We are studying this song right now. In talks given by David Wilcox it appears that he uses D - A - D - G - A - D, which is pretty close to what your software ferreted out but it is clear in every video EVER of David Wilcox playing this song that it is Capo 3 not Capo 1.

Learning this song just takes persistence. Follow this guitar tab and use the playing performances by Clive Carroll and other guitarists on YT to get the right voicing once you've learned the basic notes. Best to learn it section by section as it's less daunting. I've played fingerstyle guitar for a number of years and even at an intermediate/expert level, I still find The Hermit to be a particular challenge because of the subtle voicing and the sheer length of the song. One thing I've noticed is this tab differs a bit from some of the playing examples of the song on YT in that the players tend to use harmonics, especially at the 5th, 7th and 12th frets, where the harmonics are not indicated in the tab. Watch Clive Carroll's excellent rendition and you'll pick those subtle harmonics up that really add to the voicing of the song. Remember to let the harmonics ring! The Hermit is truly an example of John Renbourn's brilliance as a guitarist and composer. He's definitely one of the great guitarists in recent memory and his music will live on for others to play and enjoy.

I play this as it is here pretty much but I put a Capo on 5, sounds glorious.

All these GP tabs of Cadiz on youtube are wrong. Never trust guitarpro tabs, they're transcribed by intermediate players/users.

Great arrangement. Very helpful to have the music highlighted as the song is played. MIDI is a strand sound, but it is effective for learning. Then play along with The actual recording for nuance.
