92 Cadets Quarterfinals
I was a member of this corps in 92. I really love this show but I regret that the version that most people have seen (including me until recently) was the finals performance which was not as good as the shows from earlier in the week. This was a young hornline and I have suspected that we did not adjust very well to the cooler temperatures on finals night or maybe we were just too emotional. I thought semis was our best show (also uploaded) but I like the weird camera angles they used for the quarterfinals performance.

I was in this corps in 92 and this was the best performance of the week, especially for the hornline. Enjoy!

    what the HELL does that perc. judge DO at 11:55? it looks like he's straight up in the way and the quad players have to allow him through, then he almost gets his ass kicked seconds later by the horns!

    I'll never forget the performance given at about 11am or so at what I thought was the DCI Open Prelims in Marion, Ohio, back when they made top drum corps do crazy things like that. I don't see evidence of scores for this, though, so it may have been another show- or even a practice- but I remember it being a prelims show. It's one thing to play this beautifully at DCI, or just any late season night show, but to play that way in the sun for a crowd of about 30, was unforgettable. It's what separates the greats from the goods.

    Would you happen to have the music to this? I am looking for the slow middle section 5:45 to 7:15. I have started an arrangement but it would be much easier to have the music or one of the parts.

      @@zacharyruffert2493 really? It's the intro to the original piece, is it not? I mean yeah it's arranged of course, l...oh wait... the very first part of it is the intro, but the rest of it... I see, I get it, yes.... so, that is original material by Klesch? far out. I always LOVED that section, EM, am, EM. then those nifty F# Lydian thingys with the Bells. and then C Lydian triumphant, with the horns ending on a sustained 9th! (Perfect pitch is an amazing thing to have:) (I always wished that entire section by Klesch WAS in the original piece. I usually opt for hearing the Cadets version when I want to hear the piece.) (I might or might not have 'borrowed" the final horn riff ending on a 9th for a pit arrangement somewhere in NY back in the day...) Also- I think we met once, randomly, outside a coffeehouse near UCLA. I had my Cadets 97 jacket on and was "completely unusually for me" sitting outside. You walked by, noticed, and when you said your name I immediately recognized you as the DM from 2005, "The Door Show." HI!:)

      Jason Dancisin there was a preshow that would have had some faster movement. It probably would have made a little more sense if that hadn’t been cut. The second set was meant to mimic the “bird flying in front of the sun” that was on the promotional materials for the show. • @jonathant3425
      @jonathant3425 7 років тому

      Matt Stryker I didn't mean to hate on Star by my comment. I know that from what I saw on the live version on PBS the guard had some drops. Other than that I thought Star 92 was one of the best shows that I have ever seen in person or on tv. Anyway, as 93 shows the judges didn't know how to handle Star. Really though the top five in 92 could have gone any which way. I saw the Devils beat the Cavies in Ypsilanti, MI the week before finals. I didn't mean to hate on CBC either. I think really my comment was more of a hate on the judges more than anything.

    • @jonathant3425
      @jonathant3425 7 років тому

      Phantom regiment got 8th because of the drum major uniforms and nothing else. Yes let's put a black sheet over us, put some silver on it and call it a uniform. Anyway, after Devils win at the show I saw I really figured that since they beat cavies they would be seated at least in the top 3. I was shock then and still am now at how low they placed. And then 94 happened and BD has been unstoppable. Cavies have been and always will be my favorite though.

    • @meandmyEV
      @meandmyEV 7 років тому

      Jonathan Torrey I marched CBC in 92. You are right. It was a crazy year for judging. We were way behind the other corps both competitively and in performance until the last week of the season. It was a young corps because a lot of vets aged out or just didn't return after 91. It was also a really difficult show if I do say so myself. It wasn't the type of show where the instructors could have us do a million reps in rehearsal because it was pretty exhausting. BD peaked too early. All the corps had issues on Finals night because of the temperature. It was in the 50s when we took the field. That's tough when you have been playing all summer with temps in the 70s and 80s at night. I could be wrong but I always sensed that PR had problems because a guard member dropped and marched without her saber for most of the opener. It seems like they lost intensity after that. Crossmen also had an unbelievable performance at finals so it isn't surprising they moved up. They also beat us regularly up until mid season.

    • @KiranSundarkdog97

    • @meandmyEV
      @meandmyEV 7 років тому

      I always thought it was funny that the scoring rules changed before the 94 season to put more emphasis on visual. BD's staff was obviously really against this change but it forced them out of a creative rut they had been in and made them focus on visual. The result was the 94 BD show which is one of my favorites of all time, even though they beat us. haha.

      tellinevery1 it is funny because everywhere I have ever marched, instructors try to motivate by saying "you don't want to be saying the day after finals that you wished you had another week in the season" but we could have used another week or two. Haha. Finals week was the first time this show started to gel. It was a fun ride though.

    • @KiranSundarkdog97

      If you had given it a couple more days, this could've won! Amazing to think about how much competitive momentum a show can get in the season (eg. CBC 92 and PR 93). This show is one of my favorites :)
