Something in the Wild showcases the benefits of outdoor recreation and self-sustainability by sharing our experiences and bringing conservationists together to help protect our wild resources. We do this by harvesting our own food, growing our own vegetables, and enjoying the bounties of nature.

PA MOUNTAIN WHITETAIL DEER HUNT
With the 2023 deer season wrapping up, I make a trip to try my luck at Americas most pursued big game species, the whitetail deer. With the help of some fellow hunter pressure, I was able to harvest a beautiful doe for the freezer and had a brief encounter with a sub-legal buck.

What shelter and stove is that?
That’s a seek outside cimarron and seek outside large u-turn
Good video, great buck...but that trigger work!
Been watching your videos for a couple months …badass bro! I elk hunted with my brothers in flagstaff at 9,000 ft last year and it kicked our asses but so worth it
Appreciate that man! Those mountains will show you who’s boss real quick
Awesome buck. So glad you kept on tracking it I hate to see meat going to waste. Yes it is true about the native tradition
Nice mully
what size rangefinder pouch do you recommend. I have a full draw five. I hate rangefinder pouches that fit tight. thanks
Went from " a forked horn or quite frankly any mule deer buck" to that giant!😂 I won't say you didn't put in the effort and don't deserve it, but damn that might be the luckiest shit I've ever seen. I also will never say I'm the greatest shot, but it may be something you want to work on at distance from an ethical standpoint....which quite frankly should be most important. Trigger "squeeze" my friend, not yank. And you prob ought to go look for blood where he was actually standing, not just through the spotter😬. Don't want it to seem like I'm just talking shit, just observations. Nice work, incredible buck.
What the hell is this bs, just some guy walking around videoing himself, And cant shoot worth a damn.
Nice buck young man!!
For all those commenting on the concerns of us not actually checking for a hit on the first deer, I appreciate your concern and respect for the animal. As you can probably imagine, it’s tough to get every single second and word spoken on an 8-day hunt. After that first bout of shots, we planted ourselves on the edge of the pines hoping he would pop out. Right as we were making a plan to walk over and start tracking, he showed himself on the opposite edge with his 3 does as if nothing had happened and with no damage. Once we confirmed he was good, he crested over the ridge and disappeared out of sight. No injuries, no blood, no dead deer. In that moment of frustration, the last thing I was thinking about was filming. So again, apologies for the confusion, but I can assure you that we do our best to ensure the long term health of these animals.
For such a long video didn’t even get the shot on camera
Congrats, but some questions - how many times did you hit that deer, and where? I'd give an "A" for effort but maybe a "C" for shooting skills. Sorry but I'm being honest and with over 50 years of hunting under my belt I've never had to put that many rounds into any big game animal. Your rifle may be capable of a long distance shot but are you?
You almost seem sad you killed it
Respect!!!!!😎👍👏👏👏👏
I feel bad for that trigger
You need more experience, just the way you checked your rifle at the start told me that your accuracy could be suspect...
You are supposed to video tape the deer not you shooting lol.
Loved this video. Some real, even if imperfect hunting. It’s on the job training out there. I think other commenters are right about some mistakes made but I’ll admit I have made similar mistakes. This provides a great opportunity for us to learn and be better.
Great video I’m sure it was a tough hunt I’ve only been to Colorado once and I’m older now and couldn’t walk them mountains anymore I’m here to congratulate you Thanks for putting yourself out there good job
I appreciate that John!
Ive seen some nice bucks in that area but not one that big thow, makes me anxious for next year!! That ravine into that deep canyon is nasty.
I think i know what unit youre hunting! Awesome area!
I know what unit and exact location, ive hunted there last couple years.
Sounds like this hunt was a couple weeks ago. I may have drove through that snow storm from Hot Sulpher Springs to Wyoming. I am trying to plan a Colorado Elk hunt next year. Hoping a lifelong dream comes true.
Great buck and good sticking to it. Highly recommend some ballistics classes and then range time. I saw in another comment you didnt know what bullets you were shooting, bullet choices matter, especially at range.
Thanks for sharing! What bullets were you using? Caliber?
That’s a 300 ultra mag. I’m not sure the brand of bullet though.
Great Hunt and that was a Beast of a deer !!!
Congratulations as well!
Such a great video! Love every bit of it
Do you always slap the trigger like that? At 100-200 yards it won’t matter but you start getting to 300+ you’ll pull your shots. Should be a nice easy trigger squeeze. Sweet buck though!!
That's great, captain, obvious!
Congratulations
Amazing! I love your respect the beast.
nice buck congrats
Thank you!
Lets goooo!!!!
awesome job. way to stay patient. Gotta work on squeezing that trigger though! :)
Oh man you never realize how bad you punch until you record it lol
@@SomethingInTheWild for sure man. its tough. Maybe you know ofthe guy but if not, look up Joel Turner. I started using his shooting mentality for archery and its super helpful for shooting a rifle as well. its helped with trigger control and being absolutely present during the shot. Anyways... great job and fantastic buck!
Please tell me that big boy is headed to the taxidermist!
Awesome film, good work!
Thank you!

Ya, that’s not cooked…put it back on bro

why the fuck would anyone want to come hang tree stands... Red neck fuck
Why would anyone want to comment this on a UA-cam short…
@@Kindofahunter because garbage content is garbage content
Actually paying for hours of a pain in the bum assembly? Now that's dedication! One can only assume that after one use the frustration level is high enough to just drop that thing off in the nearest trash can and go on to the next experiment! LOL! Good luck!
Well, I don’t know? Thanks for showing us😊 The stove is light I’m sure, but too flimsy for me. There are other stoves that are better and a bit more robust. Take care😊
The government shouldn’t own land. The government is there to serve us to protect us or borders not to own land and micromanage our lives. If a state wants to sell their own land to someone F the government. Take that land from them!
I think you are looking at this the wrong way. YOU own this land. The state government is trying to take it away from YOU. Once the state owns the land, they will go bankrupt and be forced to sell to the highest bidder. This will eliminate the American people’s greatest and most valuable asset. Where else on earth, besides parts of Canada and South America, does the public have access to millions upon millions of acres of pristine land?
@@SomethingInTheWild I don’t think I am looking at it the wrong way. What you say is fine but the people that use that land should chip in and pay for it if the government has any money to buy land and pay for things that are not essential to its core function it is taxing us too much. There are people that within generations will never step foot on any of that land yet or forced to pay taxes for its upkeep through employees and equipment. For anyone that feels it is OK to take my money to pay for something. I will never use. Please feel free to chip in to help me send some cash my way to help pay for my car that will you will undoubtedly never get to drive. You may say it’s not the same thing and that is different but trust me when the tax man comes he still takes his share out of my wallet to pay for that land.
I absolutely understand where you are coming from and I sympathize with the tax dollar argument, but I would also like to bring up the fact that federally designated public land provides more benefit than just public recreation. This land is used for grazing cattle, energy production, fresh water sources (20% of all fresh water in the country originates on national forest land), provides habitat for threatened and endangered species, air purification, and the list can go on. Even without stepping foot on this public land, everyone benefits whether you know it or not. I would strongly urge anyone that is reading this to please please please venture out to one of these amazing places, I promise you won’t regret it!
As a Utah resident, Spencer Cox is a corrupt piece of shit. Trying to vote him out in favor of Write-In candidate Phil Lyman this November.
I hate to hear that, but glad to hear there are people making their voice heard!
The land belongs to the State, nit the Feds
It actually belongs to the American people
The federal government has no business owning land.
@@Thegoodguy2004you own this land, not one specific entity. If the state were to gain control, you would never have access to it again.
Hen and two polts? What does that mean?
That’s a female turkey and 2 of her babies
Good content man
Coyotes climb trees and will go after mountain lions! There’s a UA-cam. Video of it. NOW THE KLAMATH RIVER IN CAL. Hooray for the salmon return 😂🤣 UNFORTUNATELY THEYLL NEVER BE ABLE TO BE HARVESTED OUT OF THE KLAMATH EVER!! Even by THE TRIBAL INDIANS !! 🤣😂 SINCE THE CHINOOK WAS PLACED ON THE ENDANGERED SPECIES LIST FOR CALIFORNIA AS WELL AS THE WHITE STURGEON , well it’s now banned indefinitely for fishing for white sturgeon and soon to follow chinook and coho salmon 🤣😂 SOO THE DAM REMOVALS IN FHE END WERE FOR WHAT AGAIN?? 😂😂
