As a big fan of Japanese texture I love this video, wish there were a lot more videos like this tbh (find it weird there aren't) I have ordered the scream tail master ball since it's about $10 and love that art. I hope we get more regular arts with texture moving forward as well
Thanks you so much teddiursa is my favorite pokemon and I found this very informative and entertaining ❤
Thank you so much for sharing these videos spotlighting the beautiful artwork of these legendary illustrators. This UA-cam page is as priceless as your amazing collection and I'm so happy I stumbled across it. I can't believe how vast your vault of cards is and I'm really intrigued by the knowledge you have to share. Keep up the content creating, I really wish more UA-camrs made videos showcasing the TCG in the vein that you have, focusing on the intricacies of the illustrations and the style of the artwork. So good!
Aww, that's too kind. Thank you. Means a lot.
So glad Vaporeon saved your box and your masterball-less streak
I feel the reason the Blaziken and Dusknoir are so visually dark is because they take place in the Battle Arcade, which in the game is a very dark room with minimal lights
The N and Reshiram is actually illustrated by Bun Toujo (you've mentioned them a few times on your channel)
Yes, you are correct. Toujo has done the Full Art version. Rika has done the regular holo of N's Reshiram. I should have been more correct. I realised after, but it was too late.
Wonderful video! I've been catching up on your older content (mostly ex era) and I've really enjoyed it. Thank you!
Forgive me if you don’t like this question, but have you ever considered opening Pokémon cards outside? I understand you might have certain obstacles regarding your health, OCD, filming logistics etc., but I keep having this feeling that it would be very a great fit for your comforting persona and video style to be backdropped by the beauty of nature haha
The Goldeen Pokéball reverse to go with your Seaking!
Oh and I love the bear playmat ❤
Arita!!
I feel the same about the price of all the eeveeolutions cards coz I’m trying to get all of them and now I have to get poke and master ball versions. It’s going to kill me financially 😢
Indeed. I'm so sorry. You're not alone there. A lot of people are Eevolutions collectors and this set truly fucks them over. It's a very negative marketing move - and shows how little Creatures thinks about such stuff. The most dedicated of fans are the ones they hurt the most.
Always hanging out for your openings because you always take the time to look at all the artwork. Best of luck with the masterballs :-)
thank you.
Nice pulls, Jon! Happy for you 🙂
Amazing box! Congrats, Jon!
I think it was a huge miss to not have masterballs be one per box.
The box I opened was not great so living vicariously through you right now.
LMAO THE LEAFEON POKEBALL INTO YOUR SILENCE HAHAHA
I didn’t even watch until the golden Pika😀😀😀
Wonderful overview of the set’s artwork & commentary. I appreciate your vids 🙌
what were the 2 singles you purchased?
Ceruledge and Raging Bolt SARs. I've bought a lot more since... cheaper masterballs etc. It's those darn eevolution Master Balls that are making me miserable.
@saturninebear That's right Unonori is one of your top artists! and you're mastering the Cadet line. I had pre-ordered 5 boxes directly from the pokemon center japan but they canceled my order. Probably because I used my US debit card ( I have a Japanese address thanks to a reshipper service) so this set had me real upset x.x As someone who's favorite eeveeloutions are Umbreon & Espeon tied for 1st and Vaporeon 2nd this set is a pain. I want the pokeball and master reverses for all three. but all of the eeveeloutionsif I'm being honest. The only SARs I like from the eeveeloutions art wise are the Umbreon, Sylveon, and Leafeon. Never been a fan of Sui and dislike the style the Vaporeon SAR was drawn in. Would have preferred if Akitsu got the SAR Vaporeon commission. I want all the golds from this set as well, have not been big on the gold cards in the last 3 high class sets but these just appeal to me
@@UH5601 oh no! I hope you manage to find some boxes somewhere. I think of the SAR eevolutions, the Leafeon is the only one that "might" appeal to me, but I'd need to see it in hand. I've ordered the Espeon reverses (both regular and Master), and I've ordered the Vaporeon and Glaceon regular, but will get the Master ones soon. As for the Umbreons.... I am going to give up on collecting Matazo. It's the only option.
Haha nice box but even nicer playmat
I thought of you, as I opened this set. I don't know how you're coping with the Eevolutions.
This would be an absolute god box for me as it has 2 of my top personal chases, congrats!!
They did a couple of omega ruby and Alpha sapphire, they did Primal Groudon and Kyogre and some others.
While I am not a fan of Okacheke they did P. Wooper justice and the art is superb. I really disliked the first AR the P. Wooper got so this was a godsend. I started Elden Ring, first Soulsborne type game I've played and man is it a challenge! I'm also shit at videogames 😅 so that just adds to it
Everyone dies a lot at Elden Ring. You have to just accept it. I'm kind of addicted to it, even though it makes me feel mental - the general freak-show of twisted monstrosities are like a Lovecraftian nightmare. But it's incredibly challenging, often frustrating, but very rewarding.
Didn't know about the Ivysaur but he does look a little wonky. I had the same issue with the Milotic 😂 The rest of these arts are amazing. The Cynthia, Froakie, Marill and Tropius are my favorites (in that order) of his so far. Which is saying something because I personally have very strongly disliked Tropius since I first saw it in Sapphire but the art is too damn good!
Give Tropius another chance! My beloved Bananasaurus.
Nice video! I think you did miss a stand for gimmighoul - if you pause just right at about 06:46 you can see it. The other stands being too tight is a bit of a common thing. Some figure companies recommended you apply heat before putting figures in stands (hairdryer or hot water) as this loosens the plastic without causing damage and makes it much easier. It tightens again as it cools down. Not ideal, but better than the stand being too loose out the box I suppose. I also think the 'sweeties' are bits of gum, and they include them in box collections like these so they can be sold in the candy aisle in stores...clever!
thank you, yes, I did find the gimmighoul stand seconds after I stopped recording. I will bear the hairdryer tip in mind, for next time. :).
Why you don’t like cubone? 21:31 I like this new artist. I hope he’ll draw a lot pokemon
I'm very glad Tropius finally got a flying card
oh absolutely. And I think it might have made the card less appealing if it were green. Either way, it's a card I'm SO in love with.
Wow, you got these quickly! I'm going to wait until I open mine to watch but I definitely will. I have gens 1, 2, 3 and 5 on the way 🙂 Look forward to hearing your thoughts.
The Arita Volcarona and Minahamu Audino are my two favorite cards from these
Will take some more time looking at the Audino.
That store is quite awesome, those door hanger thingys are meant for the shop hanging rack, when its sold out you can see what product is sold out. That store didnt have to include them, but still did, likely as a token of appreciation to include with the product, and/or getting rid of extra cardboard.
Great list! My top 10 cards would be: 10. Gastrodon by Scav 9. Armarouge by DOM 8. Exeggutor by Oswaldo KATO 7. Mankey by Apios 6. Volcarona by matazo 5. Bouffalant by Anesaki Dynamic 4. Eternatus by AKIRA EGAWA 3. Paldean Tauros (water) by toi8 2. Mesprit AR by Hyogonosuke 1. Primeape by Felicia Chen
So happy to see love for that Crabominable card. I think it's breathtaking and one of the best art rares yet (helps that I really like Arita and the pokemon)
You might've ruined the english Neo cards for me with this video haha
I'm sorry. You mean the stretch. Worst on the Blissey from Rev. Japan is always superior, but yes... the Neo cards really suffered.
This is the channel I've been looking for. In depth discussion about artwork and a fellow Arita enthusiast. Looking forward to watching more vids
Aww, what a nice thing to say. Glad someone appreciates it all. Thank you.
Also if you're still looking for more artists: Anesaki Dynamic, Kawayoo, Tokiya, chibi, Hasuno, Hajime Kusajima and nagimiso are some of my favourites
love this, thank you for showcasing it.
Thanks for sharing your Surging Sparks luck! Good stuff!
My favorite new gen mon. Feels a lot like a megaman character, but IDCare.
Great video :) Where did you order it from, if you don't mind me asking. I was thinking about buying it, but i am not sure from where.
I got them from a seller in JAPAN on eBay. I'm afraid I don't remember who they were. Hope you find copies. They're nice, if you like JPN prints of things.
@@saturninebear Thanks for the reply. Just if you don't mind, around what price point should i look for this product?
@@codetester1 I paid c$70 for the pair, because I ordered them when they came out. I think they're a bit cheaper on eBay now, maybe $60, but still... it's a lot of money. If you don't want the complete decks, buying just the single cards you want would be a much cheaper alternative.
@@saturninebear Thanks a lot :)
I just bought up all the Rika cards so far except that full art trainer. I really like this art so far. Have a page of Rika and Akira egawa so far
The Mela's price has really come down of late. Worth picking it up in JPN. I only collect in JPN, because the quality is better and it feels far more "authentic".
@@saturninebear will take another look at mela prices, agreed about Jpn print quality. I have the raboot and Dragonair in JP and a lot more 151 JP. You can def notice the print quality difference.
Lovely selection! For me the best recent set that had art I liked the most were Future Flash and Ancient Roar Regular Top 5 1. Blitzle - Going to be collecting the artist master set style (Only currently doing this with Kuroimori) Amazing tones and painting style. First artist I've seen in the TCG that I was already following on Twitter pre pokemon commission work 2. Volcarona - an fully realized piece of art, love the shift from hot to cold tones and literal temperature 3. Scattebug - flora and a superclean style, shows scale and weakness of weak lil fella, I just love it 4. Keckleon - a strong piece that appeals to me in how it looks like an organized mess. One of Kanda's stronger pieces imo 5. Paldean Tauros (Water) - not a fan of the artist's other arts, but the inclusion of pretty black lines of various weights really elevates this piece for me AR 1. Slakoth - not a fan of the artist or the Pokemon but this card just spoke to me (I am a lazy daydreamer) 2. Feebas - Kuroimori, connecting piece, gorgeous plants 3. Ceruledge - thick lines, beautiful fat strokes of popping color on an appealing Pokemon SAR 1. Milotic - just beautiful. love how KM used a wide color palette for this piece which set it apart from the Gardevoir SAR which stuck to mostly blue silver and white shades. 2. Hydreigon - reminds me of the Shiny Milotic card from way back when because of the clouds. Has a beautiful background unlike most Tera SARs, a very strong hit from Egawa who excels at making the gem facet texture on tera pokemon The rest of the SARs were decent but nothing special for me
All worthy choices. I can't get behind the Slakoth, but that's ok, because we all have different tastes. I might be persuaded about EGAWA's Hydreigon if I saw it in person.
@@saturninebearAppreciate it, and very true. I've seen a lot of images on Ebay and some videos (not the best quality) of it being pulled and it looks solid. Most cards don't capture me until I have them in hand. This was a rare exception. Waiting for the price to drop before I get a copy for myself
The Milotic is amazing! As soon as I saw it I knew it was going to be my chase card for the set
it is incredibly special.
You do have beautiful collection I did saw your vids before and love this kind off content
I really liked this video, I dont know if I'm the one who prompted its creation but I'm glad you made it either way and will tune in to any and every one you do. Lighting and displaying them for the video does pose a challenge, I feel like a lot of the history and detail prior to talking about specific models could be over some more dynamic shots of the whole collection. You have a nice voice to listen to, something more attention grabbing or active behind it would go a long way. When it comes to the figures themselves you mentioned sticking them to surfaces, maybe use a stand that you can mount and rotate them on away from the 'floor' to avoid your concerns about dusty surfaces. At least then you only have to worry about dust on the models. I want more. Make more Please.
Will think about it. Thank you for the input.
Thanks for the video and sharing, I will be waiting for the next part.
unfortunate box
Don’t worry, the focus was mostly settled throughout. Was not a problem for the viewer for sure
In retrospect, this works great for players, but I can definitely understand how it bummed collectors. I feel like there could have been alternate holo prints of cards like non-holo Blastoise/Venusaur and holo versions of some non-holo cards like Arcanine, Electrode, Electabuzz, etc to at least give extra enticement to players and collectors
They could have just reprinted more Base Set and kept it on the shelves. Players would get the cards, without this whiff of dishonesty and grift - selling us the same cards in a "New!" packaging. It felt... sour. Still does.
Never understood this set as a kid. Avoided pikcing it up after opening my first pack and seeing they were reprints of cards I owned. I did love the LCRH pattern becuase it reminded me of fireworks and I was 9. I had pulled the reverse charizard and took it everywhere in a top loader.
If I had been nine, I'd probably have been beguiled by the reverse of Legendary Collection, but I was 35. I wish I had been because I refused to ever buy any of it, and to this day, it's the hole in my collection. Glad you connected with it.
@@saturninebear I don't doubt it. My cousins and I were all over the sparkly holofoil, reminded us of July 4th. Is it really a hole in your collection if you don't care for it?
@@UH5601 Only the Arita cards, because I do try to be completist as much as possible. Luckily I have a "you're off the hook" play there, as I can never complete Arita - he did the original trophy cards, which would set me back several million. So I allow myself to be non-completist because of those.
I remember as a kid really disliking the new holographic pattern. In my mind it just made them not as special.
This is a very valid point of view. They were indeed "less than..."
I think the card the Magearna reminds you/me of is the Growlithe from ex Sandstorm. Very similar angle and layout with the window
Ah, I've just seen your comment!
I've been setting aside her cards in case I want to make an artist binder for her one day, work is really pretty
