August MB225 dab radio review. Is this small portable DAB any good?

Not quite 20 hours battery (at least not via the inbuilt speaker) but this isn’t a terrible little portable dab radio.
Roberts Sports 925 fm/am radio review. Still relevant in 2024? A brilliant emergency radio.

Having one of these radios for emergency preparedness is a sensible idea. Superb battery life on this cheap but well made little fm/am radio makes it better choice than anything else I’ve found which is still in production. I still have another one of these that’s 20 years old and is still going strong. The Roberts Sports 925: cheap, simple, reliable, dependable, with good sound for its size 🙂

Neck light: easy and quick to make & a superb way to edc your flashlight, with an extra safety clasp
Thank you for the review. I like the matching colours of the two radios. I had a rambler mini in sunburst yellow for a while and tried out the Sangean DDR-7 which is almost identical to the Roberts Petite. I would say the sound of the Petite is a little more sophisticated - I liked both of them :) btw - Roberts just released a new range of rambler radios, maybe I'll go for the rambler uno next!
Thank you for the comments! I kept the Petite and returned the Rambler as the Petite definitely sounds better. And wow, I wasn’t aware of the Rambler Uno until I read your comment! Now THAT looks like it might be the Rambler re-issue I’ve been hoping for: leatherette and real wood, proper looking knobs, etc - looks beautiful! I will almost certainly pick one up to try! The audio quality on the previous Rambler BT (mono version) was very very poor for music imho so I pray they have made it better for this release… From what I can work out it runs from aa batteries & with a traditional wall plug: not much info online but that’s what it looks like, makes it a bit of a pain for travelling with if that’s the case as you’d have to take the extra proprietary plug with you - bit of an odd decision if that is the case 🤷♂️ Anyway, I shall see, and thanks very much for the info! 👍😃
Thank you for this video. Fantastic
Thank you very much! Glad you liked it! 👍
@@accoutrements4469 Love your passion
Thank you kindly! 😃
The rambler with plus scales gives you tweezers, toothpick, and the pen for a thinner package.
This setup is the same as the Manager (although you can only have the tweezers or toothpick as well as the pen), which is unfortunately now discontinued ☹️☹️☹️ But yeah definitely the better option than the Minichamp imho which has too many redundant tools which just add unnecessary bulk 👍
Between the soundcore mini 3 and the sony, wich one has deeper bass and wich one is louder? It's really hard to compare through a youtube video, they both sounded very deep to me
The Sony and the Soundcore mini 3 both sounded decent tbh. I think the Sony had slightly deeper bass. Overall volume level was pretty similar as I recall. The Tribot is definitely the best Ali song though, for sure! And you’re right, it’s really hard to capture how the speakers sound in the room as I heard them- I used a fairly decent mic but it’s still not the same as being physically in the room as it is listening back to a video on UA-cam. Have u got Amazon Prime? If so I’d suggest ordering them and sending all back except your favourite 👍
@@accoutrements4469What's that from Amazon Prime? I can order anything and return It after using It with no extra costs? And also, i already have a pair of Sony XB100 since last year i think so i was just wondering if the mini 3 was any better because i LOVE the format of really tiny speakers with Big bass so i was considering a micro 2. But apart from that, i ordered now a Sony Ult Field 1 wich is like the flip 6 and reviewers say It sounds really good. Any plans of testing It? I'd love to see that review
Yeah I bought all these from Amazon prime so I could compare them and just kept the one I like best (Tribit): free delivery and free returns with Amazon prime, no questions asked 👍 I’d love to try that Ult Field! Not sure I need any more speakers but might get one to try it 👍
I have just purchased this exact model in the same colour scales as my EDC replacing my Climber
Nice! It’s a good model to have to keep pocket bulk to a minimum whilst still having a decent few tools on you 👍
Thanks, I liked this so I tried it myself but found that there's such a thing as too small! You don't want your wallet to 'disappear in your pocket' else it might disappear FROM your pocket by accident and not be noticed left behind. It's also too fiddly to get stuff out. What I did though, is use the slim double sided pouch just for 'indispensible' EDC stuff that realistically only get used once every few weeks or months (eg. plasters, plectrum, paperclip, safety pin, hairband, painkillers etc) and then put that sleeve INTO a slightly bigger pouch alongside a few credit cards and folded bills (which are all held together with a mini foldback bulldog clip). Now I have a small-but-not-too-small pouch wallet with my cash and cards very easily available, my geeky EDC stuff available in an 'emergency' inside your solution, plus then some room to spare for whatever whenever.
That’s great - sounds like a good setup to me! 👍 personally I hate having pocketfuls of stuff if I don’t have to and really only need 1 credit card, a bit of cash and maybe a couple of other small items, so this size works great for me for most uses. I do get what you’re saying about stuff sometimes being TOO small and risking it slipping out and being lost! ✌️👍
Agreed, over sized watches are compensating.
Ha ha, that’s what I think too! 😂
Me wincing everytime he puts those metal calipers directly onto the watch faces.
@@SpuddsBuckley the measuring jaws are some kind of hard plastic material on the calipers. Even if they were metal it’s not like I’m dragging them around making circles on the watch face or anything! 🤷♂️ Relax! ✌️
How much it costs?
Cost me £55 in uk, that was with a 20% discount code direct from Casio uk
Is it possible to get midnight manager and change it with scale from jetsetter to get same thing?
Hmm, wasn’t totally sure what u mean, but the Midnite Manager and the Jetsetter both have different toolsets than the Manager. I personally think the Manager has the best toolset and the only way to get that now would be to use a Rambler and put the pen mechanism scales on it. The Midnite Manager has the pen scales already and the same tools as the Manager but it has extra tools as well, although for me personally the extra tools are a bit unnecessary. I do like the Jetsetter too but that does not come with the pen mechanism scales as standard, but it would make a cool little knife if u put the pen scales from a Midnight Manager on to it. It’s pretty easy swapping the scales 👍
@@accoutrements4469 you didnt get me. I am planning to remove light part of the midnight manager and put front scale from jetsetter. This way i will have normal manager as usual. I am asking that does it fit.
Ah, I see! 😂 Yes, you could put the scale from a Jetsetter (or any other 58mm model) onto the Midnite Manager! 👍👍
I really like it. Just ordered one, in the same colour.
I think it looks great in this colour - wise choice I reckon! 👍
Out of stock in the UK and has been for days now. shame, looks nice.
I’m sure they will be getting more stock. It’s a really great watch - haven’t worn any other since getting it.
Probably not uk legal but a sog power pint with one slotted/Philips leatherman flat bit can handle most around the house and town edc situations one might encounter
Yeah have looked at the PowerPont many times but not got one as it’s illegal due to the lock 🤷♂️ Shame
John Lewis has an exclusive variant in a burgundy type colour, and only that particular colour was on sale at £69.99, just purchased it despite it not being my preferred colour just for this discount. I am hoping it’s worth the investment given radios are generally cheap
I reckon burgundy would look verrrry cool on this radio! And that was a good price you got it for! Nice work, I say! I hope you’ll enjoy it! 👍
Thank you so much for just saving us £30!
I had a look and they’re all sold out now! ☹️ Looks good in that colour!
They are back in stock now!
Oh nice! Thanks for letting us know! How are you liking it???
Great video! I may have to pick up one of these old MK VI bags now. Just got an inexpensive repro VII (and ordered a better quality replacement strap of course) for an impending trip. Needed a little handy man, er, I mean, WAR bag to carry odds and ends. :-) Would love to know what you settled on for a repro.
Nice - which repro one did you get? These are really great sized bags for a day out I think - enough capacity and look really cool! I’ve been using one of the Disney store mkvii repros recently - I really like it. I assumed it’d be a pretty rubbish kids toy bag or something as it was from Disney but it’s great 👍 and I won’t cry too much if it gets ruined, like I would if one of my originals got wrecked 🙂
@@accoutrements4469 That Disney repro looked pretty nice -- seems to be sold out now. Unfortunately for me, I had already ordered the cheap (but fairly well reviewed) Amazon MK VII bag with the cheesy strap before I saw this video and went down the rabbit hole of Indy Gear bags. Still, the cheapie bag (with a better strap) will likely get me through my upcoming vacation and...immediate war bag needs. Grin. I do plan to keep on this trek and up my Indy bag game in the future. I can see a nice old MK VI in my future with a decent and proper leather strap. Now that I'm looking around the inter webs, there are some nice bags in this realm out there.
Yes there’s some good options out there, and original old ones that look pretty decent pop up sometimes. Getting much harder to find now though 🤞
Is It any possibility to buy a pair of straps to this colour variant Casio? I can't find them. It seems, that they are selling only black ones.
Hmmm your best bet would be to try one of the Chinese sites: I’m often amazed at what you can get on AliExpress and the like. Or contact Casio directly to ask them, they generally reply pretty quickly to queries in my experience 🤞
Speaking the truth. Particularly about small watches. I want something useable, beautiful but also invisible. It should integrate into my life and not get in the way.
Absolutely agree 👌👌👌 I HATE the massive vulgar monstrosities I see on some folk’s wrists! Ugh!! 🧐

I’m sorry, I don’t know. I know it’s only had a limited release so far but I hope it will get to India for you soon! 🤞

Good luck 🤞
Does it connect to wireless earbuds?
No, apparently not: that would have been a good feature. Maybe in version 3…??? 🤷♂️
now this is how you properly review a watch👍🏽
Very kind of you, thank you! 😊
Nice comparisons. I've put my trust on G2 refills in Easyflow 9000 for a couple of years now. But like what you explained, they occasionally run into ink flow problems on glossy papers, actually even regular writing papers made by Rhodia and alike. I've observed at least 5 refills in M/1.0mm size and suspect 2 major problems: 1. Quality control is intermittent. Whether that's the company's fault or retailer's storage problem (like selling an old batch) I can't tell, but 4 out of 5 refills had severe skippy problems. To eliminate it I simply soak/warm the cartridges in a hot water (below boiling level) for a good 5 minutes. They worked fine afterwards. 2. There is something wrong with the ink flow formula, or viscosity. My ick with Easyflow refills is they all need a start up before actually writing consistently, all of them. I can't speak for everyone here, but I did dig this ink flow problem in several websites and bingo got a lot of similar complaints in FPN and reddit. In my case, the hard starts were the first ick. The biggest ick was that after I wrote approximately 5 A5 pages ink flow started to starve bad it dried dead for a couple minutes, happened to all cartridges despite slight differences in time frame. Had to soak them again. Apparently letting the cartridge sit down for a whole day without writing also prolongs the hard starts as well. All of this problem led me into suspecting that the ink formula they use is too smooth, or too low in viscosity that they can't consistently flow because the ink doesn't form up where it should during the writing process. For a ballpoint to suffer an ink flow problem this serious eliminates its very purpose for an everyday writing tool. I can't imagine writing a field report and having to deal with warming up a pen or worse having it starve midway. Apologies for the long comment.
This was a very interesting comment, thank you! Yeah, it’s a shame about the Easyflow 900 as when it works well it gives a lovely sense line and is so smooth to write with. But, for the same reasons you discuss, I have largely given up on them - I can’t be doing with the same problems you mentioned! Currently the Uni Jetstream remains my favourite by far, just so very hard to get hold of… I’ve also just been using the standard fine tip Parker blue refills at work recently (we’re only supposed to use black - I’m being such a rebel! 😂) as at least those write reliably.
Wpoop has no style, they copy all companies in the same time😂
Ha ha, I think a lot of copying goes on from the Chinese companies… That Tribit Flow is a dead-ringer for the Bose… can’t believe they get away with it really!
@@accoutrements4469 at least tribit does that better than the others. And they don't completely copy them. They do offer a way better battery life and eq support. Tribit are actually good, and not like lots of other crap like tronsmart and Wloser
@@accoutrements4469 at least tribit does that well.
Yes I must say Tribit makes some decent stuff 👍
Thank you for commenting! I love this watch, & also the A700 & A168 (don’t have a W71 though), & like you much prefer these smaller watches to some of the hideous big watches I see! 👍👍👍
Great idea. I bought the WS-B1000 and it's great. All functions and the app are the same. No charging! One battery for 2 years!
I hadn’t seen the B1000 u til you mentioned it - cool! Yeah, I think these are brilliant: the app is great for changing settings and, as you say, it’s soooo good that you’ll get at least a couple of years battery life - it used to really annoy me when I had an Apple Watch that I had to charge the bloody thing every night!
Couldn't agree more regarding the Stormbox Flow. Specifically for reggae music, that's the way to go. Kills it with the bass....amazingly given its only one driver/mono. 👍🏻
@@dubisirie2 yes, sounds great for deep bass - more warm and natural sounding than all the others in this video 👍
Is it better than JBL tuner 2 radio? I'd rather have line-in than headphone jack. Why did they change it 😕? I would connect mp3 player or even a CD walkman to line-in.
I haven’t heard the jbl tuner 2. I’d have expected the jbl to sound ‘bigger’ for sure but have read some reviews that say it sounds really tinny, which I was very surprised to read. I mean, this Petite 2 sounds fantastic but it can’t compete with something like, say, the jbl flip6 so I’d have expected the tuner 2 to have proper jbl sound quality in it 🤷♂️
First video I’ve watched on this channel! Amazing. You can just tell that you can trust this dudes opinion
Very kind of you to say! 😊 I will always give my honest opinion! My channel is so small I don’t get companies sending me free stuff to ‘review’ anyway! lol
I love Casio watches ❤
My favourite! 👍👍👍 I’ve got a ton of watches but more Casios than any other brand! You can’t go wrong with Casio!
If it's in steel case I would buy it
Yes it’d be perfect with a steel case! Perhaps this’ll come soon?? 🤞🤞🤞
500 dollars more for the steel case - ok? 😂 Stop moaning of the steel case in budget watches.
@@un_reveur check the a1000 price and the a1100 price, casio just wants a cash grab on this, the steel case is not that expensive.
@@un_reveur steel case =/= expensive bro, the a1000 and a1100 are not that expensive, and the module is dirt cheap from modern manufactory
Yeah that a1000 was around £100 in the uk when it came out, so I’d expect just a bit more than that for an ABL100 in full stainless, but who knows 🤷♂️ Full stainless really *shouldn’t* be much more expensive though, I mean some Chinese watchmakers produce full stainless steel watches for much less than Casio does. Steel isn’t 24 carat gold is it! 🤷♂️
Great video can you share Felix video please?
It’s easy to find on UA-cam if you search!! But it’s this one: ua-cam.com/video/CTfEkOQY3ZU/v-deo.htmlsi=VLhJGIeX6fT99KVY
This is exactly what I’ve been wanting in a “smart” watch. I will definitely be buying one of these when they are available in the USA. Thanks for the info!
Thank you! Honestly I really love this - it’s got me wondering if I’ll go back to my other ‘dumb’ Casios (I have many of them) & which of my others I should now sell as I don’t know if I’ll wear them anymore…! I suspect this watch will be a big hit for Casio and if so I think/hope they will produce more watches with these Bluetooth features 🤞🤞🤞 Hope these get to the US soon for you ✌️
When will this release in the states ?
I’ve got no idea, I’m sorry. I was extremely surprised to see it in the uk to be honest - it’s usually Japan first and uk is usually well down the list for releases. I’m sure it won’t be too long until it gets to the US 🤞 It’s a great watch 👍👍
i called casio germany today. they said, that the watch will (probably) be released in germany in september. So i think the US will be delivered in september too?!
@@area21million sounds like a reasonable prediction 🤞
Interesting but I can't see myself being tempted by any of the features here, i'm more of an interested user than an enthusiast but I am pretty much addicted to the electroluminescent backlight on the 168.
It’s a great watch, but then so is the A168 - I really do like the blue backlight on that one 👍
This is basically what my EDC looks like, I wear a vintage Casio (w780) on the daily and carry a small torch (olight i3t). A swiss army knife covers most tasks nicely. I'm not into the whole American maximalism style of EDC.
Same here - at one time I found myself carrying far too much stuff that was just not realistically needed. Depends what you’re doing and where you’re going doesn’t it but for average daily around town carry this is plenty. I don’t even carry the little Knipex pliers now a lot of the time 🤷♂️
It is kind of funny. The ONLY two things I liked about having a smart band/watch was the step counter and being able to call my phone when I have misplaced it. Seems like I won't have to get myself a new one but can instead get one of these.
That’s great! Yeah, get one of these instead! I am loving this watch so far 👌👌👌
The f91 is wonderful, love the design and quality. I have an f105 aswell
It’s such a fantastic watch! 👍 I still don’t have an f105, must pick one of those up 🙂
Thing about the compact that just does not do it: de combination tool. Philips screws are just impossible with it. It is a joke in that regard. And ajusting philips screws is something that you always have to do in and around your house. Such a big, big deal if that function does not really work. So yeah, despite the compact being lovely compact, I will stick to the climber with added plusscales for pen. How about you?
Yes as much as I think the Compact is a good general around-town choice I agree about the lack of a Phillips driver - Phillips screws are soooooo much more common than flatheads aren’t they. TBH, I will more often carry a little Manager model and/or a Sportsman over the Compact. Those are probably my 2 favourite models.
One thing for sure is that Spartan is really good.. I have not touched or held, even use it, but I do know that it's a good EDC if you know how to utilize a knife properly.. No scissors whatsoever... However, most people use scissors all because there are times rather than a knife is either it"s easier, or chances, the laws. All in all a good one. Not to mention! It's only 2-layered SAK, cutting will be as precise and accurate than a bulked swiss army knife, as well as the other tools mentioned.
It’s a great knife for sure. I do actually prefer the Sportsman over the Spartan: just slightly smaller and replaces the second small blade with a file tool which can serve a variety of uses 👍
Have, love, needs USB-C.
Yes there’s nothing really that does all this speaker does in such a small form factor: it’s a brilliant little device. And I agree it needs usb C, although I’m pretty certain that will never happen as they’re currently on version 3 of this which has usb C but no fm radio and no as card player 🤷♂️😢
Thanks for a nice review. Whose performance is that of Easy living? 🙏
Hi, all the music used was just copyright free stuff I found on UA-cam - I can’t even remember the recording artists now, sorry! 😕
Hey, what were the makes/models of the other watches you were comparing them to? I really like the one on the left in the firat shot of the video
Hi! Ermmm, I can’t remember the actual extended codes for those other models! If you Google ‘Casio A700’ I’m sure they will all come up! 👍
Is this dab+?
Yes dab+ 👍
I loved every second of your Video! You are speaking of the bottom of my heart about my favorite Watch of all times! 🖤🦇
Ah thanks so much, this is so great to hear! 😊😊😊 It’s my absolute favourite too - I’ve had and still have watches costing many many times more than the f91w but the f91w is still my favourite for everyday wear! 👌👌👌

Best scissors in the world
Absolutely- the best on ANY Multitool by far! I sometimes wonder how other manufacturers can’t manage to make any anywhere near as good!?
Victorinox Farmer (Alox)
Yes great tool for sure but nowhere near as cheap or superlight as any of those in the vid 👍
Honestly, there’s only really two cons I’ve noticed with the ones that I bought, that is I lose them up pretty easily and if you don’t have the one the stylist or the rubber grip, the grip section comes off pretty easily, but if some glue won’t fix and they have a lifetime warranty
Yes I must agree they are pretty way to lose for sure - pretty expensive for them to just slip out of your pocket!! 😢 I’ve take to putting pocket clips on mine nowadays (& even then the clips aren’t always that secure!)
Thanks for uploading and showing them side by side. Something you didn't mention in the video, but which to me looks important too is the contrast with the black background on the A700W vs. the mirror one on the A700WEV. Thoughts on that?
The actual display/screen part is exactly the same on all the models - the surround itself doesn’t affect how legible the screen is whatsoever. All the A700 models have nice clear screens. Is that what you meant? ✌️
@@accoutrements4469 , thanks for the reply. No, what I actually meant is how the black border compares to the more mirror-like border on the othe models.
The black border is more ‘retro’ imho, as tons of older Casio watches have a black border, so I do like that. The mirror border looks more ‘space age’ I think - it really catches the light which makes it sort of more ‘blingy’ so if u like that sort of thing you’d probably prefer that? But I do like the touches of colour on the black border model - that’s probably my favourite one 👍
The Bluetooth didn’t work on mine so I send it back, I’m still considering picking up another one .
I just got mine today, my bluetooth doesn't find any available devices instructions aren't great on how to use Bluetooth.
@@MarkB-dj4xs that's a real shame! Are you going to return it or keep it?
I’ve had 3 of these (2 of version one and this new Petite 2) and never had an issue with Bluetooth: I’d send it beck and get it swapped for another one 🤷♂️👍
Any idea if the case color is painted or molded in? I have the silver and gold versions, and they’re definitely painted.
I’ve had a look and it looks like the case is one moulded piece in this colour 👍
Interesting! Just picked up an A700WEVG-9AEF (the gold one). As you say, the sheer minimalism of the face takes some getting used to - but it is a very nice watch. It just feels a little odd seeing a Casio with so few words on it! I might copy you and see how it is with a different bracelet.
Let me know if u do the strap swap and if you like it 🤞
