Employee Mindset
In this episode I explore the challenges and limitations that the current corporate approach to Agile presents. Agile has devolved from a dynamic framework into a rule-bound guidebook that often prioritizes pleasing corporate structures over innovation. This “employee mindset”, and its focus on maintaining the status quo stifles innovation - and speed.
I challenge you to embrace an agile spirit that favors experimentation, flexibility, and a willingness to break free from rigid frameworks. The conversation also addresses the need to help Agile teams focus on value creation and client impact - instead of adhering strictly to prescribed processes. I invite everyone to rethink their approach to Agile and to prioritize outcomes and impact over traditional rule-following. It’s time to let go of the fear of failure and to cultivate a bold, adventurous spirit in the pursuit of excellence and service.

    Hello I really enjoyed this podcast. I would like to ask. How were you able to upload your audio podcast on UA-cam with just an image. Thanks

      Hello there Paul - thank you for the comment and the question. The answer is "it was an accident". I have my podcast RSS (which you get when you have a hosting package from blubrry, libsyn, podbean, etc). All you have to do is tell UA-cam to ingest that feed, and whatever picture is your podcast artwork is automatically imported. You might have a chance to change the default image but I forget...does that help?

    1. When non technical people lead and put direction in a software project is a disaster in itself 2. Insisting that requirements must be disconnected to skill set and what the skill set's technology can do/cannot do will expose problems sooner or later, technology should drive the requirements, you can only create based on what you have or know 3. And no visible overall system design that is being updated as the project goes will result in disparate modules not a cohesive system My take - there is no agility in software development, it was and will always be a slow and difficult process, if only the whole IT industry accept it as it is we should have better systems

      There's lots of reasons why agile is struggle. Yours are all good points. I roll everything up to misapplication. Agile (I started with XP) was GREAT for small, start-up products. Scaling to non-software organizations is a bad fit. You can force it to work, but its no better than what you had before.

    Agile is too often misimplemented. It doesn't take human nature into account, especially human nature in business settings.

    Critical Evaluation: The speaker discusses their past criticism of the State of Agile report, highlighting discrepancies between its portrayal of Agile and their own industry experiences. Challenges with Adaptation: Agile is noted to be struggling with adaptation, which poses a significant problem given that adaptability is a core tenet of Agile methodology. Dissatisfaction among Medium and Large Companies: Medium and large companies express lower satisfaction levels with Agile, indicating a potential erosion of trust in the methodology. Lack of Direction: The report is criticized for not providing clear guidance on the future direction of Agile, with a call for actionable proposals rather than mere observations. Misalignment with Business Goals: There's a noted misalignment between Agile practices and business objectives, with a focus on customer value creation rather than the original intent of Agile. Limited Adoption Outside of Technology: The majority of Agile usage is confined to software development, highlighting a missed opportunity for broader implementation where agility is needed. Customer Satisfaction as a Top Priority: Survey respondents prioritize customer satisfaction and time to delivery over competitive advantage, reflecting shifting organizational priorities. Measurement Emphasis: Different companies prioritize different Agile metrics, with North American teams emphasizing predictability while smaller companies focus on value delivered. Small Company Success: Small companies are highlighted as having more successful Agile implementations, attributed to their ability to maintain Agile's essence without overly regimenting it. Leadership Barriers: Resistance to Agile within organizations is often attributed to leadership barriers, including a lack of understanding and support for Agile principles.

    Hello Chris, what 5 books on Agile, inspire you?

    • @BadassAgile
      @BadassAgile 2 роки тому

      Interesting question. I think I learned more about Agile by doing than reading or listening. Lean Startup is problably my favourite. Jeff Sutherland’s original “Scrum” is also great. Jason Little’s “Lean Change Management”. After that, I can’t say I find much ‘new’ in reading more and more books. I really love reading my friends’ books - the guys from Agile Pubcast, Laurens Bonnema…I also enjoy Vasco Duarte and Ryan Ripley as podcasters. If you’re new and trying to learn, you can’t go wrong with ANY of these. Thank you for your question Oje, and thank you for listening!

Agile is been great process but this perfect pace needs to serve old age challenges too. It's question and efficiency of these Aged people who matters more in this upcoming challenge. Big question is do World is ready for it? Hare Krishna

    Hi Chris, its great to see you on UA-cam...one thing is really make me think. World is now with 7+Billion population and old age is on brimming edge in 25yrs major population of time now will turn to 60pls...this cycle is terrific, as caretaking is major challenge. Can Agile make positive difference in this chunk of population. Hare Krishna

      Great question. Anytime you have a problem that has no previous known solution, you can use agile principles to help solve it. Experiment small, test, measure repeat. Prioritize and focus (etc - these are all agile principles applied to non-software domains).
