Bart Ehrman, a leading New Testament scholar, writes extensively on how scribal changes and errors have shaped the Bible as we know it today. These contradictions challenge the Bible’s claim of being divinely inspired and inerrant (2 Timothy 3:16). If an all-knowing and perfect God is behind the Bible, why are there so many textual errors and contradictions? Even prominent Christian leaders acknowledge that the Bible has been subject to human error over centuries of transmission. Furthermore, despite these issues, many Christians remain unaware of them. Studies show that a significant portion of Christians, particularly younger generations, are not deeply engaged with their religion. According to a Pew Research Center study, the number of Americans who identify as Christians has dropped substantially over the past decade, with a marked increase in those claiming no religious affiliation. Specifically, the study found that 17% of Christian Americans now say they never attend religious services, up from 11% a decade ago . This trend is particularly pronounced among younger generations, where a Lifeway Research study shows that 69% of teenagers who leave church during young adulthood do not return. The study highlights a growing disinterest among young people regarding Christianity, suggesting that many view it as irrelevant to their lives . This detachment raises the question of whether it’s wise to adhere to a faith tradition that many of its followers do not fully understand or critically examine. In light of these facts, it becomes difficult to justify following a religion without scrutinizing its foundations.
