Переглядів 133Місяць тому
BONUS EPISODE OF IMPORTANT STUFF FOR ALL GARDENERS I've never been a huge fan of excessive tomato pruning, but some IS REQUIRED. I do it for only two reason. 1. Adding stress to force seed production 2. Ventilation and a honorable mention 3. Soil nutrients Once the plants have reached a point where I am just trying to give the fruit it's best life, it IS TIME TO PRUNE. I started cutting back th...

String Trellis FAILS Continue [and how we fixed it]
Переглядів 1192 місяці тому
We have a love-hate relationship with this string trellis. Honestly, I want to LOVE it. But it's hard. I think in the end it's too labour intensive for what it is worth. Last year we had a terrible gardening year due to record breaking rain. The tomato plants bearly hit 3' tall. This year we ran into our strings snapping with them full of fruit bearing gorgeous tomato plants. Talk about a bit s...
Mistakes Were Made [celery, rhubarb, garlic scapes, and smoked chicken]
Переглядів 2192 місяці тому
We have had this garden for over 7 years and every year we struggle getting the motivation to actually preserve the harvest before it starts getting less than perfect. Honestly, we just love watching things grow and spending time in the garden together. Typically, we give a lot of it away. But with grocery prices rising daily, we can take it into our own yards, and produce really good healthy f...
Finishing the Outside of the Wood Shed [reclaimed lumber and steel siding]
Переглядів 7012 місяці тому
Time to finish the wood shed now that we have all the materials. We are re-using lumber off of an old building and repurposing it as strapping on the inside. And we're adding metal siding to the outside. This building will hold 2-3 cords of fire wood.
Sunflower garden update. [loving garden experiments]

Last year we started collecting the lawn clippings every second or third time we mowed. We started piling them up beside (and under) the rhubarb. A few months ago I started spreading everything out and there is actually nice soil starting under the lawn clippings. They are slowly deteriorating. I added some topsoil where I was thinking of planting and then we sowed multiple varieties of sunflow...
