What chassis/engine swap would you do to it?

70% Ceramic 3m Window Tinting on an International Harvester Scout 800a
Переглядів 4432 роки тому
I recently had the windows on my 800a tinted with a 70% ceramic tint to cut down on some heat/uv rays in the cabin. It looks darker in the video, perhaps partly due to the colour grading, but in the real world it's a fairly subtle tint. I still thought it would have come out lighter though! I also recently purchased the DJI RS 3 Pro gimbal and thought I would test it out with some video of the ...

After a camping trip through the Cherokee National Forest with Levi from Old Iron Offroad we went back to his workshop to install a generic Firestone helper airbig kit on the back of my 1970 Scout 800a. I filmed the install on my iPhone with a bad microphone cable so apologies for the audio. Like & subscribe for some more Scout content in the near future! Follow me on Instagram: f...

Congratulations, BTW not to be a stalker but where is the NY to LA Scout video? I have a 1970 800 almost finished. I want to do something like that in it
Awesome would love to see it! I haven't made the NY to LA video yet. Had a lot going on in life but it is something I'd like to get back to. So many great memories 🙂
Nice scout. Too bad it’s in California.
Thank you! Don't believe everything you hear/see. California is just as fine as any other state in the US 👍
Don’t look now but the redcat has the scout 800 1/10 RC crawler for under $225!,
Lets see it without the music.....I want to hear the engines
I sure my '69 Scout.
Amazing ride, man. Nicely done video and photos! Scout on!
Thank you!
Nice video. I regret selling my Scout II.
I have a 67 and just wish my damn windows would work-LOL
What's the 1970 model scout with the 3:26 AM I'm all original one owner good shape worth
No I want it and with qld plates it not far from me to
Great Scout!
Mine had a 304 V8
Same as this one!
I had one just like this. Wish I still had it.
I wish I still had this one!
Very hesitant to see what WV is going to do with the SCOUT name. Its going to be EV so I cringe. Miss my SCOUT II❤
I'm interested to see the design!
My understanding is you cannot chassis swap in Australia with ADR rules. As much as I'd like to for my Scout. Unless something has changed in recent years.
Ah I was wondering about that. Will have to look into it more. Wondering what the people with Fj40/45 bodies on 80 series chassis are doing to get those engineered?
@@shaunmaluga QLD has some of the toughest regs. Yeah I wonder what the FJs are registered as?
Man, what a Beautiful Scout. I had a 1974 Aspen Green Scout II with the AMC 258 Thrifty Inline 6. I had an Offenhauser 4 barrel Manifold with a Holley hooked up.DUI Distributor with a single Chamber Borla. That truck moved. I'm currently restoring a 1979 Jeep Wagoneer with the AMC 360 fully stock. I'm 100% LS Free. If you configure the engine right, it can be a daily driver. What these shows that drop in an LS swap over the weekend don't tell you is that 90% of the right fit is pure fabrication and Frankenstein Parts from various vehicles. I met this guy who had a LS dropped in a 1973 Land Rover 109 and said it ran good for a month before everything started to become loose.
Thank you! I had the original 304 in my 800 in the US and loved it (except the 10mpg). Issue is that you can't really get maintenance parts in Australia so most things have to be imported from the states which equals time and money. Engine swap makes sense to me if I want to tour Australia with it!
Is the bench seat a custom. Or did they come like that
Not sure if it was a dealer option or if they are all aftermarket. Mine came with it and was very original otherwise, 1 owner. I had it recovered by a place in Venice, CA.
Think whatever you put in needs to be american v8 to keep the same feel of what the Scouts eventually became.
Oh man! What a beautiful scout 😍
Thank you! Sad to no longer have it but I picked up a replacement in Australia :)
Love it!!! Maybe I can journey across the pond for a week and turn some wrenches with you on it!!
Make the trip a tax write off! Important International business to attend to! 😂 Would seriously love that. Let’s get planning 👍
Cool man!! Winnie reds as well haha wow! Look forward to watching the journey on this one.
Pre cancer warnings too! 😂 Thanks mate, will be along one but hopefully a good one
That is a neat grille! The top is unique. Might look better with OEM sport top side window grafted in.
I think so too! I do think I’ll try get a proper full top. It’s hard to look at it knowing what it should look like, kind of like an uncanny valley effect 😂
Beautiful Scout! I have a 1969 800A a complete basket case right now. This video REALLY inspires me to get it going.
Oh nice! Do it, you'll have a blast and meet some great people :)
@@shaunmaluga can you give me an idea what that thing is like driving down the highway is it a pleasant ride or is it extremely noisy and rough riding? I’m just curious.
@@Indeewoods that is a tough question! Compared to a new vehicle it is horrible haha. But, for a 50 year old truck, this particular one drove quite well, especially with the new suspension and airbag helper springs on the back. You definitely fell all the bumps and it is noisy. But I would say quite pleasant cruising up to about 50mph. Once you start going over that the wind noise gets quite loud and as you start getting around 70mph the higher revving engine/fan noise adds to that. I always wondered if it was worth adding either a clutch or electrical fan to it, it might have helped very slightly, but I do think the wind noise is the biggest thing. I found 60mph the ideal to sit at on the highway. I did wear earplugs when driving for longer than 20 minutes on the highway, it get's to be a lot. I have been in another scout that was geared very strangely, but meant it was only revving in the 1000's at 60-65mph. It also seemed to have much less wind noise. Not sure if it had better seals but it did have carpeted floors and the pickup top. So many variables. I'm sure the roof rack on mine added some wind noise too.
@@shaunmaluga great info and makes sense. I used to do those enduro races or demolition derby’s and it’s amazing how loud a car is inside when the carpet and head liner is removed. Sounds like I’ll want to make sure I spend some time and money on that.
What wheel and tire are you running? And buy the way that is a sweet ride!
One of the best looking offroaders ever build. Seemed to ne inspired by italian designs of the time. Holds up incredibly well!
They do look great! Not very aerodynamic but great 😅
Love it. I have a ‘66. What are you using as the roof rack?
It's a Front Runner Slimline II, 1425mm(W) X 2166mm(L) with No 4 (170mm) legs
What roof rack is that? I’m looking for one to mount to my 800 for an RTT also. Love your set up.
Thanks mate, replied on your other comment but in case anyone else is looking, Front Runner Slimline II, 1425mm(W) X 2166mm(L) with No4 (170mm) legs 🙂
restore something cool next time
It is
Like my faith in humanity?
@@shaunmaluga yeah nah thats not gunna happen anytime soon
What’re you using for a solution? I’m restoring a 260Z.
Where did u het the set up ? I had a 1966 800 and want to do this ....looks great 👍
Thank you! Just bought most of the individual pieces direct from the suppliers! Front Runner roof rack and storage boxes, Treeline Outdoors rooftop tent, Yakima now own the Road Shower brand and ARB for the awning.
Blue/gray 800...an Aristocrat ...?
Yes sir, that's Bill's of the Minnesota Scout Club 👍
304? Or whatever was the smaller one is. It doesn't sound like a 345.
Yes sir, 304
Oh man....I love it!!! You make me wish i had the extra money to fix mine up! I also have a 70 Scout 800A series. Its a little rough in shap now. I did convert mine to power steering several years ago to save me from getting rubber armed when i off-roaded in her alot. I always wanted to put roll bars in and even got it all measured out to do it and was saving up to do it but when you got a kid, you dont always get to spend it on your hobbies. I ended up selling her to a friend and 8 years later i bought her back from him. I really want to get her back to running good again and would love to have disc brakes instead of drum brakes. That Scout is a beauty tho! And i hauled many a load in it when i went camping! I love Scouts!!
Awesome! Enjoy it as it is and do some little upgrades as you go!
Late as usual, but if I can find parts to get my 67 corn binder road worthy (all I really need is doors) my 1100 step side 2wd 6cylinder 4speed will be at the 2024 event greetings from Texas
Nice, that sounds do-able! Hope you can make it
how did you handle the rust issue?
What rust issue?
@@shaunmaluga As I know it, whenever I look up International Scouts (they're my new fascination) Rust buildup and their susceptibility to it, always comes up - especially from the 70s. Did you guys buy it from a great previous owner? I'm new to the channel so I don't know your history with the car, I jus know Rust is a big issue with Scouts from other youtubers
love it wish it was mine
Could have been!
Great vid! Music, spot on. Love the dog, I miss my lab. Never had the use a leash much, he never let my side.
Sounds like he was a good boy!
That he was, miss him every day. Caved in after 7 years(since he passed) and let the wife get a for her dog. We now have a mini golden doodle. He is a pistol for now, but minds weĺl, at least for me and my step daughter, mom, not yet. He will be a good dog on the boat and camping.❤
U bood won't let me edit this.
Wow! I would love to drive a scout again
Grab one before they get too crazy!
Amazing content!!
Thank you!
Love the rig! I have a 70 as well with the 6 cylinder 232 engine I'm trying to slowly put back together myself. Inspirational.
Sounds awesome! Looking forward to seeing the result
What did it end up going for. How many 232s are around. Not familiar with the sixs. Straight or v?? I just got a 66 with a 196 4 speed, but it needs gone through. If a six isn't that much of a hassle to put in, why not??
Yes ❤
Yes! Full video
👊👊
idk bruh why you asking me
How do you only have 288 subs?!
Your channel reminds me a little of Go4x4.
Haha thank you! I guess I’m relatively new to UA-cam. The more comments, likes, subscribes and shares the more it will get out to people so thank you!
@@shaunmaluga Likewise, I’ve only got 49 subscribers so far. 😆
@@JeepinDownUnder 50! Will give them a watch 👊👊👊
LOVE THIS! Reminds me back when I drove an old 1965 Chevy Impala SS. Nothing like truly manually operating a vehicle. Nothing compares. I love all the creeks and bumps.
Awesome, yes all the noises! That squeak in the back can be taken care of though 😅
Well done, thank you for sharing with us.
Thanks for watching!
Loved the video, thanks for sharing. Happy Trails.
Thank you! This years Harvesters in the Holler is coming up!
Yes! Always, yes👍
True Sport/Utility Vehicle! Obviously used as intended by the original manufacturer Fantastic detail 😎👍
Thank you, so capable for something built 53 years ago!
Where did you get the floor mats?
They are Coco Mats! They are custom made to fit, you can get a kit sent out to you with samples and paper to draw your full size template. Ship it back and they make them to size. Expensive for floor mats but I love the look of them.
