Amazing playthrough! That kit sounds incredible too
Thanks Jeremy! Glad you enjoy it 🥁
Man, are you using Gavins kit? Looks and sounds exactly the same, in a good way!
He’s a pretty huge influence of mine lol glad you feel like I got close!
10/10! Best video on the internet!

😊
Sounds great!!!
Thanks a bunch!
This guy's in love with his cymbals! 😂😂
it’s mutual, they love me back 😘
@@AdamSoucyDrums cool. Nikko McBrain and you have lots in common, but I think he uses like 5 more than you. My question - why so many? How many possible different sounds are needed?
@@guyfrattallone6029 it’s all about colors and differences in pitch for me. I try to “mirror” the phrasing in the other instruments or vocals that are happening in the arrangement a lot of the time, and it’s also just nice to have a wide variety of textures to play with! a crash in a heavy section might feel more aggressive if I hit a china cymbal with it, or it might be cool to only use smaller effects cymbals as accents in the verse of a song if the dynamics are lower. all depends on context and I’d rather have the options!
very interesting! kind of a general question on the effect drums, are there frequency ranges for each sound that are better suited for applying effects? I noticed when you isolated the effect channel and the drums sounded small - do they sound really big sometimes? and is that a choice to change the overall vibe within the mix?
man it is SO situationally dependent. I guess I'd consider everything from 5k and below to be fair game, things can get really harsh in the upper regions when you're doing this. but even then it really depends on the kind of distortion you're using; it might sound fine full range! generally I'm not even really thinking of the actual frequencies, I’m more focused on abstract feelings of “distance” and “size” as my two guiding principles. think of it this way, if I want to convey something that’s “huge” but “far away” I wouldn’t limit the range of the filter to the telephone-ish 1-2k region like I did here, I’d focus on a much broader area that includes a lot more of the big sounding low-mids while still cutting out a lot of the highs to push the effect “away” from me. if I want something small and closer up, I’d do the opposite. these are always snap judgements I’m making in the moment, but in most cases the goal is to contrast whatever the surrounding context is. if the song is already sounding big it makes more sense to me to shrink things down in a moment like this. when we did “up to here” I wanted the opposite! blown out, far away sounding drums looming in the background over the tight arrangement we had going on in the foreground. it’s a lot to think about!
I love watching these breakdowns! Since we don't track together, I'm missing out on all the mad science work you do under the hood!
love this!
Beautiful!
Beautiful!
You sound great. Just curious, what sticks do you use Adam? Thanks
These are the Promark TXMHW sticks, Matt Halpern's signature model! They're really pretty heavy and a little front-weighted but I really like the fat sound I'm able to get from the larger tips.
Great job! I play the bass and love the rhythm
Thanks Michael! Glad you enjoy it 😊
Flawless, hell yeah man! Right in the pocket, as always.
🖤🖤🖤
Sehr schön gespielt, gefällt mir sehr gut!
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoy it 🖤
I use a 78 acrolite as my main snare and I like to keep it tuned pretty high since I get good attack with nice overtones wide open
they definitely do the high-cracky thing really well too! it’s crazy how flexible they are
great vid man! I've gotta get the dust off of my acro!
hell yeah you do! get that thing out of it’s case!
I’m sorry I didn’t mean to wear grey I’m sorry
What’s your favorite pairing? Genuinely curious!
This is good I like it
Hey thanks! 😊
Clean ghost notes. Nice!
Hey, thanks! 🖤
Hello Gav, oh wait.
Awesome composition! Clear influences from the great Gavin, the whole song sounds amazing. Just subbed
Thanks for the sub and the kind words! Happy to have you on board 😊
what was your favorite part and why was it Tony inspecting my snare
I really love making music with you, my dude! The Flood is already becoming one of my more popular songs & it’s all because you’re bringing the heat! ❤
Clean!
Dynamite chops, but I found myself wanting to hear fewer linear runs and more musical phrasing.
Excellent playing
Just wanna watch this on an endless loop ❤
Sounds great.
Awesome. You've earned a new subscriber, sir. 🤘🏻
great playing, the drums sound spot on.
Thanks Curt!
Sounding real killer, dude! 🔥

The videography on this is freaking epic!!!!
Like the Natals....lol...sounds great
Well done dude!!! Great feeling, sound great playin!!!!
Great playing, love the Ash Natals
Is the Bop kit Orange County Drums OCDP? with a Natal Meta?
That is a Natal Hand Hammered 14x5.5 snare drum! The other two pieces are some repurposed no-name shells finished and assembled by yours truly! ✌️
Hi Adam, have the Natals.....great video...great info.....prefer Aquarians for years now.
Great review but the background drums are to distracting. Turn them off.
Can I purchase this piece?
Maryelen Guagliardo I’ve been getting asked this question quite a bit recently. I’ll be transcribing it soon, DM me, let’s talk!
Adam Soucy can I still purchase it?
Cool!
great sound!
Hey Adam, great video! I'm looking forward to trying this with my tama slp bubinga snare. I have cut the snare wire for years by instinct, but never had the opportunity to experiment with alternate hoops on the same drum. Currently with an evans genera too!!!! And also, used a powerstroke 3 on a 13" remo mastersound snare, my favorite snare sound growing up! Even handles low tunings great!
John Petruzzelli sounds awesome dude 👍 let me know if you get stuck! Happy to help
cool. saw you on craigslist. i just moved to NH from Florida. was a pro drummer now I'm a barber but thinking about getting back in the game
Cody the Barber Never too late to get back into it! PM me, maybe I can help.
Guess you could say that drum part was EXPLOSIVE lol thanks I'll show myself out. (P.S. I really enjoyed this, really hoping you make more stuff like this.)
MicTheSnare official roll out is coming this week. Gots a nice little preview vidja for ya
