Wild Parrots of Agoura Hills CA, conures
I have had 3 Nanday Conures. You'll never find a more loyal & loving companion. They are almost perfect.
I like your bird feeder. Where do you get it? These wild parrots come to our apple tree
All birds should be free! Nandays are awesome--they are extremely flock oriented--they don't spend much time with other types of parrots, whereas most parrots mingle. They are super smart and inquisitive. Sadly, because they have extremely loud squawks and are quite vocal, they fill the rescues, and tragically, most rescues are hoarders or bird brokers, and the birds live in horrendous conditions. I myself have taken in two Nandays. One had been hoarded in a so-called rescue--a garage full of vermin and filth. She was plucked, riddled with parasites, had a badly broken wing, crushed ribs and a fracture skull. She was AMAZING! A huge personality, and so loving! She had ongoing veterinary care, and was on pain meds and calcium, but she only lived 13 months after I got her. She broke my heart when she died/ Her life after she met me was so short! She'd deserved to live decades! I have another Nanday. She was sold unweaned, and nearly died because she'd been way underfed. I adore her. My Nanday is actually fairly quiet. She has lots of stimuli: She goes out with me; and has lots of playgyms, swings, toys, etc. She only goes in her cage at bedtime. Nandays are awesome.
I see them everyday here in the San Fernando Valley. Used to see flocks down at the Getty Villa. Strangest behavior trait I observed for years is that they never feed on the ground. Ever. They are always above ground. Guess thats why they thrive here.
they go to the ground for water that comes from sprinkler run off. Very adaptable birds to urbanization
Wow. We've seen a flock of parrots (at least 2 dozen) a few times in Malibu at Pepperdine in 2016 and wonder if this is the same flock or related. Thanks for sharing! They sure look healthy. Cool.
There are multiple flocks in malibu canyon which is where they go to sleep at night. Largest flock at my house is 42 birds. Another big flock goes to Westlake and another flock or more hangs out in Malibu. My flock comes 2 or 3 x per day on schedule
This is enough to make me really want to move to Cali.
What are you feeding them in the feeder?
they love black sunflower seeds
Actually they are Nanday Conures that started out as pets that either got loose or were let loose and they have been breeding ever since. I know I am 3 years late to the conversation.
What are they eating
I know where they live! A tree hole at solstice canyon! Amazing!
parrots in california???.. parrots are found in tropical countries. this is BS.
technically their conures parakeets read post
they are in the parrot family so they are parrots but .... and there are Feral populations of different parrot species from Budgies to Macaws all over the USA even in Chicago and New York City.
There are multiple speices of parrots, Parakeets and Conures in Southern California. Many Orange county cities have them. I have even seen three blue and gold Macaws flying with a flock(25+) of Green Amazon Parrots. Go to the Belmont Pier in Long Beach. Green redheaded parrots are every where. They drive the people crazy at the near by Starbucks because they are so loud. There is a small flock that flies by my house every now and hen, and i hear them quite often. There also flocks of wild parrots in the San Francisco Bay Area. See them in Alameda. Its always cool to see, but they are also a invasive species.
I need to go bird watching to see if i can see these species of birds.
SuperDelta000 watch the movie The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill. It documents a feral population in San Francisco.
Maybe a week ago I saw Six wild parrots in Long Beach, CA. 3 were on a power line and the other 3 were on the side of LBS Financial Credit Union in east Long Beach across from Wilson High School.
Just saw these on my street - googled green parrots and found your sight. Glad you posted the information.
vid13fan Yes parrots are seen and heard off Liberty Cyn on a weekely basis. it amazes me how they survive.
I had these parrots visit my feeder yesterday and was so excited! I ran to the computer and found your video and now I know what they are! I am from Tampa, FL so these parrots must be populating all across America. Where did you get your feeder? I would love to find this type since the parrots seem to love it. I could watch them all day! Thank you for sharing these sassy beautiful birds!
There are flocks of Nandays, Suns & Quakers in & around St. Petersburg.
Nanday Conures. Cool vid.
