Does your second stage regulator not automatically push air when already attached like that? I’m using the brand new MSA and that seems to be the hurdle I face using this technique.
5:30 look-up is so brainlessly obvious, but never heard it before. Brilliant suggestion & video. Last key point would be: if your colleagues are traditional glover removers and 90 seconds to mask up…you will be 75 seconds ahead of them & 75 seconds less air before going into hazardous environment…so train with them you speed development or you will be on ladder waiting for everyone else…
Suggestions helmet earflaps mine keep getting tucked in and im fighting to pull them down over my neck during practice run operating with a n5a with long ear flaps
Gonna try this out but I’ve gotten so used to my departments way. We’re fully geared up on the fire ground until we need to go interior, that’s when we plug in.
Yes, thank you great video. Mask donning everybody did it differently most guys remove gloves prior. I kept my gloves on to save time but, I had to find the right size gloves to feel my fingertips. This to me was the key & gave me more dexterity to clip into the helmet & pull the chin strap.
What happens when you’re outside and there’s a downed FF or when your assisted ladder rescue turns into needing to jump inside? You can respond with your mask on, but becoming proficient at a skill is never a bad thing and avoids you ever getting caught off guard. Our complacency is the biggest downfall for our citizens. Mask up whenever you want, but don’t let it be an excuse to not be better at your job.
Matthew, "most efficient" by what standards? Having a mask on when you get off the reduces our ability to communicate (talk and listen), reduces our vision and can reduce our ability to get a good 360 or two sided view, the pot hole, etc. i'm sure you fight fire all the time, make rescues and just kick ass but their are definite drawbacks from not only masking up in the rig but your negative attitude
I do this technique, I also added regular size key ring holders to each of my lower straps, gives you something to feel/grab on when tightening the lower straps
Suggest open rings that have a practiced tension release (opening)…otherwise, you might have threaded entanglement in their and risk being forced to remove helmet or mask equipment to release yourself. You can find open rings for this purpose and you can test how hard and where you have to pull with entanglement. Some rings specify the tension to release - you might simple need to hold cover with two hand and lunge away from entanglement to release via ring opening. Just a strong suggestion with too much detail ;-)
Just a heads up, if you tape your mask and something happens to you in a fire once the investigation happens any chance your family had in getting some compensation is gone.
привет из России. многие пожарные, которых я знаю недооценивают важность быстрого надевания маски и я всегда боеготов раньше остальных и часть первоначальных действий ложится на меня). ты доносишь правильные идеи, поддерживаю)
Does anyone else have problems with their rubber seal folding inwards? Every time I put my mask on I have to put my finger in both sides and pop it out. Super annoying lol. Great vid tho
I'm in a voluntary fire brigade here in Germany. Obviously some things are different here. Mainly the helmet. The mask and the hood are silimar tho. I don't see people putting on mask so fast. And I am a bit suspicious about your method. I'm worrying about safety. Masks have to be air tight. When putting them on that quickly and not checking wether the mask is tight I can see real hazard due to the mask not fitting correctely. Especially I'm thinking that some of your hair being between the mask and your forehead making the mask having a leak (which may be your death sentence). (The hair thing is even more important to me, bc I have long hair). How do you make sure the mask fits correctely whith this way of putting it on?
I have been doing it this way for 6 years and have never had an issue. Neither have the hundreds of others I’ve taught. I pass our annual negative pressure seal test every time with no issues. I can’t convince you with words, just try it if you’re skeptical. If you can’t get a seal this way then adjust your top straps until you have them preset enough to obtain a good seal. There’s not much else to it.
@@MattHarlanFF There also is a big difference in tactics beetween Germany and the US. In Germany, you will have up to three preplanned teams of two firefighters each plus officer and engineer on a engine. So we have a total of 4 or 6 guys for paid crews; 6 or 8 sometimes even 9 for volunteer crews. On fire calls or calls involving gases, the first/attack team will always mask up in the engine while responding. Depending on call and engine layout, a second team might also don SCBA and mask up. When going interior, the team will connect their air valve to the mask and that's it. You see, speed is not that huge of an issue as the initial FFs mask up while still responding.
Great video, helpful tips! Thank you! 🙏
One of the best technique videos I’ve seen, awesome work thank you!
Fuck yeah dood! Thank you for this! Incredible technique and speed

Is the air to your cylinder shut off so youre holding your breath for a few seconds until you turn it on?
No.

20 seconds and gloves on is my departments standard. No one waits.
Hey bro, I know I’m a bit late but I’m looking into getting some new fire gloves. Which brand do you have on in the video?
Pro-Tech 8 Titan gloves in the video. I currently use Vanguard MK1 gloves.
What happened to this ledgend
Thank you for your service in the fire service much appreciated!
Excellent!

This is awesome. I'm on track for EMT, then Fire Academy in the Spring. Thank you for this tip!
Nice
super helpful, thanks bro
You have a beautiful mustache
How to mask up in 5 seconds or less......que the 7 min video 😆👍☺️ Great video!
Your last name is my first name that's crazy to me.
Great tips, Bro. I learned a lot from your video. Good stuff, and epic ’stache, Brother!
Atta Boy
Maybe not many have noticed or said this, but you sir. You have a glorious mustache.
Have a nice day
This video was as amazing as your mustache. Good job.

Do you still get the seal with your hair in the mask like that?
Yup, 100% of the time.
Thanks for this video! Helped for when I’m going to become a firefighter!
The most efficient way is already having your mask on when you get off the truck where all you have to do is connect the regulator.

“5 seconds to mask”…… 8 minute video 😂
He looks like a 13 year old with a mustach lol.
This video was disappointingly not 5 seconds

@@ofcv1238 your nomex hood goes over your face mask/straps eliminating that risk of entanglement

Same thing with name stickers on mask lenses or not wearing nomex pants, etc. thank you for the heads up!
Mustache is 10/10, be careful not to catch that baby on fire when entering a structure fire.
Good info. The mask is the most important thing before going into an IDLH. Need to practice putting it on right rather than rapid.
wish i would have found this video 10 weeks ago... I graduate from Fire School on friday. Still very helpful tips moving forward with my career
I have scars on my ears from putting on that Scott mask like that so many times.
I know Caleb Curre.
