What a loss to our political system. Peter a the moral compass we can not afford to ignore not only for his ideals but also for the way in which you conducta himself. Loved what he said about Sustainably and that population growth without consideration for how it impacts this part of the earth is wrong. After the last 10 years of neo con corruption we need people (not politicians) like Peter in all forms of Government.

I did a job for a someone down the street from us years ago, just after having the insulation done on their house she said some lights weren't right, neither was an exhaust fan and the occasional tingle when using a tap. Well if I had of known what was about to happen next I would have said no. Anyway the wankers this turd hired to install the insulation should be pelted with their own sheet for eternity, they did so much damage to wiring and plumbing it nearly caught me out. I had to report multiple issues and eventually someone in the government came to assess and assist, yes they assisted by kicking her out of the house sticking her and her daughters into a tiny flat and left half the furniture on the street. I'll never forget the tears, moreso I will NEVER forgive this warbling far quit or krudd for not only nearly killing me but for the people they did kill!

It might seem a tad simplistic, but - If all politicians (and citizens in any position of "power") possessed and delivered with this level of integrity and servitude to the greater good for all, this world would be a significantly better place. Cheers Pete for your service and commitment to justice and fairness, and your musical contributions which also have made a lot of folks care more about things which matter, and rocked us to the core in uplifting ways for many years.

Peter Garrett 'gets it' - amazingly thoughtful, sensitive words much appreciated by the many Australian families involved. Still, there are many Aussie families out there who have a connection with this tragedy but because so many died (both soldiers and civilians), and the families didn't find out for nearly four years, the mothers and any siblings never spoke about it...and this incredible Australian story, which remains Australia's greatest maritime tragedy 76 years later, nearly disappeared without notice. Several people worked hard to achieve the national Rabaul and Montevideo Maru Memorial at the AWM, Canberra, dedicated by then Governor General Quentin Bryce in 2012 with 1700 people present, and now, 6 years later, others continue to work to ensure there is awareness of the story in our history curriculum. A book 'When the War Came: New Guinea Islands 1942' was published by the Papua New Guinea Association of Australia in 2017 (with huge thanks to Gayle Thwaites.) There is an outstanding education package, one to two lessons only, on the Rabaul and Montevideo Maru website, www.memorial.org.au. Talk about this story ...and let's find all the relatives so that those men can be remembered ...and with the love and dignity they deserve. Thank you for the support Peter Garrett.

Intelligent man of character. Have just seen recently Midnight Oil at Hope Estate. Took me back over 30 years from the last time I saw them, and absolutely nothing has changed. Power house gig with great sound by Jim, Martin, Rob and Bones. And it is hard to fathom by his performance that he is 64 years of age....it was like he was still 20. It was clear he was enjoying playing with his mates. We may never see him again in Canberra(?), but as a vocal part of our better selves and being a thorn in the side of environmental vandalism and indigenous indifference, I am sure there is more we will hear from him personally and the boys from Midnight Oil.

Loved Midnight Oil in the 80s and 90s and was interested to see that Peter Garret had become an environmentalist and politician. But having said that I was disappointed that although he calls himself an environmentalist, towards the end of this speech he says people are the greatest resource that needs to be protected. I thought environmentalism also encompassed animals and nature? There are many animal rights issues and atrocities happening in Australia and I would have deeply hoped that Peter Garret would have done something positive in that arena. And on top of that he says Australia needs to compromise it's own policies around human rights etc. when dealing with CHINA???? China has NO animal rights laws whatsoever except for a small Animal Rights activist community doing what they can but China has a pathetic human rights record as well and this call to minimize these important issues and not allow them to be addressed when dealing with China is very, very sad and wrong. Because China is presently seen as the big kid in the playground everyone else has to remain silent and let them do whatever they want. Very disappointing.

he is, but the contribution in the "common plaece" is probably interfered by the grounding off sorts. That the people of rebelion off youth/thinkers, which he is suported by what he is saying in this situation. yes he is playing with words.. like "the man" he is also pointing out he is trying to "fight the man". but that is a woring that a respaectable or respected "man" alway has too say... or am I all wrong? i am sorry for my my bad engish btw...

I studied combined primary and secondary education a few years ago. The gender ratio in my cohort was 4:1, and men were indeed pretty rare in the primary schools I went to for teaching rounds. However, that actually means that men have an advantage in applying for primary education positions. I have seen no discrimination against men in education. If you want to teach primary, get yourself qualified and go get a job teaching primary - you should find it easier than an equivalent woman would.

Last I looked there was no easier route to gain a Bachelor of Teaching for women, and no extra obstacles in the way of men to gain same. Why men choose not to go into the profession would be the question to ask, as the opportunities are, in fact, equal.

#Auspol Mr Garrett says the people make a choice on what they call family. No Mr Garrett mother nature chooses to use a mother & father to bring children into the world, not social engineering. What about the children's choice to have a mother & father like nature intended? Please stop denying children from having the right to a mother & father for the sake of ALP experimentation.
