Vortex Defender XL vs Holosun 507 Comp

Finally someone came out with the perfect red dot for me. 8moa single dot with tons of lighting adjustments. As with all my vids, nothing is sponsored or given to me, I purchased all of these myself. Thanks for watching and I hope it helps someone out.
AI case sorter open source project, my thoughts.

was asked a few times about the head stamp sorter that folks have seen on my reloading bench and to do a quick vid on it. in short, do it if you sort your brass by headstamp.

My thoughts on this press. I have no financial ties or sponsorships et al on this or any product that I review. Hopefully this is informative for some of you.

    The XL does look to have a much thicker deck height though. 👍

    The Def. XL is quite long...any difference in how much dirt it attracts? Brass hitting it?

    • @calgarysparky
      @calgarysparky Місяць тому

      @onpsxmember no, it's only a couple mm longer, DPP size. After all the matches I've been to I can definitely say I enjoy it more than my 507comp. The dot is crisper and doesn't bloom or wash out.

      Way over priced in today's market and older design. Much better options with better glass and dots nowadays.

    Based on what you said, I will try the Defender as I planned to get the 507 Comp but I like the idea of the 8 MOA dot better. Thanks for the review.

    How is your OAL consistency? There is so much flex in this machine, even if setup to "perfection".

      Rifle OAL consistency is a lost cause on mine. More of a pistol press IMO.

    I've had mine for about 6 months and I actually love it. It's also my first press lol but I've been working on cars for about 15 years and currently with Tesla so I felt like I was mechanically inclined enough to just jump into a 10 station. Recently been blowing through batches of 500 9mm in a sitting without any hang ups. Only thing I've modified was printing the one part on thingiverse that sandwiches between the case feeder and press to make sure the cases go fully into the shell plate.

    Nice video. How is it running? Considering going from my Hornady LNL to one but might break down and go with a Dillion.

    • @calgarysparky

      It runs fine. It's not a hard pull and puts out at the same speed as my 750 just with more functions. I like the built in swaging and the ability to have powder check, seating and crimping in different stations. Overall it a good press and an excellent value. Only thing they can improve on is the primer rods, they are a lot undersized vs the size of a primer. I am getting a new one built that will cover the cup better.

      @@calgarysparkyI have a Dillon xl750 and debating whether to spend the money on apex 10 or x10…. Do you think this x10 is the better deal? I’m having a hell of a time considering I know a lot of people love them and hate them… I’m looking for a 223 only setup

    • @calgarysparky
      @calgarysparky 2 місяці тому

      @@D-LineReviews I don't see the apex being a better value for the money. I know it has issues also so you'd be better off saving the $1k or so for components. My press is decent but does have some of the usual quirks of this machine such as case feeding issues. I'm working on correcting it and at this price point I don't mind.

    I am iffy on that probe as well. I seen some really bad ones from creality (probes) can you put a BL touch on this? it really cured my issues i had on my creality printer with a BL touch. This will be my first Klipper printer i have 4 others running marlin

    • @calgarysparky
      @calgarysparky 3 місяці тому

      No one has come out with a mod for one yet. The mainline consensus is that the BL/CR touch is not as accurate as say a beacon or klicky probe, and I tend to agree. I haven't had any issues with a M8 or M12 inductive probe but I do a 5 min heat soak prior to any levelling functions to stabilize the probe.

    • @st0mper121

  • @what..no...

    Its a good machine, you jsut have to change the start code, cause they set the temperature on every print on 235°C and 65°C. Also just get the Z-offset macro in the print_start and you have on every print the perfect layer high. got no Problems since 2 weeks with the zoffset. 1 Problem so far what i get is - the Hotend cant hold the Temperature very well on fast wide prints. I think 21mm/s² is the end. After this it just cooling the hotend till it errors.
