The Recyclery Community Bike Repair Shed - Canberra
The Recyclery is building a new community bike repair shed in North Canberra to provide affordable, reliable second-hand bikes and to build the community’s bike repair skills.
Since moving to our new location at the Canberra Environment Centre in North Canberra (Harrison), we’ve been making do in an old shelter shed designed for rubbish collection and storage. Which is ironic considering that we’re actually upcycling old bikes in there and repairing them for sale to divert from landfill!
The Recyclery is passionate about equipping people with bike repair skills and making cycling accessible to everyone but we really need a proper bike repair shed to do this in.
So, we’re currently constructing The Recyclery Community Bike Repair Shed in Harrison and we’d love your assistance in helping us get it to the grand opening.
Here’s Where You Come In:
We’re seeking donations to help us finish fitting out the shed to create a vital sustainability resource for the community.
We’re planning to reduce the new shed’s environmental footprint and improve its sustainability by installing a water tank, cladding it with plywood and adding insulation. We’ll also install shelves and buy additional community bike repair stands, tools and consumables ready for use. This will help transform it into a safe, welcoming and functional bike repair shed!
Our Fundraising Goals
$6,000 - 15,000L water tank
$12,000 - internal cladding, insulation, shelving, tool storage.
$20,000 - extra tools and bike repair consumables.
Huge thanks to all our generous sponsors so far who believe in the value of The Recyclery’s Community Bike Repair Shed, including ACTEW AGL, The Green Shed, and Bushman Tanks (who donated a water pump), Thors Hammer, First Sheds, and CHC.
With the new shed’s Grand Opening planned for Saturday 1 March 2025, we’d love your help in giving it the final touches for Canberra's newest community bike repair shed!

Good luck, cycling is a fantastic way to stay fit, experience your surroundings and have a negative impact on the environment!
Thankyou! We love cycling, and reckon it is excellent climate action too!
Thank you
Hi. Thank you so much.
Love this!! ❤❤❤
Does anyone know the rough estimates on the dimensions of those beds?
I have so much sand...
nice Video host
Permaculture lol is that a fancy way of saying gardening 😂
Great video , the info re swales & bermes was very helpful. The garden looks amazing
Wonderful.henny,central of borneo.lndonesia
I love it❤❤❤.Henny,central of Borneo.lndonesia
I wish I had a yard.
Brilliant!
👍👍👍
The easiest way of harvesting water is to fill up your yard with a thick layer of organic matter which will gradually rot and soak up all the rain water and feed your plants in your yard immediately and for a long time after the rain season. Your plants should be thick enough to shade the surface from the sun preventing drying up fast
Climate change is a hoax
Diagrams would have been good. You didn't show how you made your wicking beds. I'm trying to do this in my new place thank you.
❤it looks buitiful❤
Life changer 💝
A thrill to be part of this. Thanks Z, N, all at the CEC, and all who made the Active Travel Day a success.

I'd love to see a DIY on the Water Leveller and the A-Frame leveller. Amazing simple and affordable tools, but very important Water capturing tools. Thanks for sharing ans amazing garden
Learnt alot . Very informative
Great video and awesome tips! And everything you're growing is insanely healthy!!! Curious. I'm learning my 2 acres. Digging around today in different spots revealed that when I go through my (mostly clay) soil down to 1.5 to 2ft + down, water begins to fill up the hole I made. Now, of course, it's spring and we had some heavy rain about a week ago. But I'm concerned about this water filling. But do you think I can use it to my advantage by putting wicking sticks around to pull UP the water?? Your video got me thinking and excited about the possibility. And btw, you're outfit is cool. You look like an elf or other fantasy creature but with great color style.
Muito lindo organizado gostei bastante 😊❤❤❤ parabéns 😊
There is no climate change happening, only government propaganda. Stop chemtrails.
What if it starts smelling like ammonia?
Great video. Thanks so much.❤️🇨🇦
Here in the states, that strip of land is often owned by the city. It may be prudent to call your town hall before spending time and money. LOVE THIS (where feasible)!!!
Should we put any air holes in the container to allow oxygen in, or is the periodic opening of the lid to add food scraps sufficient?
Air holes are needed, If you're up-cycling an old container we recommend drilling holes around the sides and bottom of the container (and sanding the sharp bits back) :)
Excellent presentation! Thank you. I am planning to return to home garden work farming after a long hiatus. This was a great refresher.
We’re about to establish a community garden commons at the Scullin Shops with some worm farms integrated into raised beds so this was very informative and relevant! Thank you!
Well done 👏
Very informative video! Great work 🪱 👍
These Things are all great, but living in a City and without Access to much ground you are really limited to composte things.
So informative thank you
❤ from 🇮🇳.
What a beautiful garden full of happy, healthy plants, chickens, people and more! Lots of loving work evident! Love your small water movement and soakage systems.
Wow. You just solved a lot of my problems in one video. How deep would you recommend digging the trenches? Are you saying they can both be used for paths and swales?
Nice. Wish I was 25 again, and had a house with a decent yard. Thanks for the video.
This is great! 😮😮Thank you for sharing your expertise, because it can all be a bit of a puzzle for me 😅 ❤
Thank you. Lots of ideas i can try out in my garden. I put lots of woodchip down last year which has made an incredible difference to water retention in my garden. Can't wait to try some of these too. My garden is on a slope and will definitely benefit from more of this. I am pleased to say I instinctively created some garden beds in order to stabilise the slope and slow water, but there is definitely room for improvement!
cool
do you have any videos on how to make a wicking bed? thanks
Could you please tell what the hanging cane item is toward the end of your video? It is a light? Is it for insects? Did you make it?
Wicking beds always confuse me. I can't wrap my head around how plants would grow roots through the space between the dirt and water. And how would you prevent soil from dropping into the water?
Homely?!? That drainage system is sheik! Modern! Gorgeous!
Try “chique” maybe?
@@chrishoo2 How about chic ?
You are a genious..specially water level stick method is awsome
