Native American Fish Weir Found In Willington, CT
Переглядів 2357 років тому
I have a rather exciting find to share with you. Recently I believe I have discovered what may be a fully intact Native American fish weir. I found this weir accidentally while hiking an old transmission line nearby hunting for old discarded insulators. I have been to this location many times and remember seeing the arranged stones in the river but not knowing what they were for. My recent inte...
Removing a Subaru Engine from Trunk
Переглядів 247 років тому
We bought an EJ22 Subaru engine but encountered some challenges with the 98' Impreza L Wagon being our only way of transporting it back home. The four of us were barely able to move it by hand into a position which then allowed us to finish the job with a jury rigged come-a-long winch. With this set up, we were able to lower it onto a hand truck and take it safely away to its new home.
The Mystery of Hartford Faience's "The Sun Worshippers" Mantel
Переглядів 918 років тому
The “Sun Worshippers” was a decorative overmantel made by The Hartford Faience Co. (Hartford, CT). It was displayed at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair and disappeared shortly after. The only photographs available are black and white, however there is a colorized view of the over mantel in the video. Cheers! If you have information on the whereabouts of this piece or information that is not publ...

"Hartford Faience Co " 1920s Factory Model
Переглядів 3028 років тому
The Hartford Faience Company was incorporated in 1894 (Hartford, CT) and produced tiles for mantel designs and later specialized in the manufacture of electrical porcelain. This model of the Hartford Faience factory was created using a limited supply of vague pictures and simple floor plans showing limited views of the interior and exterior. The model closely resembles what the factory would ha...

Nice to see this. This link has a nice photo of the factory. connecticuthistoryillustrated.org/islandora/object/50002%3A725 My interest stems from living in the house of F.L. Bishop’s daughter which was built on the back of F.L.’s estate, his home was razed in the 40’s & a synagogue has resided their since. F.L. was the secretary & treasurer from the formation of Htfd Faience Co following the Atwood Faience Co. In the mid 90’s I explored the abandoned factory which I see closed in 1991. The factory looked like they stopped everything in the middle of a work day & sent everyone home for good. Silo full of silica/quartz sand, cooling racks loaded with insulators, conveyer belts loaded with insulators for firing, desks & files full of documents, a perfect condition asbestos suit, various machines, etc. I now wish I had taken some souvenirs but didn’t feel right about “pilfering” items that didn’t belong to me. The building has since been demolished & I think it is just a parking lot now. Oh how I wish I had taken video and photos.

I’m just picturing the description of what you saw there! Thank you for sharing and taking the time to comment, I can only imagine what this place used to look like, I used to collect lots of insulators and became very interested in this company near where I lived, there’s not a whole lot of information on Hartford Faience, that’s why I like digging for new clues about them, this factory model is based off of old fire plans that the Hartford town hall still had filed away, got them thanks to a friend who was able to make some scans
