The pilot was probably getting a bj and then came when he felt the touch down then noticing that he is at the wrong airport and took off. That's my report now back to you Tyler.

it's a textbook manuever. pilots are always on standy during sketchy landings to make another attempt. in training, we call it "touch and go's." though not usually exercised in the commercial industry, fighter pilots such as those on air craft carriers use this technique daily.

I really need to check what part of Germany Hamburg is in before commenting. Mea culpa. I still find it hard to believe that that risk was worth taking or had to be taken. He basically nearly crashes, that's why we're all watching it. To me, nearly crashing says there's no other option. That means there's nowhere to land for 400 miles. If that's the case, then I salute him and his balls. I think it's Leeds airport (UK) that has a real problem with crosswinds. Just a matter of time...

@dispatcher7007 - So you know the incident well? Doubt it, it was posted 4 years ago. Planes do not habitually "run out of fuel" - there are regulations about running dry and it is simply not done in case you need to divert. Given the mountainous geography of Northern Germany, I would be surprised if there wasn't an area that was not affected by the weather. Mountains keep weather local - I live in a micro climate myself. 5 miles north has very different weather.

@Polydemic; couldn't agree more, M8, my first jet instuctor had a favourite saying that went "there are many old pilots, and many bold pilots; however there are very few old, bold pilots". This attempt at a landing was clearly outside limits - the man should have diverted.

@manickalways surface area. planes aren't very dense, so for their size, their light. you know, so that they can fly. wings and tail fins aren't something that people have either, but next time it's windy, go outside holding a big piece of cardboard wind will push you.
