The Hazelnuts in New Orleans
The Hazelnuts flew into a threatening hurricane to make New Orleans part of their 2017 US tour. While the storm cancelled some of their gigs, they performed at the New Orleans Jewish Community Center on October 8, 2017. Performing the Boswell Sisters radio theme song, Shout Sister Shout, less than a mile away from where the Boswell Sisters grew up.

Although her career started in the 20s, Connee Boswell embraced rock and roll as an evolution of the New Orleans music she came from. This 1955 recording is in the rockabilly style that Carl Perkins, Bill Haley, Wanda Jackson and Elvis Presley were wowing the world with. Although Connee had the chops, the world of entertainment seemed unable to embrace the notion of a 40-something rocker in a w...

Ella Credits Connie Boswell - This CBS clip from 1996 honored Ella Fitzgerald at the time of her passing. In the clip, Ella tells how when she sang at the Apollo for the first time she sang like Miss Connie Boswell. It is one of many such times she had honored Connie Boswell and the Boswell Sisters as her influence. It is also a beautiful tribute to one of America's great voices.

A rare a capella performance by the Boswell Sisters, from their 1930 Continental Broadcast radio series number 3111. Their amazing harmonies are still in the development stage, but are wonderfully evident in this homage to the barber shop tradition of their parents, Aunt Matt and Uncle Charlie.

Love the Boswell sisters. Especially during their 1930s sessions. Connie was great. Put the Andrew Sisters to shame, no comparison.

No sister aingin' acts sing to cows nowadays...what wrong with popular music today?!
I just love the Bozzies!!
So much better than the Andrews Sisters!
Wow, I never saw film of them singing! I loved them since I heard a song on a compilation of thirties singers.
Awesomeness! A truly talented singer!
6:05 Milk Milk song
Connie - they don't make 'em like her anymore. And Jack sounds so young on this broadcast.
1930 : I love you Boswell 😘 1942 : ❤️❤️❤️ 1958 : 😏 2007 : ... 2009 : Bored...... 😒😒😒 2012 : 🙄 2016 : 😐 2018 : 🤨 2020 : Cartoon Cat............ 😳😳😳
After 1955, it was over! All the music died and all we heard were screamers, pig callers and instrument bashers!!
They were and are totally awesome. Love that sleepy time down south.
Real live wires these 3 ... Such gorgeous harmonies ... Playful & sexy they really swing ... A great tradition followed by the Stafford Sisters & into the 50's by the Chordettes ' Sandman ' ... Angelic voices all.
The first song is "Nights When I Am Lonely", recorded 3/25/1925, written by Martha Boswell.
Wonderful. I've loved The Boswell Sisters for thirty years. No one ever says this, but Connee had an extremely sexy look, not trampy, but extraordinarily attractive. And that voice! I've never read this anywhere, but my impression is that if she hadn't been a paraplegic, she'd have been a much bigger star than she was. A mobile Connee, whether she could have acted or not, would have been a great movie star.
i also have thought about how attractive they were!...Especially Connie!...Not fair to the competition...and as far as I know, not any scandalous behavior going on--however, you gotta think that, by hanging around all those free-wheeling Jazz dudes back in the day...they may have had a few adventures, here and there!...I hope they did!
@@curbozerboomer1773, on UA-cam you can find a TV interview Connee did in 1963 on some local talk show somewhere. It's fascinating.
She’s a great star without the movies. Go Connie!
Their voices definitely matured since their first recordings. Love this old timey music! 🎶🎶
Thankyou I love them not really listened to them till recently, fantastic
Turns out she was also a dog trainer
Grande Connee Boswel!!maravillosa mujer y artista!!gracias!!
Thanks so much
Sing you sinners
These ladies were definitely ahead of their time. I discovered them a couple of years ago listening to a local radio station that plays alot of '30s and '40s music. Love their up tempo jazzy harmonizing style
Happy music is what I needed right now - thanks to Bozzies!!!
I love the way they pick up the pace, slow it down and play with timing. Like at 10.30. full of surprises. And their sound! Just oozes 1930’s beauty.
I noted that it was already mentioned that this SUPER AWESOME recording was done acapella!
I have to post a photo of My AWESOME Grandma, Hilda Mae Benefield, Hacker! It was taken in 1926 and She (but with somewhat lighter hair) looks EXACTLLY Like connie at 1:33 on the right holding the Sax! Same Facial expressions and all! I shown My Mom this! And She said "How did I get a photo of Your Grandma on the computer?! I am AMAZED!
Note! NO INSTRUMENTS! Who Needed them with these AWESOME Voices!
They made a number of these AWESOME Records for OKeh Records in 1929- 1930 period! I LOVE this!
Hi, hoopjnky. this is actually meaningful video. thanks. :)
Hang on sloopy :-)
Thank for this !!
slep sloop )))))
Oscar Sturgess ))))
I haven't heard this one. Love the Boswell sisters. Gotta go to confession!
Very few recordings of this outside of Glen Miller's.
It's Glenn, by the way. Interestingly there is a recording from 1939 by Glen (sic!) Gray, and one by Jack Hylton, also from 1939.
Wow! Thank you.
what year is this please poss 1950 or so
mrblindfreddy9999 America Calling, sponsored by the Greek War Relief, was broadcast February 8, 1941 on CBS, NBC, independent stations and all of Europe
Who is ACTUALLY playing the piano? I don't think it's the woman you see on screen. Sounds like Teddy Wilson.
Still in 2018
This just makes me grin and pat my foot.
I just love them so very much!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you. A lovely contribution to the Boswell story and archives
The Boswell Sisters, for those who are unfamiliar with them, were just great. Not only were their harmonies incredibly tight, but they played with meter a lot, and did surprising arrangements, using the best jazz musicians from the early to mid-30's Connee is the only one who stuck with music after they broke up. The Andrews Sisters took their style to the bank, but it's the Boswell Sisters whose music holds up.
спасибо, никогда такой красоты не слышал
