Knex drawbridge 2023
I made this little drawbridge inspired by a little one in Astene, Belgium.
It has two mechanisms.
One to ensure the bridge cannot be opened when the barriers are up.
One to ensure the barriers cannot be lifted when the bridge is open.
Simple, but a lot of fun.

Yes, but when heavy turning, ie a lot of torque, they start to skip.

That's a really unique solution!
Since K'nex is mainly composed of general-purpose parts rather than special-purpose parts, stiffness and shape are limited. But that's why it's fun to solve problems with ingenuity. I took great care making sure the feet on my actually support the whole thing. I'd like to do it agin and see if I can make it more sturdy and give it a hook. O well, here's trying.
@@pauldelcour Thanks. Mine certainly has something like feet, but they support little weight. It weighs nearly 10 kg, so I gave up. I also have left behaind about a hook and wires, and I want to rebuild them someday!

Where the ratchets are are you using modded rods because I’ve tried to re-create your machine but I’ve ran into issues with the length of the rod
Hi there. That was my issue as well. The width of the wheel space is determined by everything that's in there, so wheel drive, ratchet etc. which makes for a non K'nex geometric measure. The second wheel has a black rod which I cut a bit off, be it very little, to make it fit very snug. The third wheel has a red rod, but that is very close to being too short. It sometimes drops out of the side bearing. Have you seen the video with the 'finished' machine. What is the principle of operation? I.e. do the wheels stop at a random position and if so, how?
I have not yet numbered the wheels, but I'm sure they stop at random positions, also because they turn at different speeds due to frictions in the system.

Maybe at some point I will rebuild her and try and put a pulley and rope in etc. It will need to be stronger though which would make it heavier etc Not easy, but an interesting challenge for sure..
u can hold more weight by it just being on the wheels and have a break so it does not move
Good idea. I could just have the feet be on wheel level. However, it is the boom that snaps if I put on any weight.
