This is my favorite episode in the entire saga. Not only does it illustrate the jaw dropping (and terrifying) scope of the war, it gracefully intertwines deeply moving personal moments between our favorite characters. Rick and Minmei's drama and Lisa's unresolved issues with her father set against the frightening and gut wrenching Rain of Death sequence is just one great example of what makes Robotech a truly timeless story.

Rick is such a fuckface.

I always saw it as Khyron going to attack Breetai, when he asks for his position, but was never really certain. Considering that he and his men were pegged for extermination by Dolza, it would make more sense for him to assist Breetai and SDF1. But i guess Khyron is chaotic like that.

Voice acting is just top notch on Lisa and Rick. Specially where he's like "Guess I sort of disobeyed your orders again, didn't I?" "hahaha, yeah, that's alright." Lisa laughs in such a way to show the friends they have become, and their history.

I'll give Dolza credit: literally the first thing he does after arriving in Earth orboit is destroying 90 percent of its population. It makes up for keeping Khyron around for too long.

UN Spacey and the Zentradi, two right-wing organizations face off against each other. Even though they had more in common than they realized, neither side would give an inch with the results being plain to see.

I always find it odd that a lot of people I know don't remember this show that much. I mean, honestly how many other shows in the early morning time-slots featured the systematic murder of seven billion people in less than two minutes?

Lisa watching her father getting wiped out is still like "OMG they actually did that!" Minmei singing "We Must Win" with battle in the background. The entire earth getting wiped out. Epic stuff. Hopefully, someone will do it justice in a live action feature if that EVER happens.

I remember watching this in late 80s, man it was a good time to be a kid when I had Robotech rented on VHS from the local video store (I worked for that money)... Man how times change :( I get so nostalgic its sad. I wish kids these days could feel what we felt when we scraped enough cash together to rent some VHS. It was ecstatic to return home with the video in hand.

If only Cartoon Network played programming this good again. ^^

Robotech's dubbed really ruined a classic episode. Macross is on a whole other level.

I sometimes really wish they left the original sound in place. The redone sound effects at times feel totally out of place.

Robotech basically introduced me to anime, without it hardly anybody would have heard of Macross, so what if it's not the same. It was a great series and I'm thankful to Harmony Gold to bringing it to the US.

This episode should've been expanded into a movie as a sequel to "DYRL".i
