How Much Honey is Wasted at the Bottom of our Honey Stick Machine when you Clean it?
This video I show how much honey is wasted if you clean out the machine between batches.
After making sticks, the machine weighs 738 grams, including all the left over honey at the bottom and in the fixtures.
After spending 10 minutes draining the bulk of the honey out the top and out of the fixtures, the machine weighs 684 grams, which means 54 grams (1.904 ounces were) able to be recovered.
After the machine was washed out and dried, it weighed 633 grams, which means 51 grams (1.8 ounces) of honey was lost to waste when the machine was washed out.
The machine has the same amount of honey left over honey whether you make 1 pound of honey or 6 pounds of honey. That means if you make 1 pound of honey, 347.59 grams of your 453.592 grams will make it into straws (76.63%). If you make 2 pounds of honey, 88.87% of your honey will make it into straws.
3 pounds = 92.21%
4 pounds = 94.16%
5 pounds = 95.32%
6 pounds = 96.11%
In terms of waste, if you wash out the machine after making sticks, you will always lose roughly 51 grams (1.8 ounces) to waste. If you started with 1 pound, you would lose 11.24% of your honey to waste. If you started with 2 pounds, you would lose 5.62% of your honey to waste.
3 pounds = 3.75% wasted
4 pounds = 2.81% wasted
5 pounds = 2.25% wasted
6 pounds = 1.87% wasted

Making 100% Biodegradable Honey Sticks!

I am making biodegradable honey sticks with the honey pot honey stick machine. They are made out of 100% plant based straws and are therefore 100% biodegradable. The straws are durable, seal well, and don't change the taste of the honey at all. Sped up parts are at 5x speed. In this session I successfully completed 117 straws in 50 minutes, which is on pace for 140 straws an hour. I didn't coun...
Making Lemon Flavored Creamed Honey Sticks!

I am using the Honey Pot Honey Stick Machine to make colossal and regular sized honey sticks. The filling attachment swaps out. This honey cold, and can't be warmed up otherwise it won't be creamed honey anymore. It's a bit of a slow process, but the machine is just strong enough to get it done!

Hi thanks for your interest! I ended up replacing that machine with this one makehoneysticks.etsy.com/listing/1672367435 which also has some videos up on it. It's a slight improvement in almost every way. My apologies for the slight disorganization on it though. I'm a 1 man show putting these machines together and need to do a better job with my digital infrastructure.

how do we store the straws and how long do the straws last unused?

    • @MakeHoneySticks
      @MakeHoneySticks 3 місяці тому

@AlkebulanHive The best way to open the straws is to cut it with scissors. The plant based straws actually tear open pretty easy by hand. The standard straw holds about 1 teaspoon. I recommend storing them vertically in a cup so that any air pocket rises to the top and doesn't settle in the middle of the straw. The straws can basically hold the honey for forever. If you use raw honey and it crystallized you'll just need to put them in warm water to get it back to normal.

@AlkebulanHive Thanks for your interest! I can ship internationally. The trick is to keep it under 4 pounds to keep shipping low. Currently the presealed version of the straws is unavailable, but we can include unsealed straws (plastic or plant based) or just send the machine without straws to make the package smaller. Either way you would just need to seal 1 end first using the holder/sealer before filling them. I can try to send you a custom Etsy order or if that doesn't work we can figure something else out. Let me know what you want for straws.

@beezybeezhoney5048 We can work out a deal for that if you want it but I'm not ready to make a general post for it. The only hold up is the straws themselves. I haven't been able to get a mfg that can make presealed plastic colossal straws, which is really what helps make it a good product. I can make presealed colossal plant based straws, but I'm still working out a deal with the mfg on those, and we expect to have those ready to sell within a month. But even then I still need to test which sealer does the best job sealing those straws.

@beezybeezhoney5048 We will be the exclusive retailer for those straws once we have them, but you can order them through us. We are ordering them by the pallet load, so our retail price is going to be competitive even against unsealed plant based straws. We've been working on getting these straws perfect for over 6 months.
