what was the added bolt on screen to the windshield? Did it help with buffeting?
not really i'm 6'6" so my head is right in the buffer zone even with the extension
Well done. I wish it, the video was longer for the way back. So beautiful and interesting. My wife and I will go two up next summer. We know to skip the sand in Wyoming thanks to you. Happy trails, Kent and Sara ~ Montana
Thank for watching my video. The trip was a blast, but rushed due to time off work restraints. Me an my friend just love to ride. yes the way back was a blur 1400 miles in 3 days i think, and the Hwy rout hime was boring . Hwy 550 is a must do though best part of the way home. Good luck on your upcoming ride. stay safe.
Well I applaud you for taking such a big, heavy cumbersome bike like the GS along the CDT - well done chaps. Not sure I would want to! Some great scenery along the way, pity you didn't take the tike to stop and enjoy it, or the locals! The video was excellent entertainment though and I am glad you found your jacket. This sure was the Contiki tours version of the CDT!!
Bikes were perfect for the trip not sure i would want anything smaller! The GS is surprisingly light feeling and very maneuverable at low speeds.
@@kim-dianaarend4774 g'day Kim. Yeah I hear that a lot but the physics don't lie. 600lbs is 600lbs no matter which way you slice or dice it. For me , lighter is better and I endeavour to keep my total weight under 500lbs. That is why I sold my F800GSA as well, just too porky. I a now looking at the new Aprilia Tuareg 660 because of its low weight. Being 55yo and 5'7" doesn't help either. But hey, to each their own. As long as you had fun, right?
@@andrewtreloar7389 Oh we had fun alright , thank for comments and for enjoying the video !
@@kim-dianaarend4774 Enjoyed it immensely Kim, and thanks for sharing. Might see you guys in Canada?
@@andrewtreloar7389 if your in the BC , Kelowna area get ahold of me for some ride time.
"Welcome Home Dad"! That had to be nice to return home to. Thanks for putting up this excellent video of your ride!
Yes it was great to have my family welcome me home. They encourage me to go on my adventures, thanks for watching my video.
500 miles a day average. I don't understand why so many rush the trip. I would assume it's a time issue but I'd do a shorter route to take more time to smell the roses. I'm planning to spend all summer in '23 motorcycle camping but I'll be fishing, hiking and taking my time. I'll even spend more than one night at different locations to soak in the scenery. Anyway, thanks for the video because it's good to know what to expect. I'll definitely skip the great basin. 👍
when you gave a goal and limited time off work and we are both advanced riders... it was a blast!!
I am with you mate, one leg per day is how we plan to ride it - 15 days in total just doing the CDT and a 60-day ride all up including Mexico and Canada, with a big detour in Colorado-Utah. Not sure why I would attempt it on a cumbersome bus like the GS, when you can have a bike half the weight and just as comfortable. Great video though and thanks for posting!
@@andrewtreloar7389 we think alike. I watch several channels and have never seen anyone not in a rush. Even Noraly (Itchy Boots) whom is making $$$ while traveling has rushed on all her trips. I would have made her South America to Alaska trip last a year or two, not 5 months. She missed so many amazing things to see. I also agree about big bikes. I'm on a DR650 and couldn't imagine getting anything larger to the remote places I've been. As a solo rider I'd never be able to pick up a GS with an additional 100lbs of gear.
@@SailingCorina totally agree mate!
@@andrewtreloar7389 Wish i had the time to do it that way as well. Hope you have a great and safe trip.
19:33 yikes 😬 I’ve been on a CRF 230 on an incline similar to that one, I applaud 👏 you too for handling those heavy bikes. You rock gents, thank you for taking us along. Stay safe and ride on!
Thanks for the comments, yes Fleecer ridge was quite exciting on fully loaded GS's. Glad you enjoyed the video.
And that's why its smarter with lighter bike. In my opinion of course
iIt's always a compromise between weight and comfort. for 6000 miles i choose comfort.
Are you using GPS Kevin tracks? Thinking about a BMW G310GS for the ride, would you recommend it or not? Heading out in September. THANKS FOR THE CONTENT!
yes I used Kevin's GPS, blue rout all the way. BMW G310GS, well i have never rode one so it would be hard for me to recommend. I have watch the reviews on them and the concussion is that it's more of a light duty off road bike. It would need some upgrades for sure , ie spoked wheels, and suspension for the the gear you would need to carrie if you indent to camp. Any dual sport can make the trip if your careful with the capability of your equipment. Cheers hope your ride goes well. if you have any other questions don't hesitate to drop me a line.
@@kim-dianaarend4774 I sincerely appreciate the response back. I will take into consideration your thoughts. I bought GPS Kevin routes (have done several of his rides) and find his maps and tracks to be accurate and the ride descriptions helpful. I enjoyed your trip and it was good to see the internded route I will take. Thanks for the effort in making the video and the reply.
Great video and trip !
Thanks! 👍
I think I know the year of the bikes - but wonder. And would love to know your gear - care to add to your vid post?
Coming soon!
Good post. I "attempted" the CD this year - starting in NM with the goal to hit the Canadian border. Within three days, I would have motorcycle issue that would forshorten my trip. But there was a bit more to the trip end than that. Here is a link to my ride - ua-cam.com/video/dUfEw8TOhX4/v-deo.html. In short, what I was in need of during my trip was the partnership you and Troy had. Well done!!
I watched your video Wow! Great job , and a good story as well, i left you a comment on your channel. Keep on riding.
@@kim-dianaarend4774 Thanks appreciate it!
Decent Vid Thanks . Planning on doing this ride in 2022 on KTM 690 enduros
Thanks, hope you have a great ride, pack light and ride safe.
This is basically an MTV music video, way too much background music.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll put more conversation in on my next video.
@@kim-dianaarend4774 I hope my comment wasn't too harsh, but would rather hear the sound of the engine than background music and you really don't have to talk all the time.
@@xpabz i appreciate feedback to make videos better. Engine sounds are hard as the wind noise usually masks it. I will try to incorporate the more engine/ exhaust sounds in the next video. thanks for your comments.
@@kim-dianaarend4774 Sounds of travel, sounds of riding, good. Music rarely adds much in the sonic foreground. Nice visuals.
@@johnseidel8971 12 days of wind noise would be pretty boring.
Loved it have the same gsa great trip ,well done music was right on .,the continental hwy is awsome been there ..See you on the road .All the best in the new year .Speed safely .
thanks for the positive comments. I love my GSA. Both me and my riding partner had zero mechanical issues. It was a great ride, see ya out there, ride safe.
Awesome video ride safe
Thanks , it was a great ride!
two is a group
cool
Great Video. From Australia.
Thanks for Canada
Great trip, thanks for sharing.
Tanks for the comment. It was a fun trip.
Great video and story telling! Can't believe you guys brought the GS's down fleecers ridge! You guys rocked. Did the CDT this year on a F800GS.
Thanks for the nice comments, sure glad we didn't have to up Fleecer ridge.
I appreciate the effort that went into editing this, as it's clearly a labour of love, but the music is far too loud and intrusive. An instrumental or two peppered strategically throughout the video, can truly help set the mood, but this near constant loud noise that drowns out voices and engine notes is a real deal-breaker. Try not to put any music over people talking, or if you do - turn it down much further, until it's in the background. Moderation is the key. You need to give people's ears time to rest.
Thanks for you comments. It definitely sounds different on a variety of devices. The compression on a tv or ipad really messes with the levels compared to my studio. i will take that into consideration next time.
Another great video ruined with music.
I'm glad you liked the video part, sory the music was not to your liking.
@@kim-dianaarend4774 I don't mean any offence. I find with the ADV videos, any music takes away from the experience.
Music didn’t suck. Way cool
@@SelfPropelledDevo Thanks for the positive feedback
Crash @14:45 - nice visual effect. I think I've seen that before when I crashed :0)
thanks , we had a few crashes but this one was the worst, and we got it on camera.
Great video...made for a perfect Sunday morning, coffee in hand. Thanks for sharing! All the best from Calgary!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Glad you liked it. Was my first attempt at narating one of my videos.
Great video man! I have been planning on going on this trip with my good friend for a year. this video helped so much.
