    Michael Jackson called Berry Gordy and asked him to play the Scarecrow. Suzanne de Passe talked about this several interviews. By the Jacksons no longer being apart of the Motown family, Berry was reluctant on having him play the role.

    Great conversation. There's a lot of this that's missing from the DOC. There needs to be a complete unpacking of LUTHER & HIS DIVAS - including Aretha, Dionne, Diana, Cheryl Lynn, Cissy & The Gyrlz, Whitney Houston, etc. THE COLLABOS. Speaking of ROSS, the true measure of his adoration for ROSS was on her 1987 Red Hot Rhythm & Blues on which his dream truly came true as he wrote and produced "It's Hard For Me To Say" for Ross. Was quite the quiet storm hit in Savannah - to not have been released. Diana resurrected it when she was on OPRAH the final season (a couch serenade from Diana to Oprah) and she's added it into her live act - incorporating images of her long lost Motown family on the big screen behind her.

    The sing Somebody's Watching Me was meant to originally for Lenny Kravitz as Rockwell was friends with Lenny Kravitz and he wrote it with him in mind but Lenny Kravitz said Rockwell sing it. So in essence the song could have been Lenny Kravitz, Rockwell and Michael Jackson on one somg together.

    Muscles was the name of Michael's pet boa constrictor so it was not opposite of his religion to write that song, it was a clever play on words and he knew what people would think the song was about. When Michael worked with Sir Paul, McCartney was staying at a ranch in California while writing and recording. Michael went to that ranch and stayed with Paul there to work with him. Michael fell in love with that ranch and bought it, it became Neverland.

    I love Drama's humor and he's aging backwards! Him and Ms Sphia to me represents the golden age of "Black Gay Atlanta". Black gay culture in Atlanta took a major hit after 2020 ... gentrification, sections, bad music, COST, and the drunken/drugged out/house fights destroyed it. Now many of us have just assimilated to more straight events and spots bc gays are literally everywhere here anyway and it's better experience overall. Or solo or group house parties

    Hey Jay Ray, as you know, I am a huge Ross fan. Check out a song she recorded called "You Were the One" from 1978, and tell me who is singing background vocals on that missed Gem. Motown should have released this song. It would have gone Top 5 on the R&B charts and possibly top 20 on the Pop charts. It's very soulful, and Ross stretches her vocals just enough to still sound effortless. Her tonality and ease of bringing a song to life is something that very few artists can do. Check it out and let me know your take. One thing about Diana, even if some of her music was not commercialized, especially here in the States in which her 3 90s albums were sublime and did very well overseas, she has always worked with top notch producers and songwriters her entire career, and that says a lot. It says that she doesn't accept any shortcomings, and at the end of the day, like Frank Sinatra says, SHE'S GOING TO DO IT (HER) WAY!

    The l Try Cd was sublime by Bofill. One of my favorites off that album was "The Feelings Love" Under the Moon, Angel of the Night, and That's What Makes the World Go Round, and we cant forget I Try! Angie was awesome! She was beautiful!

  • @gmoneyhollywood4116
    @gmoneyhollywood4116 Місяць тому

    Angela's commentary was on point! When Davis transitioned her to more full-flege R&B and Pop was the downfall of her personal satisfaction with being in the Music Industry. She was more of a Jazz/Soul artist and if he did not move her career in the more poppy direction like he did Whitney, she would have contiuned to have success and would have been supported by the black community. FYI, Angie sang background vocals along with Patti Austin on Diana Ross Take Me Higher single. Angie had much respect for Ross and Ross reciprocated it!

  • @gmoneyhollywood4116

    This is a horrible comparison. In 1983 and to this day, Diana Ross is in a class by herself. She is the footprint of a True Diva. The singers you are comparing her to can not hold a candle to Ross success, style, showmanship, beauty, intelligence, articulation, and financial and business acumen, it's really no match. Ross is a American icon and she's a Global Institution! She's royalty in England, Switzerland, Norway, France, and Italy. She is a European Goddess, and she is highly regarded in Japan. The Japense loves her! She has a special kind of relationship with Japan and Australia! She is unmatched! FYI, on 8/11/2024, Diana packed the house in Amsterdam. 17k+ strong fans and a sell-out in Amsterdam. Her European tours are huge, and any special festivals or events in Europe make front page headlines, especially when she performed for the Queen of England in 2022 in Glastonbury. She was the headliner out of 15 to 20 different acts! That's her star power! She's not just a star, she's a Superstar and she still reigns SUPREME!

      You put it perfectly and I could not agree more with you or have said it better, Ms, Diana Ross is in a class of her own I love all of those that you guys put her in the category with but even Diana's net worth is more than all of those ladies together and yes at 80 yrs old she is still selling out and packing them in at her concerts..I give Diana Ross her flowers now....😉😊🌝🌹

    • @gmoneyhollywood4116
      @gmoneyhollywood4116 19 днів тому

      @migrain45 , 😊👍! Appreciate it! FYI, Diana doesn't have to perform, she chooses too so that she can stay vibrant and moving as long as she can, especially since she is no longer married and her kids are grown. She made a statement in 1979 performing in Vegas that she would never retire and that they will have to drag her off stage before she gives this what she calls a hobby and most call it work, up! She does this because she also loves us fans, but most of all, she is not taking her life and the success she has had for granted. She is very spiritual and thanks the Source from up above for her everyday in existence. On the other hand, her Nemesis are not that fortunate, and like most black entertainers are force to continue to tour because they were not afforded the luxury of controlling their fate in the industry and perhaps did not invest their monies the right way to yield a comfortable retirement. Again, I feel sorry for them. Nevertheless, I give Ross her flowers as well. She is one of the true and few iconic warriors in the music industry that leaves you melting. Her shows are EVENTS! The only other modern entertainers that were on this level were Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, and Paul McCartney! As far as female singers and entertainers, the UA-camr would have been better off comparing her to a Barbara Streisand, Bette Midler, and Dionne Warwick, that's the class Ross would fit best in, but she even leaves them behind. Ross is the First Blueprint and Epitome of the Ultimate Diva, and I can see why she was named Female Entertainer of the Century!

    A lot has been said about Diana but she ain't afraid to hand the mike to other great singers like some lesser stars/divas do. The reason is that she knows she's the ultimate Diva and the most successful black female star. Two years ago, Gladys came to Antwerp and couldn't fill a venue of 3000. Diana came last year and sold out a venue with 11000 seats, and the tickets cost double the price compared to Gladys'.

She's a PIONEER, TRAILBLAZER and GLOBAL PHENOMENON and set a pathway for all other Afro American female entertainers to walk through. Her 1983 concert in Central Park is STILL talked about today!!!. At 80 years young, Miss Ross looks and sounds amazing and her legacy and music will stand the test of time. From Jim in Glasgow, Scotland.

    12:39 i actually disagree because she portions out her shows with numbers that she participates in choreography and doesn't more than her older shows because she is 58. She is still giving us heavy dance moments that she has always given us but the age factor comes into play of her doing those choreographed numbers back to back on tour. For example, in her very earlier tours (janet. tour, the velvet rope tour and all for you tour) she did a whimsical concept medley act filled with songs (usually with Escapade, When I think of you, Miss you Much. Runaway. Love will Never Do Without You) that she didn't dance on stage with the rest of the dancers but it allowed her to sing and do popstar things like what Kylie, Katy Perry, Spice Girls etc do during their up tempos. She would then do 20-30 mins of back to back heavy choreographed numbers before doing a ballad section to cool down. In recent years however she equally disburses those songs in her tours now so she can get ample time pace herself between dance heavy numbers. Also the essence show is only one hour from the 2 hour together again tour show which has alot more dance moments. Obviously Janet doesn't want her whole tour professionally filmed exclusively for Essence so she took out some songs out hopefully for the release of a concert special in the future

    i love y'all. This is SUCH A GOOD CONVERSATION. I'm Patrick L. Riley - Author of "That's What Friends Are For: On The Women Who Inspired Me". I amplify THE DIVAS you honor here - and more. DIANA is mine. And I have to say I agree with the ROSS '83 commentary. That said, LET'S GO UP and THAT'S HOW YOU START OVER are BOPs, now... LOL. And word is she chose to work with Ray Parker Jr. for UP FRONT and LOVE OR LONELINESS instead of a suggested and being-worked-out PRINCE session or two. Was in RIGHT ON? magazine - at the time. LMAO. Okay, just one more bit of context: In many ways, DIANA's DRAMA of '83 dwarfed the music. This album came out between MOTOWN 25's taping/airing and THE HISTORIC CENTRAL PARK CONCERTS - Day 1 & 2 (and then the residual drama she dealt with to make sure all reconciled with NYC's budget since they did TWO DAYS instead of one). But after CENTRAL PARK, she would reflect on the HISTORIC NIGHT on THE TONIGHT SHOW with Johnny Carson and she did a SIZZLING "LET'S GO UP". Maybe that should have been the LEAD OFF SINGLE.
