Heya! The name's Dash. This channel belongs to my little indie game dev team, Boot-Cat Studio, which consists of myself, my sister, my brother-in-law, and a few friends.
2023 saw the release of our first game, DISHARMONY, which can be found on Steam and Itch.io. Our current project is called Serenity, which most content on this channel will revolve around over the coming years.
I hope you'll enjoy the content on the channel!
Have a good day.

Creating a physics system for my game
I've always had a certain fascination when it comes to physics in video games. They can add so much, yet be so meaningless in the grand scheme of things.
I'm obviously not an expert when it comes to physics, but I still feel like the system I'm working on is shaping up to be a fun gamified approximation of the subject. (Oh and, if this all seems super unnecessary based on what was presented in the video, don't worry! I do actually have plans for how to use this stuff in practical ways.)
While this video covers what I would consider to be the less interesting half of Serenity's physics, I still hope it manages to bring you some entertainment.
If you haven't seen any other videos about the project, go have a look!

In this devlog, I'll take you through a crash course of the game's development history, as well as give you a teaser of what's to come in the near future. This is the second shortest devlog yet, and sadly the audio quality is pretty rough, since I recorded it with my microphone turned the wrong way and with the gain turned up slightly too high. Oops. It will sound better in the next one, I prom...

and this is why im not part of a single steam curator group?
you give them the the wrong guys but you many curators sell the keys and we buy them becouse there sheap so its you were al begins if you send key that exspire after 1 mhont ore so then the cant be slold
I finally get it now. I gotta be more careful when buying games from resellers because I actually do want to support developers and their work.
those curator are scum. Pinguin, G2A are scum
Hey there! this video really gives me hope that theres many other people out there as well who care more about making the game and giving it life than making money from the game. As someone who is just starting out on my dream game, i learnt alot from this video! Really loved the soundtracks!
I love watching people cut corners on hobbies that are luxury choices and make bad decisions. Then again creator here steals games and begs for dono to pay his rent, so can you expect quality?
As one of Steam’s biggest curators, this pisses me off so much. I’ve been trying to contact Valve for YEARS to get the bad actors off the platform, and they simply refuse to do anything about it, and as a result are letting the whole concept of curators die. I actually made a whole video about the topic, but honestly this video is inspiring me to make more. I’m so sorry you went through this, I’ve also had someone impersonate my email a couple of years ago and try to scam devs. To say it’s brutal out there for indie devs rn is an understatement.
Massive. Great work
Ive used g2a for a year now and never had a problem, i aint pirating any games id rather just buy the keys, ik im not paying full price for a 5 to 10 year old game 🤷♂️
ruined the vid when u started wearing cat ears
thanks for this vid, super dope concept for game. congrats man, glad you caught that release moment on video i bet it's not really something you can put into words. cheers mate 🍻
The guitar pro distorted guitars brings back so many memories ❤
good job!
Maybe sell Your games on kinguin officially and get all the money? 😅
Would suggest using Keymailer to send out keys. Creators have to make content on accepting keys there.
"i gave away keys to my game to sketchy curators, and they sold them" thats on you bro.
i always forget how much thought process you put into stuff
beta male
the keys that are cheapest on those site are from often-bundled games. I have traded unwanted bundle games to traders for games that I actually want, and the trader goes on to sell my key to sites like kinguin. I get that some of these keys come from exploiting devs like in your case, but there are way more keys coming from legitimate purchases from Humble, Fanatical, etc. Expiring review codes after a month or so is a good idea and would fix this exploitation. When the keys do come from bundles, it does support the devs by making me more willing to buy their game in a bundle, and matching their game with people that want to play it.
I use reselling sites because it's the only way I can gift people some games through steam since steam region locks any purchase from Brazil :') (some games have alternatives, but so many more dont.)
Gronkh says Hi
Thanks for sharing. I used to play in a band, and seeing this game really moved me. The design elements in it left a strong impression on me!
I know ur nephew he is my friend
Looks cool
GOOD JOB
If you haven't already I recommend you brush up on some basic kinematics and dynamics just to get an idea of how things operate and interact with each other.
I smell a criminal enterprise ring.
Very cool! I have found working in a 3d engine when making a 3d game with 2d assets to be much less of a headache than sticking with a 2d engine. idk what you all have in store for the future but hopefully you don't run into too many problems with adding these 3d things to gamemaker.
Hey, thank you! I mostly agree with the fact that using a different engine is a good idea when dealing with 3D, GameMaker is primarily a 2D engine after all. If the game's "3D" were any more complex than it is, I would be using a different engine, but it's been very manageable. That said, I've grown very comfortable using it, and I know how to approach most scenarios as they pop up. I have experience using both Unreal and Unity (mainly from school but also from prototypes I've made in my spare time), but I don't feel as comfortable approaching an ambitious project like Serenity using them, at least not as a solo developer. It's taken a while to lay down the foundation for the game, but now that most of its major components are finished, I don't expect to be running into any severe amount of issues, at least nothing problematic enough to the point where I won't be able to solve it.
Cool stuff! I can't wait to see what cool interactions come next
Thank you! There's more to come soon.
good job man
Looking good!
The world needs more passion developers! Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much! You're too kind.
I hope In the next one your character will have green hair
Hmm... [taking notes]
Yeahhhh unfortunately I don't think the game sold well just because it looks like shit. Looks like some of the blandest gameplay, art direction and story I have ever seen. There's nothing really special about it, thus it didn't sell well.
Good work
Thank you!
Great video! Really inspiring
Thank you very much! That means a lot.
great vid!
Thank you!
I'm making a 2D pixel art game with modern lighting techniques as my final thesis in university and you have no idea how much this video helped and inspired me, thank you so much. You sir have earned yourself a new subscriber.
It warms my heart to know that something I made has inspired someone. Thanks a ton for the support, and good luck on your thesis!
Your evolution has been amazing! I’m stoked to hear more about this game
The red blue hair summary at the end got me, good work! Looking forward to the future updates.
Charming pixel art and a very inspiring video, great work! I'm going to watch the others from your channel while waiting for new ones, because it will certainly give me inspiration to finally finish my own projects. Anyway, wishing all the best for you and your project! ^^
Thanks a ton! There's not much to watch for this game specifically, as you've probably noticed :P But I'm glad you're feeling inspired, and I wish you the best of luck with your own projects!
yes, the lighting adds so much life, looking good, keep it up 💪
Thank you very much! I'll keep on doing my best.
looks good!
Thank you, I'm glad to hear it!
Great work on the lighting. That is beyond my skills and Ive been making games for over twenty years. I look forward to seeing more from this project.
I'm flattered, thank you so much for the kind words. Though, I must say, I had to have a look at your channel after reading your comment, and you definitely have skills I lack as well. Keep up the good work!
I'm glad you are still kicking and trying to make more games! I liked Disharmony a lot and I can't wait another 7 and a half years to play Serenity lmao
Haha, thanks a ton! This one will definitely take a while. Hoping it won't take quite as long as last time though. ;P
