Fanatec Clubsport Shifter SQ V 1.5 mis-shift fix
You own a Fanatec Clubsport Shifter and, from time to time, it ruins a race because it mis-shift?
One of these cases happens usually:
Going to the 3rd or 5th gear reports 1st or Reverse.
Going to 4th or 6th gear reports 2nd gear.
In this video I will show why how to fix this, why it happens, how to (mostly) reproduce the problem and why other so called solutions seem to work only for a certain time (or don't work at all).

THANK YOU! Been dealing with this issue for months. I even changed the cable and kept missing shifts, but this works like a charm. Great explanation!

I can't wait to get out of the fanatec ecosystem.

They could and should have made better decisions regarding this problems. Other than that I haven't had any other issues so far with a full fledged Fanatec rig. There are certainly other attractive alternatives.

Adding the tape 100% fixed my problem. I would have never guessed that'd make any difference. Thanks

Great. I am happy to report that, after 7 months, still not a single mishift for me since I applied this fix.

is there a way you can show a before and after picture of what you did? I can't tell how you applied the painter's tape to those components of the shifter in the video.

At 2:34 you can see more or less how it looks after applying the painters tape. I just took a small strip of painters tape and put it around the connector. This made the connector sit much more tightly.

Holy crap it worked! I've been experiencing this type of misshift behaviour for the better part of three years now. I have done all the other 'fixes' like the tape under the pcb and a completely overkill ground wire, no fix for me. Your suggestion worked like a charm for me! From the moment I got into motion plaforms, the problem started. I switched to a more powerful motion platform this week and pulled whatever is left of my hair out because the misshifts were occuring every 15-30 seconds. In other words, undrivable. I googled 'Fanatec shifter misshifts' for the umpteenth time and saw your (new to me) video. Figured I would give it a shot and found that the connectors were indeed a bit loose. I noticed that the glue that is there to hold the connector in place had degraded or melt or something, it was like gel. Bye bye solid connection, hello misshifts. Removed what was left of the glue on BOTH ENDS of the mentioned cable and put one layer of painters tape around the connectors on BOTH ENDS of the cable. I drove two laps of the Nordschleife since, no misshifts. Thank you dude, you made my day. Seriously.

Glad it worked for you. I published this video after fighting with the frustration myself. So far not a single mishifts for me since I applied this fix.

I think your explanation of the problem is spot on. I didn’t realize that sequential/h pattern switch could cause this. Instead of adding tape to the connector I used a pair of tweezers to compress each of the female terminals in the wire ends to resolve the issue. Working great so far. Thank you!

The only thing that worked for me was bolting the shifter to the rig with fiberglass bolts + washers, isolating it from the metal of the rig. It was some sort of EM interference messing with the halo effect sensor for the R,1,3,5,7 axis.

Another commenter reported similar behaviour, yes. Once the shifter works fine, however, is a joy to use.

I can see that my magnet under the one PCB is slightly off axis....any idea how to adjust the magnet position??

    • @mso9319
      @mso9319 3 місяці тому

There are other videos that explain how to realign the magnet. I believe is mostly a matter of pushing it back into position but check other sources.

I am not disputing the fact that your problem was caused because of micro disconnections as you put it but the main problem with these shifters seems to be EMI or static issues caused by bad cables, some are having problems simply because they are connected to a Fanatec wheel base. I have received my new Fanatec shifter yesterday, at first I connected it using the short RJ12 cable to the USB adaptor which was then plugged to a cheap USB extension. After calibrating it I noticed that when in 5th and pushing the shifter to the right it would show 7th so in game going from 4th to 5th the game will register 7th before the 5th gear causing mis shifts. It was then impossible to calibrate, as soon as I start the software the 3rd input was flickering, putting it in first would show reverse and so on. Then I replaced the short RJ12 with the longer one that came in the box to the USB adaptor and plugged it directly eliminating the USB extension and it is working flawless till now.

EMI problems seems to be a problem for some users as well. And a tricky problem to diagnose and tackle. Glad you fixed yours.

"...it is working flawlessly until now" Does that mean it isn't working flawlessly now or did the new cable fix it? Any you plug the shifter directly to the PC?

I added a layer of tape to the connectors, and while it did make them wiggle about less, it did not fix the issue on mine. don't any of my multimeters handy to check if the wiggling actually caused any continuity issues... mine also very rarely goes into 7th instead of 5th or 3rd, so it was not just to the left. So I took off the pcb to add tape behind it since i hadn't yet tried that, and noticed the magnet has been touching the pcb and rubbed off the coating, revealing and touching the copper(i assume ground) layer of the pcb which is not supposed to happen.. added tape to the edges of the pcb to lift the middle, and so far that seems to have fixed it. before it misshifted every few dozen shifts, but after adding tape to the pcb edges to lift it up from the magnet it's been fine for hundreds without a single misshift.

It's fantastic that you found your problem and fixed it. I heard there are problems with the magnet as well as you found out.

  • @mso9319

Just to clarify: I added painters tape to BOTH ends of the cable that connectes the horizontal and vertical axis boards. Watching the video may seem that I only added the tape to one end.
