Everything Has Changed
I wrote this song for Christmas, 2024.
I was thinking about all we don't know and realized that in a way, we know very little. Yet, God has allowed us to know Him. He came to dwell among us as a human, beginning His life on earth as a baby born in a manger.
Merry Christmas!

This is a song I wrote a number of years ago. The video has the lyrics included and provides some commentary on the song's message. Live instruments for this video are my Martin D28 and Alexander 103 French horn. Bass and percussion are virtual instruments by Native Instruments.
While The Harp Is Playing

This song is based on an Old Testament story. In 2 kings 3, there’s a powerful account of God’s miraculous provision. The kings of Israel, Judah and Edom were on a military campaign to invade Moab and decided on a route through the desert to mount their attack. Unfortunately after marching seven days they were out of water and in a very desperate predicament. Elisha was summoned and requested t...
Noise of War Orchestrated

This is a song mainly about spiritual warfare inspired by the story of Aaron and Hur holding up the arms of Moses during an Old Testament battle. I have another recording of the song on this channel, where I am singing and accompanying myself on piano. My son Jakin Ivey orchestrated the song for me since then, and created an accompaniment track very much better than anything I could come close ...
With Wings As Eagles
Переглядів 29Рік тому
I wrote this song around 40 years ago. The song is based on Isaiah 40:31, an Old Testament verse of the Bible which is beloved by many. My mother indeed loved this verse, and eagles as well. I think of this as her song. She has been with the Lord now for years, but I don’t think I ever see an eagle, or read Isaiah 40:31without thinking about her. With Wings As Eagles James T. Ivey (mid 1980s) V...

I actually had a dream where I heard something like this song. It took me a while to put together words and music that captured the impact of the dream. This song is what I came up with. I'm not sure I use the word "destiny" like it is typically used. To me it's not some mysterious workings of the universe. I see God alone as the One Who holds our future and purpose. We were doomed because of s...
Father Where's The Thunder (lyrics in comments)

I wrote this song almost 40 years ago, as far as I can recall. We decided to sing/play it for homecoming this year. I have to thank my wife Shereen for the improvised piano arrangement. So thankful for her! Father Where’s the Thunder JT Ivey v1 The other night I raised my eyes to a darkening sky I prayed a sad and lonely prayer, expecting no reply I had been there before, talking to this silent...
Like Rain (words below)

I have the words to the poem below. I think I’ll forego saying much about it by way of introduction. It’s not really meant to paint any particularly clear picture. Like Rain 9/2023 When the rain falls softly It makes no sound at all Seeping through the atmosphere I feel it on my face and hands I hear it in a hushed sound It is diffuse without frequency. Walking into the freshening air Of mornin...
Noise of War (lyrics below)

I put the lyrics to this song below. This is a song about a spiritual war. One I believe that is on-going. It’s also about life. As we walk through times of great difficulty - even as the battle rages on - I take some comfort in recalling the story of Moses, in Ex 17. He was positioned on a mountain, holding his hands up while Joshua fought in the valley below. Victory depended on Moses’ raised...
Never Bleed

This poem is a little different for me. It is a sort of fanciful story in a rhyming style. It is meant to demonstrate some themes of the gospel message from an unusual point of view. The subtitles turned out pretty good. I used even' for "evening" in a couple places where it came out just "even"... Little things like that, but I think it will help a lot since my reading voice is difficult to un...
Wounds of Eternity

Like many poems I write, this one started with just a few thoughts and grew as I wrote. I’m in constant awe of nature - especially mountains, rivers, and glaciers. Often the imagery of Biblical themes mixes with that of nature in my mind. Anyway, I guess that’s something like where these words come from. Of course, I also have Ps 19:1-4 in mind almost constantly. Wounds of Eternity Somehow we a...
Three Reflections

Here are three poems of mine from a few years ago to quite a few years ago. In the recording I say the poem names after the readings. Perception: Pokes a little fun at our constant notion that we have achieved a satisfactory knowledge of everything by our own observations and abilities to formulate meaningful explanations. The train of thought is continued to ask, “what if”? and to provide what...
The High Stream

I saw a stream one day while driving. It seemed to have come a long way. I got to thinking about where it may have begun and kind of missing the beginnings of small streams I've seen in the high mountains. I wrote this a few days later. The High Stream James T Ivey, 2/2023 Are you the high stream The small and tenuous voice Conversing with thin air And wisps of clouds Cold and clear water Seepi...
A Remembrance of Spring

I wrote this poem a little while back after a walk around a lake with my wife. Something in the wind got me remembering the spring times I lived up north as a kid. A Remembrance of Spring James Ivey, 2/2023 Yesterday walking near a lake The stout wind brought a remembrance of spring to my senses It was the earliest of springs Where death is as present as life And yet life has its pervasive and ...
FlyingLikeTheClouds

Reading from Isaiah one day, I was just struck by the beauty of the words. This song to me is about hope. Hope found in returning to God and also in knowing that He holds the future in His capable hands. I'm playing here on a Martin D28 Flying Like the Clouds Is. 60: 8-9, 16, 18, 20 JT Ivey verse 1 Who are theses flying like the clouds, like doves returning on the wing At the cool of evening? L...
