Inspired by cherry blossoms. There is a distinct change in the four seasons in my hometown. It gets really hot and humid in summer, it snows heavily in winter. Cherry blossoms bloom in spring and Autumn leaves burn wherever you go.
By experiencing the seasons, you realise nothing lasts forever. Change is expected in life. Picked up a Japanese red ink stick and started grinding it, splashing the ink on the paper celebrating the transient beauty of cherry blossoms.

What a fantastic fusion of photography and poetry and painting in creativity, bringing nature closer, much closer!
So lovely to receive your nice comment - thank you ☺🙏
Konnichiwa once again Junko Azukawa San. I saw the whole Universe in your beautiful artwork. It would echo the longing we feel to be part of something greater. Another masterpiece. Thank you once more for sharing such beauty and grace. Arigato gozaimasu. Peter. UK. 🙏🙏🙏
I usually use black soot ink in my artwork, but this time coloured pigment. It was a therapeutic moment when the colours spread on the large paper! ☺ Thank you so much for your comment 🙏
Konnichiwa Junko Azukawa San, that beautiful artwork, literally took my breath away, the explosion of light driving away the darkness, you can almost see a beautiful kami right at the centre sharing the love of countless ages to all. Your work is transcendental, every piece has its own kami. Thank you for sharing such beauty ma'am. Arigato gozaimasu. Peter. UK. 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you so much for your warm comment, Peter. To capture the light, I had to focus on the shadow, which made me reflect on something important ☺🙏
Beautiful video. Thank you very much. )
@@Nastya_Kamenskaya88 Thank you for your warm comment ☺️🙏
I do love the way the camera swiftly spans through the pieces of art, giving no time for viewers to think, to analyse. It must be another way of 机锋问答, I think. You will directly grasp, will feel, will experience "something" -if you can- or you won't, but you are not expected to learn anything which could be verbally put into concept.
@@natsuminofan Thank you for your thoughtful comment ☺️ Sharing “something” and connecting with my audience makes me happy so thank you 🙏
@@JunkoAzukawa Of the arts on display, the #2 on my top favorite list is the one at 1:22 and the #1 at :53. Why? I don't know. It's just how I feel. 🙏🙏🙏

Sempre interessanti questi video sulle tradizioni storiche del Giappone. Grazie !
@@cis961 Grazie per il tuo meraviglioso commento☺️🙏
Konnichiwa Junko Azukawa San. Welcome back ma’am, a beautiful video about preparing the tools and ink. I always love the way that the calmness and the Zen philosophy of doing things, makes everything you do to prepare, flow as one within yourself. Even the flow of ink into the water was a beautiful piece of art in itself. I look forward very much to seeing your calligraphy. Be safe and well. And may Amaterasu herself watch over you. Arigato gozaimasu. Peter. UK 🙏🙏
Thank you so much for your warm comment, Peter. I will pass it on to the videographer as well :) Have a wonderful & restful Christmas and New Year!!
Question 1: Do we need to use rice paper or can we use other papers too? Question 2: Where can i buy rice paper?
Konnichiwa Junko Azukawa San, once more you have created a beautiful work of art, with the ink flowing like a peaceful stream, and the music following along in unison. Your art goes beyond just brush strokes, you touch the viewer with a philosophical memory of the mind. I haven't yet found anything that even comes close to what you describe with your art. Like I said in your last video, a perfect mushin. Domo Arigato Gozaimasu. Peter UK 🙏🙏🙏.
@@Peter-ef6ut Thank you so much for your warm and encouraging words, Peter 🙏 Keeping going is the key to finding new things and wishing you a great journey of ink 😊!!
Thank you.
Can people tell the difference between a high quality ink and just any other blank ink
@@SK-S2N High quality ink travels(bleeds) on the paper finely but the quality of the ink is not that important. Having a beautiful mind is the most important element when you paint 😊!

Grazie

Love these little explanations of brush and ink strokes ❤🫶🏻🙏🏻
This is just what I was looking for. Perfect !! and I love the mental aspect which is why I’m taking the whole process real slow - getting a feel for the tools and learning a little about the thinking behind the painting or writing philosophy as I go. Today I unboxed my tools and photographed everything as it was an unused beautiful set. Started with discovering a little about the brush types I have - then got stuck with how to grind the ink. From not having a clue to knowing exactly what do do in one simple and beautiful video . I can’t thank you enough. Found this video at midnight U.K. Tomorrow I’m going to grind ink with much appreciation 😊
@@louiseann_venusandneptune so nice to hear 😊 Enjoy this beautiful art form and thank you so much for sharing your story. Happy painting!! ☺️🙏
@@JunkoAzukawa you must have felt the vibe yesterday💜💛 I completed my first little painting - a mostly, text painted, birthday card for my son. Black inked words and a water colour flower. I haven’t painted since I was a teen after leaving college.(now 56) I am very critical of what might not come through my hands onto paper, but every time I held the brush (as you taught and knew why it was better that way) and listened in to the music that I chose for the project that calmed me, I was able to focus on the in moment doing, not what it might become. End result I had a good enough for me 💕 Token for my son, which went into a glassed frame and was wrapped safely - I was panicking all week that I wasn’t going to have the courage to do it. But the mindfulness & feels of dropping the water on the ink stone, and the process of grinding the ink to the right, for me, consistency and the practice of the types of brush strokes that I have learnt from your video kept me entrained to my divine skill. 🙌🏼😇
thank you for your tip 🌹

Thank you for the tips. I was wondering how you can tell that a brush is good quality before you wet it, i.e. when you buy it
So nice to hear this video was useful for you ☺️🙏
Beautiful work
Thank you ☺️🙏
This may seem unusual, but I like to write out letters and words in the grinding process almost as a way to pray to whatever higher power could grant me what I need to accomplish my creative goals. It is probably unnecessary and just a superstitious ritual, but I do think it at least helps me with getting focused on my goals and start relaxing properly.
Thank you for watching and for your comment. I have been learning Japanese calligraphy and believe in the power of writing and words. I found it is a great idea to write some words when grinding an ink stick ☺️

Does the ink from the ink-stick washable if it gets on you hands and fingers?
Yes it’s washable. I get ink on my fingers all the time! but it stains on fabric and paper.
This helped a lot! I read a book about the basics of Chinese art but seeing how to prepare ink in a video is super helpful!
So nice to hear that this video was helpful☺️ happy painting!
Hi I am starting to learn japanese. But i am not able to read the calligraphy version of the kanji as it looks very different from how its printed in the books. How do i read calligraphy kanji? Thanks

What do we do with left over ink from the ink stone? Do we have to clean the ink stone with paper towel after we finish painting?
There is animal based glue in the Sumi ink so please wash the stone with water after you use it 😊
