This is just a Mai Tai without the orgeat syrup, i.e. the same cocktail used elsewhere in the book for the film "Hell's Half Acre". In other words, Eddie Muller copped out of the opportunity to create a unique cocktail for this ultra-noir film classic. Ann Sheridan may very well have used this film to rid herself of that silly "oomf girl" moniker. In almost her entire screen time, she runs around in a baggy, shapeless overcoat, tied tightly around her neck up to the jawbone. While Ann Sheridan is rightfully the star of this film, the co-star isn't Dennis O'Keefe - but the City of San Francisco itself, as the characters move about the city, involving the neighborhoods and landmarks into the story, culminating in a final scene within a famed Bay Area site that no longer exits. I truly wish that Eddie Muller would have taken the time to create a unique cocktail for this excellent film, perhaps named after the city itself, rather than the movie star. Watched this for the first time about 3 weeks ago. It chugged along until the shocking ending (especially for a code-era film). I would recommend it for the ending alone, but the acting is top shelf.

I have this book and have had this drink a couple of times and really like it. You could switch out the Brutto Americano with Sweet Vermouth. I'm really enjoying your series.

Do you ever watch your own videos? Do you realize how annoying it is to have to turn up the volume to discern your mumbling, only to have to turn it down again before the loud music returns? It's impossible to recommend your otherwise enjoyable videos. What's wrong with just getting a microphone?

For the love of god...SPEAK UP! Move your mouth closer to your microphone, or vice versa. The music is loud, your mumbling is almost unintelligible. Otherwise, enjoyable videos.

Did not know about the Eddie Mueller book on noir cocktails. Pretty cool. Noir films are heavily driven by drinks/alcohol/bar scenes, so it makes sense. Ironic to see Burr as a dangerous cad considering his later persona. Film dealt with the serious issue of date rape starkly for 1953. Anne Baxter has become a fave due to this, Eve, and Hitchcock Presents.

Thanks for putting this up. Tom Thumb was the second film I saw (it was on a double-bill with The Wizard Of Oz) and all these years later, I remember being stunned by Russ' talent and charisma. What a legend.
