Solo riding TET Romania | Leaving home (E1 2024)
This series of episodes is about my experience while motorcycle riding the Trans Euro Trails (TET) in Romania, solo, with a minimalist luggage setup.
I previously did the Southern Carpathian mountains segment and I am now attempting to do the Eastern and Northern segments.
In this episode, we're leaving Bucharest, hitting the trails and having a bit of fun. There's some whining about the mud (my rear tire is a 16K km old Mitas E07+) and some choices about forbidden access roads. By then end we will have reached Covasna. This video spans 2 days, one of riding and one of exploring Covasna.
I'm doing it all on a light dual-sport (my 2018 Honda CRF 250L) and I have a decent amount of riding experience, but there won't be any hardcore enduro moments here. This is something many people can attempt if they are so inclined, with the proper precautions and the proper setup.

This has been the European tour of Kitty and Ada, through Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and back home to Romania. A total of 5000 km in about 30 days. In this episode, we perform a questionable and sketchy fix on the Grom's motorcycle chain. Enough to last us a few more kilometers. We also reflect on our experiences during this trip. While riding through northern Italy, I try to explain the ABC cognitive-behavioral model. Also known as ABCDEF, initially a part of Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, pioneered by Albert Ellis. This model is something that can be applied in day to day life to challenge irrational/dysfunctional thoughts that generate negative emotions. It can also be used while riding.

Daca treci pe langa Cluj, da un mesaj si hai la o poveste!
Ai zis cumva 16K km old Mitas E07+? Sau care-i planul?
Why one needs ABS on a dry asphalt? Daua-n belea.
That's a good question. Personally, maybe I don't *need* it, but I am used to it and feel uncomfortable without it.
Good luck
Thank you! Love your line art videos! ;)
@@kitty.mototor thank you :)
Cool video! CRF250L owner from Bucharest here. Planning to ride the TET as well, so thanks for sharing your experience. Hope to meet you on the trails.

What are the measurements of those blocks u put the bike on?
Those are 8 x 8 cm beams. One side of the L is 24.5 cm, the other is 17.5. The smaller side sits on the ground.
That is one amazing apartment! Hate to see what they charge for a night, but probably well worth it!
They charged 65 EUR per night back then. Which was close to the average in Italy in July, and July is one of those holiday months. So not cheap, but not an arm and a leg either :)
do you have a cite you can buy them from directly
I don't, sorry. I'd look up "Honda Grom MSX125 CLUTCH OEM Parts Diagram" if you're looking for Honda parts and make note of what you need, likely: clutch friction discs, clutch plates, clutch springs. You may need the oil filter and engine case gaskets as well. Hope this helps.
I didn't know they had enough power to do so. My KLX250 doesn't/
Just barely. But now I know it CAN be done :)
Why not drill/tap a hole in the swing arm to install a zerk fitting & be able to grease it without disassembly?
Because I didn't know that was an option. I looked it up, but that looks like it requires a skill level above mine, honestly :) Doing this every 2 years or so is not that bad. I also get to inspect all of those bolts and bearing needles visually, so that's a plus, I guess.
Fantastic
Love you two! Thank you for taking us on your journey...something I wish I could do....but age has its drawbacks...so I really appreciate the travels, even with its up and downs. Rode a bike 50 odd years ago, but it is not safe in this country US....The country is beautiful. Waiting for your next journey, and rest up in the mean time...
This is the kind of comment that motivates us to put more content out there. I am so happy you enjoyed this series. I think I know what you mean about age. You know what’s best for you. Myself, if yhe time came when I couldn’t ride 2 wheels anymore, I guess I would consider a trike, a quad, a bike with a sidecar or other options. Anything to feel the wind in my hair (wink). But then again, knowing when to stop is pretty damn valuable knowledge as well :)
Hello ,, Your video is very good.. But there is a problem with your video.. Your video has less views. Because not perfectly your videos are SEO.
how much time did it take you Cristi to finish this movie, with writing the script, voice over, cutting and editing, etc? The movie looks very professional.
You're too kind! Thank you! It takes me on average about 10-15 actual hours per video. Sometimes a lot more, usually not less than 10. But it used to take me 50, so I'm getting better at this :)

Greetings! I have been looking for your next video. And here you are. Just in time.
Thank you for saying that! This is a more experimental video: short and without narration, 3 days of chilling compiled into a couple of minutes. Hope you enjoyed the format!
Great video!
Thank you so much!
I've always used anti-seize on all of my bikes axels for years, never had any problems. The service manual for a grom mentions grease, other manufacturers call for anti seize. Either way, dont put em back dry.
I'll be honest, I've never looked at anti-sieze products (and if I did, I didn't know they were "anti sieze"). Looking at their general description, yeah, it sounds like they would work, even though it looks like they're designed for more tight or clamped assemblies. They seem to share a lot of their properties with grease so, yeah, maybe they're a good alternative. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Super vlog and new sub. Videos are so sharp...which cam do you use for vlogs? Greets from Croatia...
Thank you so much, that means a lot! Helmet cam is a Sony FDR X300 and others are taken with an iPhone 12 mini (usually in wide mode). Both shot in 4K. On the motorbike there are 2 cameras, front and rear, a Thinkware M1 set that shoots in 1080p. I am thinking of upgrading to a DJI Action 4 soon, though.
Fantastic clear easy to follow video well done
Thank you! That means a lot, glad it helped!
Hi, I think I will buy crf250 rally this week and I am little worried about ergonomics. How tall are you? I am 187cm and 110kg, so suspension update is must and bar risers as well. This little beast looks awesome so I hope that it will be fit for me.
For a big boy like you, the stock suspension on my CRF will be pretty soft. It goes down a lot when I sit on it. A lot of people comment that it's too soft, I find it just fine, but I weighed between 72 and 80 kg while riding it. I would describe the feel as "elastic". If you plan to put any luggage on it, I also think you would benefit from a suspension upgrade (but cannot recommend anything in particular). As far as the bar risers go, hmm, yeah. I am 181 cm tall and the bike feels comfortable to me, but I do wish the position was slightly more upright when I'm standing on the pegs. I feel like I'm leaning too much on the bars. I've never ridden the rally version, I suspect the geometry is quite similar, but yeah, I think you would benefit from those upgrades. Other than that, I really like the bike and it seems to do everything I want: - decent on highways (but not recommended for many hours) - very capable off road (but not a lot of power available) - light (so great to pick up or carry minimal luggage with it) - flexible (I did TET segments but I also commute on it in a crowded city) Hope this helps with your decision! I've never regretted mine :)
@@kitty.mototor Thanks for your time and effort for reply and your videos, they are great, keep making them please. I will go tomorrow and test it, but I think I am already in love with that thing :)
Nice accommodation in Brindisi! How did you find it?
Yeah, we loved it too! We found it on booking, I think it was called Handy apartments
Dude you doing the clutch ! Why are u at the break and radiator
Good question! It's supposed to show people who are doing this for the first time the entire process. The brake pedal and the radiator fiddling are part of that process. I removed the break pedal because you can't easily take the engine cover off with it in the way. And the radiator is in the video because you have the water pump on the same engine cover and you need to remove all the coolant from the radiator as well. At least I know of no other way to get to the clutch discs. Hope this helps!
No rear axle diagram, only front?
You can look up "grom rear wheel axle diagram", there should be plenty of photos out there. I personally take a picture before. Helps me put things back in the right order. Definitely beats a mental picture. :)

"You find the best roads by taking a wrong turn". I like those small and steep mountain roads.
I enjoy them myself, I just have to think of Ada from time to time. Like, is she still back there or is this too steep for the Grom? :) But in general, yeah, narrow, steep mountain roads are awesome. And getting lost is sometimes recommended as well
Lake Aoos is absolutely beautiful. Been there three years ago and enjoyed the silence so much. Really nice trip you're on! Best way to spend some time.

Hello, Biker! Wonderful clip! Would it be OK if we used it in a youtube video we're making and maybe share it on our social media? We'll credit you in the video and all descriptions. Thank you! :)
You can do that, yes
When or how often do you need to do this? How many miles are on your grom?
I think you're supposed to apply a thin layer of grease every time you remove the wheels. In my case, I did it twice in 25000 km (15K miles). The first time I did it, the axles were bone dry.
