Painting the Purge part 2: Contrast Paints
Merci pour ces vidéos! it's very motivating! Received my game yesterday. I'm going to use your videos to get started :)
I love your relaxing, easy manner. Also the choice and description of technique, paint you use and explanations why are very instructional. Thanks you very much. The job you have done on this guy is amazing!
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment! I’m glad you’ve found it helpful. More to come 😊
These models are very tiny, I might try an undercoat of white, dry brush with black and then blue/grays to save time picking out the fiery parts then use inks to paint in the fire.
Check out my short which covers that technique! ua-cam.com/users/shorts9jGCQyyf6zI?si=rUdXLF_mmRGvgmC-
This miniature is fantastic, where is he from?
It’s from Maladum: Dungeons of Enveron by BattleSystems
Really enjoyed watching. These guys turned out great! subbed
Thanks for the sub!
By the way, where's the 🍳😂😂
Hahaa! I was really tempted.. and to do the eyes as well!!
@@AJPaints-cn5ns 😂 I'm still waiting to see what you come up with!
That looks awesome, great job and thanks for the post!
Thanks for watching!
Fantastic!
Thanks!
Primer used? Very nice
Thank you! Vallejo black surface primer. Airbrushed on.
Excellent conversion work.
Thank you very much!
That’s some great modeling work with green stuff in the base. Great paint jobs too!
Glad you like it! It was fun to do.
Love your Maladum tutorials!
Thanks! Hope they’re useful.
Love it! Amazing job!
Thank you!
You need to up the volume in some places it was very hard to hear you. But the mini looks great.
Oh thanks for the tip. I’ll check my levels.
Excellent
Thanks!
I tried wet blending having watched this tutorial last week. Bloody amazing and actually good fun! Many thanks.
Oh nice! Have fun trying it out on other things 😊
I loved painting this having seen your tutorial last week. MAny thanks for getting me started.
No worries! I hope you have fun painting these up.
Many thanks for these Andy. I have already painted my lamentors, the Rot Troll, the Drakon, and a couple of Hellfonts thanks to starting to watch your tutorials about a week ago!! Not just that I have learned a couple of techniques - the wet blending especially :)
Thanks for this, and the other comments too 😊. I've got more enemies and monsters to come soon - hopefully there will be some useful techniques for you in those as well!
Thank you for sharing your amazing skills and creating these 'easy' to replicate video's. You make it look easy but no doubt I'll have plenty of struggles to get it right. I'll be following along all your Maladum vids as I just got the (KS) game and will start painting my set straight away. This will definitely improve my skills and uplift my motivation to keep on painting.
Hi - thanks for your kind words! I try to use a variety of techniques so hopefully there are some things in the guides that work for you. There's a great community of people on the Maladum Universe Facebook group who will give inspiration and feedback. Enjoy your set!
Enjoying your maladum painting vids. I finished priming the KS Core box and will try some painting later today. Cheers! 👍 🍻
That’s great to hear! Enjoy your painting 😊
Great Job have you painted Control Panels
Yes I have, but not very often. I'd use the same technique that I use on the eyes on these drones probably.
This channel is an actual gem. Thanks for the speedpaint version, it looks really good
Wow, thank you! Some of my players prefer the speedpaint version to the layered one.
This is nice
Can I just mail my miniatures to you and have you paint them? LOL! Seriously I'm going to be mimicking your method quite a bit. Great paint job.
Paint them up! go for it! I’d love to see them in the Maladum universe Facebook group 🙂
Lovely job as always.
Thanks!
Great work Andy ! .. am about to start on the Maladum minis (having just completed the dungeon saga origins base game expansion )and your paint throughs are the best I’ve found ,clear explanation and demonstration of effective techniques fantastic thank you they look great ! Regards Marcus
Thanks Marcus I appreciate your kind words!
Awesome! I have most of these colors, and can substitute the ones I dont. Will try your recepie! Still looks like he took a cannonball to the guts :p - Mats
Thanks Mats! Hope the recipe works for you. It’s a fun one to paint 😊
Question .. when you say you water it down, are you actually using contrast medium or water ?
Just water. I usually only use the medium if I’m mixing a whole new colour with inks as a base. I think for this I was probably using dirty pot water for thinning!
Great work! I love the effect that the layering does here. Seems to really bring out that "stitched together from bits" feel of the model.
Thanks! I found it made the mini more fun to paint as well. I enjoy adding texture and odd colours to a mini.
Fantastic job! Keen to see the layered video too, they both look great but there's some nice textures and detail that come through on the layered one that make it stand out a bit more.
Coming soon! It’s sitting on my hard drive waiting for me to chop 3.5 hours down to 10-12 minutes 😅
@@AJPaints-cn5ns haha very fair!
Incredible job. I wish I'd seen this before I painted by Hellfonts! Love how you did the tank on the back its really vibrant.
Glad you like it! You could always go back and work into yours 😁. Maybe just the tanks? On the next video I’ll do the super vibrant bubble technique. Takes longer but it looks cool!
turned out great, very well done
Thanks!
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Nice! You've given me inspiration to paint my Maladum stuff... at some point! Lol!
Great! I’m hoping to get to painting the adventurers. At some point!
Thanks I' think i'll use that guide to paint mine when i receive my pledge. What do you think about the miniatures and game component's quality ?
For single pose boardgames figures they're great. If you're used to hard plastic minis on sprues then there's definitely a difference in detail quality, but I've never had a problem painting them up. Check out my instagram and you'll find there are loads of examples of Battle Systems miniatures on there. The rest of the game components are excellent. Always high quality, they look great on the table and they're durable.
The miniatures look a bit plain and unimpressive unpainted. However once you start drybrushing there is loads of really good detail. A case of don't always pay too much intention to your first impression. Game components are spot on. Card terrain and bits are good. You get the neoprene mat which is fantastic, the books seem very detailed and really easy to read and the whole is complemented by the minis. Well impressed.
@@GrahThirtyOneA I concur!
Epico 👍
Looks Brilliant Andy - looking forward to seeing some more 😀
Looks awesome. Thanks for sharing your amazing skills 🤙🤙
Excellent!!
Nice. As a Citadel kind of guy I've used black primer, Thunderhawk Blue base, Fenrisian Grey highlight, and Blue Horror top highlight before adding in the fire. Loving the models! Cheers bud
Nice! I used thunderhawk as my blue mid tone but forgot to mention it 😅
I agree, the bluer one definitely looks better
Are you going to get Maladum?
Yup! I'm all in on the kickstarter and I've got an extra set of minis coming so that I can do some tutorial videos as soon as I get hold of them.
@@AJPaints-cn5ns Awesome! I went all-in as well, can't wait to get it! I'm glad you're going to do some tutorials, I'll watch those for sure! Thanks!
Those look fantastic! When I painted mine, i picked 3 colours that matched the walls (best I could from my Speedpaint set) and created a camouflage pattern on the drone bodies so they blend in with the environment.
Thanks! I'd love to see how they look with the camo pattern.
@@AJPaints-cn5ns I'm no where near the painter you are but I'll put together a video of my first borne figures and let you know when they're on my channel!
@@AJPaints-cn5ns i put up a short video of them on my channel. thanks!
I've been contemplating getting the Core Space sets, as they're not huge games to play, with gorgeous scenery and minis, and now, after seeing your painting series of them, I'm in all the way. Thank you so much for making these videos, as you've inspired me beyond words, and made me a fan of Core Space even before I've played the game or painted a single mini 😃
Wow! Thank you! Well I hope that you enjoy the games! I'm a big fan of the simplicity and flexibility of the system as well as the fun emerging narrative gameplay. Make sure to check out the Facebook group as there's always lots of helpful people there including the developers, play testers and fans. facebook.com/groups/349338038811268/
saw ur FB post!!! Holy hammered First Born.. hoping to see you paint the other minis
Thank you! I've just uploaded a video on the drones and I'll be doing the Iconoclasts next. Hope they're useful.
I came directly from the Facebook post. Subscribed from the first minute. The rhythm of the video and audio, the framing, the explanations of color choice, for what rendering, etc... It's perfect, especially for a beginner in painting like me. Keep it up :)
Thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to leave the feedback. I’m still figuring out the best ways to make videos so that’s all super helpful to hear. There’ll be more to come!
is that a satin or semigloss primer or is it just flat and I'm seeing things? Great job by the way! I painted my First Born core set minis but haven't cracked open any of the expansions yet. Waiting for winter, but by then I'll be busy painting Maladum minis (hopefully) LOL
It’s flat but at that point it wasn’t fully dry, and my light is reaaaally bright so it looked a bit glossy! Vallejo black primer. I’ve got extra Maladum minis on the way so I can get some videos made as soon as I can!
Very nice paint 💪
Thank you 😊
Brilliant job again, especially with white. Have to admit that I just gave up on mine and painted it silver!
Thanks Ben! I bet silver looks good though.
Loved the video thanks for sharing, enjoyed them all would just try and nail the mould lines apparent in the first two models as they really draw the eye away from the overall excellent result.
Thank you! Great critique. I’m going for a strictly casual attempt on these ones though. Mould lines and scribing on the next video!
