Thank you. New hobby for me and I am wondering of this Quadrajet is the correct carb for my "77 IH Scout. I am fairly sure it is not the stock carb because 750 seems like alo tof carb for a 345. Would you recommend I follow your videos an drebuild or purchase different carb? It seems alot of Scout guys get the Edlebrock AVS2. Thank you from Colorado.

I've been doing this method for years! It works good. Except I do not use Simple Green. I use Tide laundry detergent and if there is some hard spots I will use Shout on the spots. Works great!

Chevy trucks in the 80' had the 800. My 85 c20 is 17080213, i have 6 or 7 of them for spares and parts, same with my 72 c20 chevy 7042208. I have many dealer manuals, tune up books and 1985 gm rochester new product book that lists all the numbers. I have been told, by someone that wrote a book that my gm dealer books are wrong, and that was only made in 78-79. Lol, holy cow. 800 cfm carbs are all over the place on gm trucks still driving around.

Hey Bud thanks for the info I've worked on quadrajets for about 45 years but I really like how you explain it on UA-cam. I had some ask me the other day why his secondarys wasn't opening and I told him it had to be with the choak it has to be all the way open for you secondarys to open. Thanks for your video.

(I have a 7043250 ra 1223) qjet every place I look at all these videos and see they are all 750cfm or 800cfm. But called holley today for a replacement holley double pumper and they said a 600cfm is recommended for my olds 455 engine. Don't want to rob my car of hp if it needs. Let me know your thoughts thanks

Great video. I was working on similar/identical carb. 800 cfm from caddie. I have another metering rod next to the pair of primary rods you inserted. What is my extra metering rod for?? How does yours work without it?? Could I remove mine?

Vavoline VR1 20w50 is also high zinc. It's also high in molybdenum and phosphorus and has a long racing history. Also like Mobil 15W50 which is also high in ZDDP.

for offroad race car cv joints, i was told to use the 101 is that what you recommend? and what would you recommend for wheel bearing on same race car? on the rear it uses the thin cone bearings (timken LL225749 & LL420549) thanks in advance

The primary choke pull off has a dual purpose. 1 to open choke after start up so engine doesn’t run too rich while choke is warming up. 2 the pull off has a metered orifice that controls the secondary opening rate. As the top plate secondary air valve opens its uncovers and pulls fuel out of secondary accelerator orifices,(tiny holes just above the air valves) and aides in smooth transition into 4 barrels. The air valve spring controls opening rate. Bogs are caused by these controls not being used or properly adjusted. When everything is properly set transition is smooth and strong. There also is metering rod height (hanger holes). Properly tuned quads shouldn’t bog unless during low RPM, high gear deep throttle jabs. Secondary jets should measure .136 and if they measure .140 or higher they are worn and will run rich and bog. Get a Quadrajet book by Doug Roe and learn how to tune. Most modifications aren’t needed for smooth street driving, just jetting and stock adjustments as outlined in rebuild sheet.

My issue with my 750 is idle, just cant get it down under 1100 rpm... everything moves smoothly, not sure if its my accelerator pump rod, seems like it might be stopping it from moving further down to touch the idle screw

I have a Qjet 750 just like the one you showed. When I increase the throttle gently the engine tries to shut down but if I close the choke plate with my hand the engine stays on. its acceleration. If I accelerate quickly to full throttle it does so but then it tries to shut down, as if it won't suck gasoline.

I really like both the quadrajet and the thermoquad.

Back about 72’ I had 68 SS Camaro L78 396 my uncle and I overhauled but the secondaries didn’t open and did the quadrajet also but as I recall there was a piece broken on top that was called an eccentric cam that allowed front and back to and it took care of it.does that sound right to you it’s been a long time ago

Great video! If the secondary is not working that will make for gas saving? I know that You said this would just let the carburator work at 30 percent capacity, but benyond that will help to gas saving. I wanna save gas using this carb.

Thanks for the video. Can the throttle plate bushings be replaced? (If they have them?) My idle is erratic, and I had to install a stronger return spring.

This is about the 2nd or 3rd comment I've ever left, but maybe it will help somebody in the future. i recently went through the no secondary engagement thing on an M4ME Quadrajet and found something I haven't noticed anyone else bring up yet. Turned out that the fibre base gasket had swollen up so badly the holes became smaller than the secondary butterflies. This caused them to hang up and not fully open beyond a crack, and sometimes get stuck in that position. Fun. Not sure if this particular carb had something sprayed on/in it that shouldn't have been, but at least now I know it can happen. Might not be common, but have a look there if the usual problems don't seem to present themselves, and your carb/engine is still a complete turd.

We just fixed mine yesterday by replacing the transmission vaccum modulator on a 1989 hydromatic 400 Chevy. $16.00 , it took 15 minutes. Now the tranny kicks down perfect and the secondaries open for the famous roar. Try it first...you'll like it. 💣

I picked up a 800cfm model for my mild 350sb. A bit of tuning and modification, and its a perfect carb. No bog or flat spots, great economy, and 400hp on the dyno with perfect AF across the range. I'll never use a Holley again.

My uncle used to import oils from Swepco back in 90s and I remember the same behavior of gear oil. Their greece were also great. Reminds me of a lot of memories. Thanks
