Hello, Does this set up 'remember' your settings (location & size etc) when you shut down the macbook?

I'm still running Monterey on my M2 Macbook, because I'm concerned my version of FileMaker Pro will not run on the latest OS, and there are other apps that may need upgrading too, and the combined cost could be very expensive indeed. I think the cost of upgrading apps maybe one of the main reasons many are hesitant about upgrading the OS.

11:04 Sonoma clearly has some issue. My System Data is over 1TB, every time I delete a file it just gets added to system data and no space is freed up.

doesn't help in 2024, every file I delete just added to the System Data. I'm up to 657GB, and both libraries only add ups to 200GB

Thanks for the tip, but it seems to me a fail in MacOS does not offer this option Length in all folders, unlike Windows Explorer.

This is probably a bit too much trouble...BUT.....you can always install Mac OS on an external hard drive (or SSD). Once you have the OS running on the external media, you can then take ownership of any file or folder on the main drive inside your machine. You can change permissions, icons, names, locations, etc, for anything. In this case, you would change the permissions for the Applications folder, and also the Utillities folder. Right click on the folder and click "info". Go to 'Permissions' at the bottom, change "everyone" from "Read Only" to "Read and Write". Now you can change the icons however you want. Just don't forget; when you are done, you should probably set the permissions back to the way they were; change 'everyone' back to 'Read Only'. OR you could find "Revert Changes", and click on that to complete this trick. Boot to your main internal drive, and done. By the way, this technique also applies to Windows and Linux operating systems as well. ~ Paul

The CleanMyMac did not work to free up any space on my MacBook Air. My storage was showing full with only apps. However, when I looked at the apps storage it did not add up to the app storage space indicated through settings. I did not know that the Library folder existed until your video. When you arrived to the part where you said that deleting Application Support will not mess up anything, I deleted it all. I went from having no storage on my MacBook Air and showing that it was all taken up by Apps alone, to having 184.5 GB of storage. There is no discussions found on the Apple website in technical support with any of this information. I have been trying to figure this issue out for weeks. Thank you!

i don't get why it can't remember default size for new folders. annoying the new folders have such a tiny size when you are using a large screen

I've go an iMac. I've been putting it to sleep for years. A couple of weeks ago it just started waking randomly. Searched all sorts of answers on Google but haven't been able to fix. Any ideas? It doesn't have the same settings as the laptop.

It’s amazing that I just finally felt like I matured by throwing away the bin of boxes for all of my expensive electronics like cameras, macbook, ipad, phone, etc. I held the apple stickers in my hand and thought “it would be funny if these were worth something.” Right before binning them two days ago. Then UA-cam puts this on my feed. What’s also fitting is I binned a bunch of old cables from my “just in case box o’ cables.” Only to find out the following week I needed one of those cables. The universe is cruel.

When I was in eighth grade (1983-84), I stuck a rainbow Apple Computer sticker on the inside of my locker. It remained there until the school was torn down a few years ago.

It won’t let me open any app when I restart it it says you need an administrator’s password and username when I put the right username and password in it says valid username I try again it doesn’t work if.

I have a cupboard full of them going back years. I've _never_ had any reason to use them. Ever. So, no, I won't miss them, but maybe they will become some kind of weird currency in the dystopian future.

Is this procedure usable for installed apps as well so that when getting a new MacBook it will simply "paste" all apps installed in the previous machine (besides files) ?

No testing under load, means no real comparison. Because the issue with 30 and 35w chargers is that if you do some work on the laptop while charging, or simply have the brightness set to 80% or higher, then it would charge painfully slow (think 25w is being consumed by the soc and screen, which means 35-25 only 10w reaching the battery). Also any power brick is basically a power supply, and working at 100% shortens its lifespan. Which is why 96-140w bricks are really good, but they are bulky because apple still doesnt use Gallium Nitride tech. Maybe in 2025 we would see a new "redesigned" charger lineup based on gan.
