Interesting to see some of the pushback on this. As a father, I try to use that perspective when thinking about God. I love having quiet time with my sons. Just sitting and laying outside, inside, wherever is always so peaceful. I'm sure our heavenly Father enjoys this too.

God tends to work in more spectacular ways in areas that don't have the written word and or have never been exposed to the gospel.

Tim, when I listen to you speaking to us about Jesus, THAT is when adoration falls on me, and overwhelms me, like that thing we call glory.....I feel as if I am wearing an Invisible cloak of adoration.

Check out the Bible Project about Humans / Trees Humans Are ... Trees? (refers to comment on Jesus healing the blind man) The idea that humans are like trees might seem strange to us until we see how the Hebrew Bible connects them with the same key words, images, and scenes. Humans and trees are found together at most of the hinge points in the biblical story. Listen in as Tim and Jon discuss these parallels in the Bible.

Thank you four so much for a wonderful session. My wife died just under 2 1/2 years ago and as you might expect my spirtiual life has gone off center; I pray several times a day (often in unusual places such as walking her dog), don't read the scriptures enough or attend enough on Sunday (long story) but I know that a good work has been done in me and I know I could never abandon my oldest friend no matter how many more zingers I have ahead. Saturday would have been our 40th anniversary so I prayed a lot that day and went to the graveside with flowers though I couldn't bear to stay long .... but prayed in the car the whole way home. In my university days I was exposed to a lot of prayer traditions so have tried a lot but like your guests, I know when to stick to the tried and true and when I'm mostly in awe.

I kept pr for my friend's friend who has cancer stadium 4, and one day my friend showed up in my kitchen sat on the table at the front of me, he flew from London! And he said Joseph healed! Thank you so much for your persistent prayers. I love to hear how Pete said in the last of conversation that we have Jesus who has been suffering, die on the cross, and He rose again on the third day. It's prove that yes! we still can be suffer but also we have hope to be healed. Because He is risen!

Read Psalm 22, the sense Jesus had of the Fathers absence, He knows to be merely temptation. Verse 24, “4 For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from him; But when he cried to Him for help, He heard.” The whole prayer/chapter, pointed to as Jesus quotes the first verse , is a lesson on how to work through trials, remembering Gods faithfulness, nearness and purpose. God did not abandon or despise Christ on the cross nor will he abandon us as we walk either him no matter how it feels.

Sorry, but again, no Pete, absolutely not where near the beginning you quoted someone who said when Jesus was on the cross and said My God My God why have you forsaken me, that Jesus became the ultimate atheist. Absolutely not! Jesus was crying out to the God who He knew heard Him! And if I was in that kind of excruciating pain and realized God had to turn His face from me, wouldn't I cry out the same? Jesus not for a moment ever doubted God! I know I'm not telling you anything you don't already know, how in the world could I possibly do that? But I could not let that statement go unchallenged.

This is full of beautiful wisdom, thoroughly enjoyed it! The only thing I'd say is that I heard marriage mentioned a few times which is totally fine and makes complete sense in the context and nuances of the discussion but for those of us who are single, it can make us feel a little isolated as we can't relate to that. But overall, lovely conversation.

As someone who is both peaceful and always in motion, sitting still is so very hard for. So.much so that it almost rises to a level of suffering (as strange as that is) So the thoughts expressed here really minister to me, that im not alone in my restlessness and quest for stillness before God. Thank you!!

Wow this made me think. I realized now after watching you talk about different kinds of prayer for half an hour. That my morning walks to work are in a way a prayer. I also realized that when I presently listen to the birds chirping and animals in my walk I have a heightened feeling of Gods presence around me, this always make me smile and makes me feel good and relaxed.

I've always felt like I've had to talk and talk when praying. Learning to be silent is hard for me. Shaking off "religion " and getting into a real relationship with Jesus is difficult at times, for me. This study has been eye opening for me.

So I thought I was pretty smart and spiritually mature until I watched these Christian intellectuals talk😂. I can appreciate the growth my mind had to take just to understand the vocabulary 😮. At the end I realized that we are all different, have different relationships with God and maturity levels. I love Christine and her transparency ❤. I can relate to her best, but hearing all these other men speak of their prayer journeys was motivating and humbling and reassuring as well. I love the diversity of the Body.😊

I'd love to see how worship through song comes into play with intimacy. For me I find I transcend to a blissful paradise through sweet song to the lord in addition to prayer through song. I haven't heard it mentioned yet but I think that is one portal to paradise for those who have the gift!

I've never heard of "The Examine." Chat GPT says: "The Examen" is a method of prayer and introspection developed by St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuit order. It's a technique found in his Spiritual Exercises and is intended to help individuals reflect on their recent experiences and discern God's presence in their lives. Typically practiced at least once daily, the Examen involves reviewing the day's events to identify moments of consolation (where one felt closer to God) and desolation (where one felt further from God). The process of the Examen typically involves several steps: 1. **Gratitude**: Begin by giving thanks to God for the blessings of the day, acknowledging and appreciating the good. 2. **Petition**: Ask God for the grace to understand and interpret the day's events. 3. **Review**: Reflect on the events of the day, identifying where you have and have not found God's presence. 4. **Forgiveness**: Seek forgiveness for any faults or sins and ask for God's mercy. 5. **Renewal**: Look forward to the next day with a resolution to improve based on the insights gained. This practice encourages a deep sense of discernment and awareness, helping individuals recognize God's guidance in their everyday lives.
