I've played for a year and a half. I don't play Scruggs style regularly however I play more Claw hammer because I'm mainly interested in Folk Music rather then Bluegrass. I do know Forward rolls Forward/Reverse rolls and Alternating rolls I just don't practice them as diligently as I should.

Hunter I consider myself an intermediate banjo player. I don’t get to spend as much time picking as I’d like. I’ve always learned the breaks, but I am really wanting to learn to play backup. I can’t read music, I’ve learned by ear.

What is the sequence of strings played for the opening? Is it all the 3rd string? Thanks!

Do tou by chance know the whole song? If so could you showgow to play the part where theyre singing? Everyone does the fast part, like what youre playing, but the part with the verses is completely different from this, if you only listen to it. You cant even play this slower so you can sing over it, its all different. If anybody has a video of someone actually playing this whole song along with the verses and then the fast part, please let me know

I've been playing the guitar for many years and one day I was at the guitar store they had this banjo hanging on the wall and it caught my eye, I've always loved the tone of the banjo so here I am I subscribed to your channel.. I thought it would be pretty similar to a guitar but it isn't lol.. I'm willing to learn how to play the banjo..

Can somebody help me clear something up. This is a claw hammer song right? Looking at your technique it doesn’t look like a claw hammer technique however, more just finger picking?

I’m a raw beginner, just starting with Boil Them Cabbage Down. I was doing ok until the knuckle of my middle finger on my fret hand started locking up at 90 degrees. I had to take a couple weeks off and now I’m going very slowly, building strength. I mostly practice rolls. I’ll see how far I can get with my predisposition to tendonitis.

First day with banjo. I learned finger picking on guitar and I can't stand the picks!! It seems like the thumb pick is so long that I want to file down the point shorter. The string keeps getting caught between the pic and my index finger. It's really strange not to be able to feel the strings with my skin. I guess this old Grandma is set in her ways!!
