Borderline & Strong Emotions part 1: I don’t like being told what to feel
First part of three about my take as someone with Borderline Personality Disorder on strong emotions. I don’t like being told how I should or shouldn’t feel about things. My borderline makes me struggle with healthy emotions as it is. And since I don’t want to tell everyone this, I would prefer if people respected that it’s not lack of emotions in general that makes me actively care about your ”important” thing, it’s rather that I don’t want to open another door. #borderline #menshealth #psychology #mentalhealth #psychiatry #behaviour #depression #bpd #adhd #add #emotional #emotions #stoicism

American Psycho is not about Borderline
Переглядів 619 годин тому
If you google movies and BPD, the movie American Psycho is listed everywhere as an example. This is of course not true. The movie based on Bret Easton Ellis book is about a serial killer suffering from psychopathy and narcissism and not borderline at all. I rant about this in this clip because the internet is wrong again. #borderline #mentalhealth #psychology #menshealth #psychiatry #behaviour ...

    I agree. Healing is not happening over night or by hiding in a cave. But you sound very reflected, aware of your issues, wishes and needs. Some people with BPD are not, and they are running circles of dating, splitting and discarding others over and over again.

    I just ended up on the other side of a friend in a way I absolutely could not understand and felt very very hurt. And I am quite sure he is having Borderline. To help me understanding what happened I swallowed so many information about this disorder over month now... As far as I see it now, therapy can help (if you find someone...that is) but it may take years. But it can be helpful to be aware of what happens and why. Possibly develop skills to handle stressful reactions different and better. It absolutely can mess up every relationship no matter how friendly the other person is...The only way here seems to be: communication. Talk. If not in a stressful moment, then: later. But keep talking. And if in a partnership possibly have therapy for both sides to help. I think, good friends, a good partner, stable relationships can help. But it can be hard to find them- And, worst of everything- keep them.

    I got dumped by my BPD ex of 8 years a few months ago. The aftermath has been soul crushing but it has forced me to really reflect and notice my own BPD traits that I have been ignoring and misinterpreting as "normal". Something always felt off and now I am starting to see what that is. This crisis has now turned into a midlife crisis (I am in my late 30s) and it feels overwhelming to realize what an absolute mess my life has been due to these traits. I have watched every single video of yours and its sometimes scary how much I relate. They have also helped me a lot and it is nice to know I am not alone. Feeling different isolates me from people even if I am around them and share connections with them. I wish I could speak to more people like you who I can relate about these things. I really appreciate your channel and hope you keep posting!

      First I want to thank you for your support in following me. Secondly it of course feels encouraging to know that my story can reach others. And I Agree that there’s not much out there. Most info is made by professionals and not by us our selves. I think both things are important. It sounds from my view that you would benefit from talking to a pro and getting an official diagnosis. Just eliminating the insecurity variable and maybe even finding therapy. Get me right though. Not trying to preach. Therapy can’t fix everything but it is a good start just to have a fixed point to begin from. The relief I felt from just getting an official definition on what was wrong can’t be underestimated. Take care! I will keep on posting!

    What caused your BPD?

    • @TheBorderlineMan
      @TheBorderlineMan 29 днів тому

      Difficult to say with any objective certainty. I can point out certain events in the last 10 years time that made it a LOT worse, but I can also see things going back my entire life that could be BPD-related. But regardless of really old events or genetics, it is the events in the last 10 years that are most relevant for me and my path to feeling better since I became diagnosed a year ago.

      I can imagine that it's been a tough journey trying to work that out. Emotional arrested development by or before the age of 2 causes BPD. It's all about object relations theory. I hope that gives you a little candle of curiosity. I wish you the best on your journey and healing.

    Stalking is a criminal offence. Those who get stalked are victims of a crime, from selfish people who can not control their urges Stalkers should seek help for their mental health problems. As soon as it is clear that you ar dealing with potential stalker, victims should be clear that any further contact is unwanted (preferably in writing), if further contact attempts repeat, everything must be documented and given to police. The sooner you cut the ties with a staler, the larger chances that he will leave you alone. It is terrible how much harm can "well meaning" stalker do, who delusional believes that you are a couple or must become one.

      @@TheBorderlineMan I did listen to the whole video. Your girlfriend had to walk on eggshells, reassure you all the time so you dont get insecure and angry. Domestic abuse happens because one or both partners have deep insecurities. And physical abuse is not the only abuse that exists. Asking partner to check in every couple of hours is emotional abuse or part of coercive control. This distrust did not happen because your partner did something inappropriate but because of what happened in your childhood and your current partner has nothing to do with it. Need therapy, so you dont abuse

      @@Janisg616 No, that is not how things work. You cannot just comment on a single video, thinking you know all relevant things. 1 I have gone to therapy. 2 My ex and I are good friends, and have resolved our issues. I am looking back at things in retrospect, basically warning others of these things and how they can happen. 3 My BPD did actually break out with her. Its not a childhood trauma. Please dont attempt to analyse people you dont know. That is both incredibly rude and ignorant. Allt things you would have known if you had listen to more of my posts. This is a series of posts, don't make hasty comments without having all the facts.

    Splitting is one of the hardest parts of BPD to understand, especially for others. Like a switch goes off. I believe they are emotional flashbacks, returning us to a time we felt truly unsafe and without control. Written about in Pete Walker’s book PTSD From Surviving to Thriving, which I highly recommend.

      Man, I am so sorry for the things you go through. I wish there was an easy solution. But our condition is so dependent on our life conditions. I know way to well how these things are. My only, and I do mean this, fairly good tip other than trying to get help, is to talk, with an open heart with your girlfriend. It might not fix anything, but not talking is a sure way to not fixing anything for sure.
