Will the Big Laser Fit in the Small Shop?

    Most of the projects done are too small. They are only good for top of working table decorations and such. The laser engraver for a pin up photos and wall decorations with a much larger working are are way too expensive😂

      @boscaljondesignco sand it? Stain it?Lacquer it? Maybe burn something in it? You literally just put legs on a log.....

    • @boscaljondesignco
      @boscaljondesignco 19 днів тому

      @zachboatwright1167 oh okay, I understand now. You’re under the impression that this video is a complete build video. This the process we took on this specific project. A couple years ago, we picked up this maple log from a local tree that had just been cut down. We allowed the tree to begin the drying process outside. We realized that this maple log had turned into what people call spalted maple. This is a natural process that occurs and if caught at the right time, the log has some pretty cool features. We put the log into our solar kiln to finish the drying process. Once the log reached an appropriate moisture content to start working with it, we brought it into the shop. We built a jig to make the top and bottom parallel to each other. At this point we took to filling all of the small cracks and voids with CA glue. Once the CA glue was completely dry, we sanded the entire piece with an orbital sander. We sanded the log to 150 grit and applied furniture finish from Walrus Oil on it. This product leaves a very low sheen on the surface and is a clear finish. Once the finish was cured, we took the small hair pin legs and attached them to the underside of the logs. Hope this clarifies that a lot was done to this log before legs were applied.

    Never use tape, so many videos showing you should use tape. Been doing laser machine service for years. The problem with tape is the laser vaporize the glue and some cases can bond it to the mirror coating. Best to use clear acrylic, even at high power the laser will take a while before burning through. This way you can see the mirror clearly as well as the white spot burnt onto the acrylic therefore do alignment easily and safely without damaging mirrors. Works a charm

      I’ll have to try this. I’m always open to new ways to try. How do you secure the acrylic in front of the mirror?

    • @boscaljondesignco
      @boscaljondesignco Рік тому

      Thanks! If this jig could be the poster child of thrown together, it would be, haha. It is meant to get a semi flat surface. I’m not looking for perfectly flat. I’m mostly looking for the top and bottom to be semi co planer to each other. They do not wobble on the ground as they are right now. But they will be getting 3 hairpin legs to set on. So regardless, I’m not worried about it. If these surfaces would be sitting directly on the ground, I would have made a much better jig to ensure a perfectly flat surface. No need for overkill here.

      It’s a legit question. We tried that first. And that’s how we normally scrape glue. But with how this dripped against the grain, it was so much easier to scrape against the grain. This was also poplar wood. So going with the grain with the chisel tended to dig into the wood. Whereas across the grain prevented this!
