Would be interesting if you can compare the sustain the guitar gives with either the Hipshot or the Evertune. Considering the model with the Hipshot you have there or the Charcoal version which also looks awesome which has an Evertune on it.
Could definitely do a shoot out for sure, I can tell you right away that there’s definitely a slight loss of sustain. It’s more noticeable on the higher, lighter gauge strings. It’s a trade off for sure, but it’s a trade off I’m willing to make!
Great video, love the walkthrough! Curious why you went with the toggle switch for voice 3 instead of wiring to position 2 and 4 on the switcher like a lot of people do. Is that because it’s just a 3 way switch on the guitar? Might have missed that explanation if you said it already. Keep posting videos!!
You know, I didn’t consider that, but I’m also not sure that this is even really a possibility. I say that because, in my understanding voice 3 isn’t truly a split coil sound, it’s simulated split coil sound that they do with some sort of black magic haha. I could be wrong though, I need to reach out to my Fishman rep and get more clarity on how they’re achieving this! The other side of that is, you are correct, it’s only a 3 way switch at the moment! Using the toggle switch to reach voice 3 also allows me to still use my push/pull tone pot to switch between voices 1 (standard active pick up voicing) and voice 2 (JB/passive style voicing) as well. So ultimately, we went with this configuration for ultimate flexibility and tonal options!
Walrus Audio Canvas Power HP has 12V 3A btw
For sure, this is defintiely a great option now, it wasn’t released at the time that I made this video I believe. I also think I’d still lean toward the DC7 if I was making this board today. The DC7 is still more compact because because it doesn’t have an external wall wart like the walrus, it takes the IEC direct in! It’s great that we have more options for powering the QC though, I wish Neural would make a more reliable, clean stock power supply also
@ agreed!
@ChrisDavisTGI HI! Could you tell me please, i understand how to change presets from logic to QC, but how could i change scenes on QC? i remember you told on your channel that you will post video about How to set up automation from Logic to QC))) we all waiting this video)))
The video on this will be out soon! I’m going to make it using Ableton, but the time concepts will be able to be applied to Logic also
@ChrisDavisTGI I found in another video how to change scenes from Logic)))
I saw you at the Mexico show! And we have been chatting after the show about this wonderful efficent way to travel with the Quad Cortex. Now and thank you I bought mine at Sweetwater. Thanks for this kind of videos I learn so much.
This is awesome! Thanks for coming to the show and checking out the video!
Hi Chris! I've followed your lead and gotten an EW-DP for my wireless guitar as well. Could you share the Gain settings you set on your device, Do you know what the correct gain for Unity is on these units? I've left my unit of -21dB (I'm using the CI1 cable with my EW-D SK transmitter) but I had to raise the input gain on the quad to 12dB (from 0.0dB) on my Quad to match my cable. I tried raising the gain on the unit itself but it seems to cause clipping. Any comments?
ESP custom shop is probably the best there is. Very nice build, great choices.
Thank you! I continue to be blown away by this guitar every single time I pick it up!
such a beauty...blue is such an underrated color! Im a bolt on hater but thats one id accept having
You know what, I used to hate on bolt on necks as well, but I’ve grown to really appreciate them!
Good info man. I spent about 3 weeks with our singer's QC setting it up for him but didn't dig in too deep with the scenes and all the routing and what not. We do 90's cover rock so very straight forward. I've owned all of the modelers/profilers, spent a year with the AxeFX 3, downsized to the FM3, spent about 2 months with my review unit Tonemaster pro (which I LOVED) and recently picked up the nano cortex and after hearing my amp's profiled with that thing, it was game over. It pairs well with the HX stomp for slightly more robust effects but I wanted to consolidate into 1 unit... called up my dude at sweetwater and have a QC headed this way so I'm deep in the research phase of how to do some of the less basic stuff and this video gave me some good ideas. I feel like every digital device these days can pretty much do most of all the same stuff (other than some profiling and others not) so I'm just trying to gather as much info on the QC as I can before it arrives so that new device learning curve isn't as painful as it was with the Fractal... Geez... That thing was a nightmare but it's also obscenely powerful...way more than I needed.
This is exactly how I would spec out an esp dc custom, to the t. I love it. I'd buy a Ltd sig in a heartbeat
Wish we could do a sig model, I’d love to have more than one of these haha. ESP would need to know that people want to own one to know that it’s worth them producing a bunch so it’s unfortunately not up to me, but maybe one day haha. Stoked you dig it!
I bought the ew-dp and unfortunately something is going with the volume pot. I thought I had a scratchy pot but it does the same thing on my other guitars. It sounds great but this isn’t going to work.
TGI has been one of my favorite bands since FATFO. I just ordered a quad cortex and I'm so excited to play along with the albums with the presets. Oh man, so excited. Ty for making these videos and the presets. Cheers 🍻 bro 🤘🏻
Stoked you’re joining the QC family, it’s such a great piece of gear! More QC videos coming in the future!
Quad Corteces
Best QC videos on YT
That’s a huge compliment, thank you!
Any reason to put your time based effects after cab sim? I usually run mine between amp and cab like a traditional set up. Lmk
Good question! Its a two part thing, first reason being that when I was running in the analog world, I preferred running my FX through the FX Loop on my amp and this is a bit closer to that signal flow. That would technically be putting the time based effects between the amp and cab blocks, but that plays into the next part. The second reason is I’m treating this a bit like I would in the DAW/Recording world where I would be adding delay/verb on a recorded amp single which would be adding it post amp and cab. There’s no right or wrong way to do it, it’s just a taste thing! My Wash It Away preset uses a delay block before the clean amp because I like the way it hits the input of the amp for that specific song, just totally a taste thing!
What are the multi-pin connectors you are using for audio and do you love them or wish you had gone in a different direction? I am currently trying to pick a lane for a much less demanding application and was waffling between ELCO/ADAT or the Tascam Db25 but I am open to other options. I probably only need a single 16 channel setup, so don't need a really dense pin count. Ty!
I love the multipin stuff! I wish maybe I chose a more universal version of a multipin connector but it’s a big time saver. I wish I would have done multipin to multipin on both sides also for super fast set up/tear down, I was just concerned about a cable shitting out and not being able to connect anything, but otherwise I absolutely love it
Hey man, Cioks released an extender called the Cioks Crux. It's an extender that literally has a sinlge 12v 3a outlet, perfect for Quad Cortex. So you don't have to waste 3 other plugs just to power up your QC. Cheers, great video.
Yup! It just didn’t make sense for this build where space was already so limited on the underside of the tiny board and all I need to power is the QC and the tiny wireless unit. We won’t be adding anything else to these pedalboards so there no worries on using the multiple outputs! The Crux is a genius add of for bigger set ups for sure though!
Thank you for tab Chris! 🤘
For the Shure family in the room, the SLXD15 is the equivalent of”on camera” device in Shure world! … SLXD5 receiver is a small body pack you can mount on a pedal board and the SLXD1 transmitter is a solid body pack. Does the same thing and is super compact! … curious on the build quality of the transmitters for Sennheiser? The SLXD transmitter is a bit plastic-y
The EQ-DP feels very sturdy! I currently don’t have it on hand so I can’t exactly recall what material it’s made out of, but it feels very robust!
Excellent and informative video, and thank you for sharing that great preset!
❤️🎶🎵🎸🎶🎵👍🎶🎵🙏🎶🎵🍀❤️😎
We need this with the bass tones!
Very nice sound! Love it! One question, I am really new to this, where do I find or get the Impulse Response "TAKE IT TO THE GRAVE"?
Hey! It's a preset from the GetGood Drums Cali Oversize pack! It's in Nolly's section of the preset menu. It's a blend of 2 Mesa Cab IRs, one with a 57 and one with a 421 if I remember correctly
@@ChrisDavisTGI Thank you for your quick response!
a 3 year wait hurts my soul.
Haha I think the timing of my order didn’t help, I ordered midi 2021 coming right of out the pandemic and at the height on supply chain issue! I think it’s typically more like 12 months
How do you level the presets (the outputs). Do you have all scenes leveled the same, or do you e.g. boost the lead by a couple of dbs, lower the clean and so on? Many thanks for your answer
Hey this is a great question! I typically shoot to have the scenes pretty equal in volume. But I also have the luxury of a having a dedicated front of house engineer who knows when things needed to be boosted in the mix so I don’t have to worry about doing that on my end. If I didn’t have that though I would definitely be building in increases in output into the scenes that needed it!
Hey Chris, the way i do it i assign the ouput blocks to scenes. I aim all scenes to have a output between peaking between -14.5 and -12.5 db. Of course the solo scenes are bit boosted. We also have our FOH engineer, but with our level in the band, we try to do as much work as possible. Just redone my bass preset, and im happy with the results. And btw - your compact sennheiser wireless saved me a ton ;)
Amazing Sounds. Great like 👍
Hey thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
The Sennheiser EW-DP looks like a secret weapon for most guitarists. What cable did you use to connect the 3.5" to the input on the QC? Could you send a link for that? Are there any impedance issues there?
Yeah it’s super cool, we’ve used this set again since to do 2 fly dates in the UK in May and we’ll be using them again on an Australian tour next month! The EW-DP comes with a 1/8” to xlr cable that we use, but you could also you an 1/8” to 1/4” cable like you would use for the Sennheiser instrument wireless packs as well! No impedance issues that I’ve noticed, but you could adjust the impedance settings in the I/o settings in the QC if necessary!
@@ChrisDavisTGI oh snap, that is awesome. We’ve been looking for something like this for ages! Thank you 🙏
@@ChrisDavisTGI One more question - do you power the Sennheiser on the pedalboard or are you using the rechargeable battery? I see that it takes usb power as well.. just wondering how you all do it ;). Thanks again!
@AL1CE we use the USB power output on the ciocks DC7! I believe I showed in this video, it’s a usb to usb c cable!
@@ChrisDavisTGI now that is massive. Thank you!!
@ChrisDavisTGI could you upload this preset too?
There’s a link to it in the description!
@@ChrisDavisTGI i download yesterday and it's the same preset that in first video (without plugin Plini)
@@olegkargin8121there are two links in the description, one to the pre 3.0 release and one with the Plug Ins!
Phantastic video! Great explanation, editing, filming, playing, sounds … man!
Thank you so much, I appreciate you checking it out!
@ChrisDavisTGI could you tell what's the model of guitar? I think it's esp Ltd sn-1000, but o couldn't find in esp catalog.
Hey! This is my ESP Custom Shop, it is an SN model but made to all of my personal specs! There’s an unboxing and in depth explanation video on my channel!
2 plugins in 4 years since the promise of it being included along with basic functions that are only just arriving within last several months. Neural is a software company. I don’t understand their snail pace since releasing the QC. Think about it, the QC is almost a half a decade old. Industry standards suggest the hardware is about halfway through its lifecycle and they have not delivered on original promises.
🤷🏻♂️. I thoroughly enjoy my QC with or without the plug ins. I understand that to some, the plug ins were a big selling point, but they’re really not that important to me. And maybe it is halfway through its life cycle, even though that’s not what I’ve been told from people at NDSP, but I would rebuttal with the Kemper. The Kemper has not updated their hardware since it was initially released in 2012, they just keep repacking the same product into different form factors, but it’s still the same unit at heart. The Helix released 3 years later in 2015, and also has basically only been rehoused into different form factors. So really it sounds like you’re comparing the QC to the fractal products, who have been in the hardware amp modeling space for much longer and only have to worry about compatibility with their own hardware rather than marrying the DAW/PC world with a hardware unit that runs different chipsets. I can see your point, but Neural is delivering the product the fastest and best they can. I’d rather a product that works then them rush something out. And again, I was also content with my Quad with zero plug ins 🤷🏻♂️
High quality content, as always! I agree on the Transpose, it's a bit better than the Pitch Shifter because it's simpler and more direct, even though both do their job great.
Yeah for something as simple as changing the tuning, no need to get over complicated! I do hear a slight difference in the top end with transpose so I’m not 100% sure if I’ll keep that or go back to the pitch shifter, but for simplicity I really want to love the transpose more gHa
Do you know if the open core allows you to bypass tone control? I would like to put them in my Schecter reaper 7 but I never use a tone control so to avoid clutter I’d like to put a toggle in the tone location.
You can bypass the tone pot on all of the Fluence stuff, my custom has the regular Fluence moderns with only a Volume pot and then a toggle switch to switch voicings instead of the push/pull tone pot!
@@ChrisDavisTGI incredible! Thank you sir! Hope to see you guys come to Ohio soon!
Interesting that people are buying a modeler for quite a lot of money to get plugins on it that are worth a hundred bucks. Honestly, I love the plugins from NDSP but I thought the modeling of the QC will exceed them. At least my Fractal does 😅
I don’t think people are buying it just for plug ins, but I do think that combining the DAW and live audio world is a pretty big deal. I’m pretty content with the stock QC sounds and for the most part am only implanting pieces of the plug ins into my presets. But there’s no wrong way to get the sound you’re looking for since it’s all subjective and preference, so if the plug ins are the sound you’re looking for then there’s nothing wrong with that in my opinion! Just like you’re fractal is a sound you enjoy, which is also totally fair and valid!
@@ChrisDavisTGI Get your point and clearly you're right. Just wondering why everyone hyped by it - doesn't the QC have enough amps, cabs and effects on its own? (rhetorical question 😅)
@@MatthiasBuesinghaha for sure, totally get where you’re coming from too! I think it’s just excitement about the bridging the gap of studio to live world that’s all really. The concept of being to build your final album guitar tone in the plug ins in your DAW then being able to export that as a preset into your QC is pretty exciting for sure. But as I said in this video, I’ve been pretty happy so the stock stuff and I was more excited by other features that came with this update haha
@@MatthiasBuesingI think the other side of it too is that the Neural DSP plug ins came first, so a lot of people fell in love with the sounds they were able to get with the plug ins before they were able to get their hands on the QC units, so combining the two is exciting
Thanks for showing me where the plugin presets were hiding wow so cool, Sub'd!
Full transparency, took me a minute to find them at first too haha
Love your recommendation of transpose being integrated into the input block vs a block on your preset.
Seems like it should be an easy update for them to implement (spoken by someone who knows nothing about coding haha)! Could be a cool workflow improvement to save some space on the grid for sure!
I don’t only because it hides and groups the CPU cost.
I was in no way going to use the plug ins. I imported both. I have a back up. I was surprised how much I liked it. I’m going to buy more when they update the plug ins to X.
Being able to take the same sounds from your DAW anywhere with you on the QC is crazy! I’ve found that I actually really like the stock QC offerings with amps and such, but I could definitely see me dabbling a bit more into the plug in world once more come to the QC since I mostly use the Neural stuff in my writing/recording sessions already!
@@ChrisDavisTGII don’t even use a pc. I wish I could but I’ve had a neck issue since straight out of college. Very frustrating. So it’s one reason I like the QC. I never needed the pc. The UI is that good. But I do miss seeing the virtual amps, pedals, different settings to fool with etc. this neck issue keeps me from getting the guitars I want but I have my favorite. So I’m good as long as I can play. I haven’t had tube amps that long I had the worst gear. I wouldn’t buy anything until I thought I deserved it and also I needed to save up. It’s my main hobby I’ll spend $$ on. So I do like my amps the best and the way they take pedals especially fuzz but I’ve had other modelers and this one has the feel. I think it sounds great and can only get better. The stock stuff is great. My favorite high gain stuff is Friedman, soldano, EVH blue ch and I think so far that’s it and then a few cleans. I haven’t gotten anywhere near trying everything it has to offer.
Would be sooo cool to have your distortion preset 👌 very nice video thanks for sharing.

@@xxxxxbreakdownxxxxxwhich version of the wash it away preset did you download? If it was the V2 linked in this description, you have to have a license for the Gojira X and Plini X plug ins. If you don’t have those, the original version of this preset is available on TheGhostInside profile on Cortex Cloud, the original version doesn’t use the plug ins

Hahaha I told you it was going to be some what regurgitated! 😂
What headphones do you use to dial in tones? I’m using a pair of M50x but always add an EQ to the end to make the headphones output as neutral as possible (you can find settings online for all headphones). I really wish they had a Global EQ for headphones only.
Honestly, when I’m dialing in a tone I typically do it through my studio monitors, and even with them I run SoundID Reference to correct my room response a bit! But I’ve also listened to guitars so much through these monitors, in this room, that for the most part I’m just able to trust what I’m hearing!
I'm gonna be straight with you man, I got the Gojira X plugin day 1. The plugin compatibility is sick. The rest of it is really nice. I dig the new transpose feature. It sounds a bit more true to down tune and so on. The side chain function is interesting. I'm trying that out actively as we speak.
My only gripe with the Transpose is that it definitely loses a bit of high end that the Pitch Shifter block seems to retain, but it’s not super crazy. I haven’t quite decided if I’m sticking with the transpose or going back to the pitch shifter just yet. The sidechain is going to be a super cool feature I could seem them expanding on in the future for sure, super useful tool that gets utilized a TON in audio production, really powerful to have in the QC now
@@ChrisDavisTGI Absolutely. My tone is rather mid and treb heavy so I can stand to lose a little bit haha. It seems to be an option more so than anything.
I’m here for the Nerdy QC Info
That’s all I know how to do it seems haha
Super informative and enjoyable. Fluff better watch out! 🤣
No way, Fluff is the goat and I can barely string together a sentence on camera haha
Seeing this makes me a little down and out not being able to own a QC. It sounds amazinggg! But my headrush mx5 will just have to do
Nothing wrong with a head rush though! I truly believe that with some time spent tweaking and the right impulse responses, any of the modelers on the market these days can sound great! It’s just all about getting to know your tools!
@ChrisDavisTGI indeed sir! 🤘 I'll definitely try and catch your next tour date in Dallas!
