    How I wish I could go back in time to the 1980s when American business was more than a little worried that America quality was gone. "In Search of Excellence" was the total focus for 3rd and 4th quarter that year. I was working for one of the most innovative retailers in America, that found parity few others had. We were pumping customers in our stores with high grade magazine quality catalogues. Each of their showrooms front displays personified everything that catalogue displayed on the front cover. We never had to advertise for staff. Ever. Applicants knew the expectation and they felt they had the right stuff. I don't write this warbling about the good ol' days. I write because I see so many obvious parallels to today's retail market--tricks, tips, best practices not to be dogmatically followed. Anyone silly enough to be in retail as a career should know that creativity, desperation, no time and the wrong product is part of your personality and the way you express yourself creatively. Steal ideas shamelessly. I would be all over warm, fuzzy "memories" of the early part of the 20th century. What might appear to our modern eyes as shamelessly fawning over customers in the 1920s-40s can be spun on little acts of kindness. Well chosen candidates personify this and talent in what makes the best associate, could be considered more as Brand Ambassadors are. Let the staff tell you what they think makes the best. Managers should be empowered to grow their crop of talent, but if the manager is hamstrung by HR or whatever impediment. Have you ever be part of interoffice turf wars? I think it is sad that while not all of us have been in that situation, I don't expect that I would need to explain it. It seems to be a universal truth and it makes me grind my teeth. Same company. Same customers inside and outside the office. The bit of forty-ish years ago fully involved as decision makers should be. So. Back to this tired video: I challenge her and anyone else to find videos that get your jaw to drop, people, ideas and concepts that make your toes wiggle. Genuine excitement! That is the "buy in" everyone is looking for. You can do it! If it gives you strength (it did me), if I get a buy in from my staff--that makes me the leader! It's nice to be able to think that, huh? It seems so many times like we aren't leading, but rather just hanging on.😁😉

      RetailNext On the Windows audio works fine. However, on mobile devices (both android and ios) I can hear only background music. I've tried through the browser (chrome and firefox) youtube and vimeo and also youtube mobile app
