Works well IF you have done all the 1-6 bandit challenges before getting mugged. But if you are like me that after completing the game itself you start doing challenges then the chance is gone already. Then this is one of the more feasible ways to get this done. Or try the Van Horn like someone suggested in the comments.

I did a second run at it later with more residuum, but made no video of it. All it gives you is similar level of trinkets as you already have. Like the dropped loot. So it's not get powerful quick scheme. More like a gimmick.

I think the problem with this is that you get robbed only once. If you have not completed bandit challenges 1 to 6 (i.e. you have been playing the plot) then getting your 50 bucks back will not help. If you missed your chance then this is the easiest and fastest way to get those 50 big ones. Riding along the roads and robbing peasants for 50 cents is very tedious.
