The Underrated Charm of "For Love or Money" - 1993, A Review
Classic Hollywood Vibes: Why 'For Love or Money' is worth watching, even though it was a turning point for Michael J. Fox as a leading man. - 1993 was the high water mark for Gabrielle Anwar, and the last year she and Michael J. Fox would find leading roles in top-tier Hollywood films, but that doesn’t mean you should blame it on this film. It was a bit of a fish out of water, and while everything in the movie theater was getting gritty and dirty, it was a classy callback to a simpler time. 'For Love or Money' channels the golden era of cinema, with its witty dialogue, charismatic characters, and classy New York cinematography. Get ready to fall in love with this underrated 90s gem!

Embracing Christ would've made for a better Indiana Jones

Why did "Dial of Destiny" waste an opportunity to present strength, faith and hope in an aging icon? Hollywood's misuse of a character known for recovering precious religious artifacts is one of the greatest missed opportunities of the last two decades. There was one man in a position to say "It's true, all of it" and his name was Indiana Jones. Instead, they chose to send him on a nonsensical ...

Instant sub.
I was middle aged when Sideways came out. I said then exactly what you're saying now. This movie gets middle age in ways movies like American Beauty and The Big Chill don't.
Love Jack
Love Jack
I Love It Very Much Very Much
You had me at, "I'm a dork who likes movies." SAME. Right on!
One of my top five
I liked Mass better when it was in Latin.
I just watched it again and I still love the film. Paul Giamatti said it was a film about liars (aren't we all), and that sums it up beautifully.
This movie, and THE HOLIDAY are my two favorite Christmas movies. I'm so over IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE (I know it's the favorite of millions) but these two are relatable and so much fun. And you are correct, there aren't enough movies made like this anymore. The violence of today's movies didn't even exist when I was a teenager in the '50s. The movies made then were mostly feel--good films. Guess there was one big exception--Alfred Hitchcock's flicks. So Brad, review THE HOLIDAY, if you haven't already.
Love it!!Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Sandra Bullock is a loveable young lady in this movie , who we love to root for getting her dreams to come true.
At a macro level, the script has holes in it big enough to drive a Chicago L train through. The biggest one is the idea that the family would happily celebrate Christmas at home while Peter lies in the hospital in a coma. Seriously? But if you can manage to suspend disbelief on that one, the script at a micro level is excellent, with really good dialogue and lots of humor. You are correct that the casting was excellent, but it's Bullock alone who keeps it all together. She's adorable, and I want to marry her every time I see this movie (another huge suspension of belief is necessary to accept that this amazing girl would still be single, but whatever). Bullock also pulls at the heartstrings by making you feel her loneliness and waning hope in life. If any other actress had gotten the role, I can't imagine that anyone would remember this film at all. One correction on the review: Lucy didn't make the comment that she was going to marry Peter sarcastically at all. Rather, it was made wistfully due to yet another of her dreams having just died.
They don't make RomCom movies like this for the big screen anymore because they are better suited for Streaming channels.
One of the best modern day feel good Christmas movies ever! Romance comedy with very likeable/loveable actors at their charming best. Also, if you've lived in Chicago, this is a very accurate depiction of "Chicago's" look and feel. I really loved this movie!
Never lived there, but visited several times and felt like it did. Thanks!
Nicely done. I’d forgotten this film, and because of this review, I’m going to watch it again - around Christmas, with family.
Thanks for making it worth my time! Enjoy
Loved Burn Notice. My favorite show of all time, hands down, and nothing else is even close. I enjoyed the whole series. However, I feel that its climax came at the end of season 4 when Michael took down the Organization. Seasons 5-7 were not quite as exciting, but still good. The series took a sharp fall for me once Michael killed Tom Card and everyone had to go on the run.
Both of my favorite shows. The best of television! Burn Notice was amazing!
I loved all the season of Burn Notice as real good show to work on down time watchs.
This is still one of my favorite shows of all time...
This and white collar 🤌🤌
USA had a lot of great shows.
It's a great show! I've watched it through several times.
I loved Burn Notice and every couple years I will re-binge it if available on any streaming platform I have
I love burn notice! Still watch it from time to time
I have both Burn Notice and The A-Team on DVD and I love them both.
To your point of Rome... people ought stop looking at that as predictor (we've already missed that boat by 2 decades). Look to the Soviet Bloc states post Soviet Union. And Russia itself. Because the USD will fail before the nation dissolves. I expect that will be one of the straws to break the camel's back. Because the federal govt will only issue in its own currency. So all the govt recipients (military, federal civilians, social security, welfare, govt contractors...) will just stop working for Ol Uncle Shuga. And it won't be everyone all at once. Then the Balkan Wars start...
Civil war is coming, but just like the stock market and Christ's return, you won't accurately predict when it will happen. The cultural divide is too great. We are now just like the Balkans. I'd argue the Balkans '93. I was there for the aftermath. I spoke with locals. And it looked alot like now does. The simplest example of the divide is voting. Liberals want early voting and late voting and on the day of. So they can count "every legal vote" (just not ones for anti-establishment or conservative reps). Moderates don't care and think if they just keep their heads down things will go back to the good times of the Iraq War and the falling Towers. Conservatives know we can only have clean elections if everyone votes on election day. (and count them all then as well, just as we've done forever). People WILL get squirrelly. Some will get violent, others will just refuse to comply with the system in general. It all comes down to what Media does. Because too many let Media think for them. Act accordingly.
Really great book too, definitely worth a read if you enjoyed the movie. The sequels are okay, but not as good as the first.
Thank you for sharing! I hope to move there , for now I am stuck in NC for a while
20 years this week.
Perhaps the most unfortunate thing about the depression of merlot sales, is that audiences seemed to misunderstand why Miles even disliked it. Where viewers may have thought they were taking a cue from an expert (fictional or not) they were instead participating in Miles' personal vendetta against merlot, due to it being his ex wife's favorite wine. This was not rational criticism that others had any business subscribing to. I enjoyed the video, one of my favorite movies. 👍
Great top 5 but Airwolf, Street Hawk would be in mine. JT
great review i saw them on this tour and it was amazing but your not lying about the glasses and bald thing 😂🤘
The " Spear of Destiny " would have been a great conclusion or the beginning of an adventure of searching for the TRUTH putting all the pieces together .Loved the Indy Saga and the determination of the character and the awesome adventures he took.... 🤠 Similarly to what you just shared. Just a Thought
I personally know people who paid up to 70 thousand dollars for some of those courses, I fell for it and put 30 grand on a credit card just to find out the whole thing was an scam, but I’m also glad that the internet is finally waking up and is taking off the mask on Robert Kiyosaki and showing the world the demon he is.
I wouldn’t call being in your 30s middle aged… but okay haha. I love this film.
One of the funniest movies ever imo .What does this look like... Crash
In my personal opinion the happy/hopeful ending totally ruins it. (Well, maybe not totally.) Miles is a lost cause, and the embodiment of human tragedy (specially when tied to high intelligence and understanding), and as such he should remain/have remained. Yes, I too appreciate the uplifting ending, but if I had to choose, I'd have gone the "take it as a big boy or put that cannon in your mouth" approach. Lame sugar coated no guts ending. Hey, if you ask me.
Thanks for watching. Be hopeful. As long as there is life, there is hope.
Miles is on his 3rd book. He mentions "strike three."
Without going back to watch, I thought the “strike 3” comment was about publishers/attempts to publish. Thanks for watching.
Wonderful film ✨
I’m 24 years old and I love this movie. Such an underrated gem.
Oh, yeeeeaaaahhhh! When I saw her in that "ugly duckling" role as Laney Boggs in _She's All That_, my heart went thumpety-thump-thump. (Or maybe it was some other part of me.) What a stunning beauty! She should have gotten more roles, dammit! At least she made a comeback after she'd matured some years.
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children! Tifa Lockhart, yo!
Nah
This movie sucked.
Very funny movie, love it👍👍
I've never bought merlot because of sideways
😂
@@bradcecil9353 That really happened! Merlot sales plummeted, and Pinot Noir sales went way up. Wine experts call it "The Sideways effect"
My favorite part is when Thomas Hayden Church is trying to explain to Giamatti why he's so obsessed with women and all the chaos that ensues when chasing them. "You understand fine wine, art, literature, but you'll never understand my plight". As a lifelong womanizer myself, I've never heard it phrased more perfectly
My first time seeing Paul Giamatti was probably Donnie Brasco Forget about it...
‘97, same year as My Best Friend’s Wedding. Shouldn’t admit it, but I’ve never watched that one.
Merlot has literally never recovered since this movie 20 years later.
They call it "The Sideways effect"
