I don't agree with the excuses given for the Guard's misbehaving (and dangerous) horses. All around the world public-serving horses are trained to remain calm in demanding circumstances. Staff at the Royal stables should be ashamed of themselves. There are dozens of videos available that illustrate techniques for preparing horses for the unexpected, whether under saddle or in harness. Barry Hook of Horse Drawn Promotions in England specializes in training carriage horses to be "Safe, confident and happy in any sphere of harness work." The Budweiser Clydesdales are rock solid in all sorts of parades, festivals and public venues.

Horses are not all ways going to behave no matter how much training and practicing is done for occassions considering they had not been around people crowds for a long time they did very well and the gards soon had them under control the Queen would have been amused by there antics as she loved her horses and know exactly how they can be from time to time. She was enjoying it always with a smile on her face. .

If they ride in something with an engine you'd say they were polluting the environment, if they just marched you'd say they were imperialists. The fact is this is a tradition from a bygone era that happens to be something beautiful. Evidently you've never been around military horses or horses in general. The Queens horses are cheeky. They live together play together they know which horse is in charge. Horses are easily spooked and the loud music set on or two of them off. That could have been a complete disaster but the guardsmen got them under control very quickly so three cheers for them. If you watch the procession when the Queens coffin was taken to the Abby the last two horses pulling the gun carriage the horse without the rider just kept nipping at the other horse the whole way. At one point that frisky horse had the rein or halter or some other piece of leather in his mouth and was tugging the other horse.

One of the reasons was that the celebrations were the first after 2 years of no crowds. So no matter how much rehearsal, there was no way of knowing how the horses would react to the crowds, the noise and the occasion. Overall, a fab display of horsemanship. Nothing went majorly wrong, it was just life and added to the occassion in many ways.
