (Hi) What’s he doing Ohhhh You see that Mr. Pulitzer! Ohhh! (Instrumental) Now is the time to seize the day They're gonna see there's hell to pay Nothing can break us No one can make us quit before we're done One for all and all for One for all and all for One for all and all for one!

What kind of director sees that the first act of a play runs 30 minutes and thinks that it's okay? Sorry, but if your actors are rushing that much, you're doing a bad job,
They are speaking to fast and these scenes seems to be rushed. But great play.
this is so good!!
Great production its hard to see how over the top the stage production is to the movie. .yes the movie was tooo...but the characters get lost in the stage production
incredible. I wanted tips on how the three platforms were made. do you have a project that can guide me in making such a scenario? And how was the projector issue resolved? Were six used for each screen? if you could help thank you
I think all they did for the rectangles are 8 or 12 ft platforms
its 2020- Terrence Mcnally just passed it was wonderful to see this live action cast. LOVE
This is a fabulous choreography ! Artistic and entertaining at the same time !
Anyone going to talk about how GREAT this Katherine is?
This made my heart so happy. I miss my Newsies <3
Wow, this is an impressive production!!
"Why do old people talk?" "To prove they still alive." Why is this my first time hearing this quote? Why hasn't the internet informed me of it earlier?
They did the erster joke a lot better than TKA
Crutchie has the crutch opposite
I love how you just cut to the Disney version for the last few notes😂 I’m not complaining, I get to hear Ben Cook’s glorious C#6 at the end
XD
Where is act II? :)

HOW TF ARE YOU SINGING IT SO FAST YOURE SO FREAKING TALENTED WHAT OMG
Maia Gisby it was the hardest thing I ever did in my life lol
@@BridgieBo0 Okay, so can I ask for some tips and pointers? I'm gonna play Katherine in my production this thursday, but in Watch What Happens, that transition note near the end is awful to hit (so whatever happenssssss). Any tips to be able to not scream the note and then break down into tears because as i may have mentioned I have no clue what im doing...
Maia Gisby I tried to sing the E vowel in happens as more of an A so I could lift my soft palate and get a more resonant sound but it was a hit or a miss. I still kinda sounded like I was screaming a little 😂
@@BridgieBo0 Alright, thank you, I'll try that. :))))
Please upload again act 2
What an amazing cast! Such strong vocals! Well done all xx
I really like this sped up version 😍 also this Katherine is really talented
Awful that the angel messed up her only line as the angel in the entire Part 1. How is it possible that she screwed up the most famous line of the entire masterwork??? The line is, "The great work begins," not "OUR great work begins." !!!
You're wrong.
Ethan Child no he is not....
Is there any need to shout? Particularly the blond boy, the silly, sudden high inflections in his voice! Can they act properly? I know you need to project your voice on stage, but without SHOUTING like that! I would have walked out within the 1st 10 minutes if I was in the audience! Was this actually an Australian production? I'm getting a hint of an Australian accent, particularly from Ste! The original 1995 film is much better, and the bedroom scenes far more subtle, just as it should be between Jamie and Ste, without them shouting at each other!
Can’t stop laughing at the accents 😂 aw well they gave it a go
This is definitely helping to fill in some of the gaps in Jamie’s characterization for me.
dear god... the accents. i know it's feigned, but it's supposed to NOT sound feigned!
They is no sound
The accents are terrible and the dialogue is delivered to quickly... shame.
Good...but why did the director move her away from the other two? Makes no sense the song is addressed to them... the lady ended up singing it to the audience...
i like the movie better than whatever this is. a horrible play of a great movie.
While I love this story and I have the movie to prove it, I do agree that the lines were rushed and that because of the accents, some of the really funny lines from the movie were lost like the fact that Sandra used to push the infant Jamie in a pram called "Queen of the Road."
A piece of shit
It would interesting to know how this most English of plays translates to an American audience. I mean surely the references to Richard & Judy, Coronation Street, Hello! magazine and "north of the river" must seem a touch obscure.
American gay men love this show. In general it translate well.
this Tony is hot! but it seams like they rush the play a bit, feels weird.
This is awful. Bring back Jake and Danny Boy
