Susanna Reid in The Price (1985)
A screen debut for a certain Susanna Reid, now better known as newsreader and presenter of Good Morning Britain since 2014, but who started out as a child actress in TV thriller The Price in 1985. Remarkably she is 15 years old here but looks younger in a thriller where she and her screen mother (Harriet Walter) end up being kidnapped by the IRA (or Charlie Fairhead from Casualty, depending on how you look at it). This scene is the calm before the storm, as she and her mother plot to hide her stepfather Peter Barkworth's brief case to ruin his business trip as Harriet wants him to devote more time to her. Who'd of thought Susanna would look so young as she does here - or as sweet? Bless her.

First time I saw this clip (not this video, but a different site a month or so ago) my heart slightly skipped a beat because it looked just like one of Troughton's Doctor who episodes that was wiped in the 70s. Turns out the costumes are very similar, but that's about it. Troughton was a truly great, chameleonic character actor. Much like Jeremy Brett, I feel the world became a slightly darker place when he left it.
Goodness, yes both died too young. Jeremy Brett had been ill for a number of years (unbeknown to the public), but Troughton's was such a shock. Just a couple of months after his appearance in the 1st ever episode of Inspector Morse and a few days after an TV interview he was dead from a heart attack. By all accounts in real life he sounded quite a fun, jovial person, which makes it even sadder.
@@screenclips9105 Directors liked him, and that's always a good sign. There's a certain warmth that even the world's greatest actor can't totally fabricate, and Troughton had that. He died many years before I was born but no-one seemed to have a bad word to say about him-apart from his daughter of course!

No, until I'd seen the series I hadn't realized either. It makes you wonder what potential was lost to the acting world and what work she could of been cast in. Still, we have her work in this to enjoy.
@@screenclips9105 True, and to be fair she's quite good here. I could probably look this up for myself if I wasn't lazy, but do you happen to know when and why she switched careers? My guess is she just never graduated from the often doomed "child actor", which is fair enough.

And those two elderly gents at the end were veteran character actors Andy Clyde & Burt Mustin. Andy had a 45 year career in movies & TV that went back to the silent days. He was probably best known for playing Hoppy's sidekick in many of the Hopalong Cassidey Westerns. Both he & Bert were active to the end. What troupers! Bless their hearts! Andy passed away in 1967 at the age of 75 & Bert was 92 when he passed away in 1977.
You know the old saying that old British actor A.E. Matthews (1869-1960) used to say? "Every morning I check the obituaries in the papers and if I'm not in it I go to work." I think that sums up these old gents perfectly.
