Removing this DIRTY 51 year old interior from my 1973 Pontiac Trans Am.
Removing the interior from my 1973 Trans Am project car! It sat for forty years and definitely had some squatters inside!

I just bought this 1973 Trans Am project car that's been sitting for almost forty years. What will it take for it to make the 1,000 mile trip home?

PDR footage from the trackday with PCA Peachstate. First time in the car and at Road Atlanta. Car is stock minus DTC-70/60, RotoFab, SW mufflers and is on Goodyear Supercar 3 tires not the stickier OEM 3Rs. Best time of 1:36 for the weekend. Had a lot of fun running with my friend John in the Gray Cayman GTS he really pushed me.
I would love to see a update on the Pontiac 👍
What a cool car, and thank you for planning to return it to stock. Brewster Green is an awesome color! Please do a full restoration series, I am huge Trans Am fan, and will enjoy watching your progress.
That $60 U-Haul trailer looks pretty good right now, huh?
Put it on the trailer save yourself the headache.
Subbed for the 73
I'm subscribing. I'd like to see the restoration of the car. I had a chance to buy a 73 Brewster green TA auto with white interior, no AC. Still kicking myself 6 years later for not buying it. I do have a 74 455 Trans Am. I understand exactly what you went through with the interior. I bought a 70 Olds Rallye 350 and had to replace the entire interior because the car was infested with mice. Mouse piss and shit everywhere. I'm a shade tree home restorer. My TA isn't an all-original restoration but I have a lot of videos of it on my channel.
god i want a 73 so BAD
What a great project!
Looks like you are close to South Central KS. Just picked up an all original 76 that has been sitting for about 15 years. Always garage kept one owner car. Very solid but needs some love. Will enjoy watching your progress on this car. The 76 will start a body off restoration this winter. If you are where I think you are, we are nearby. Maybe will see you at a car show next year.
Nice bird 🐦 brother 👍
Sitting for 40 years = valve seals, no question.
Beautiful
Beautiful car!!! I'd like to see it go back to the Brewster Green.
4 Speed car. Now I am interested in this project.
Pretty sure I heard the whine of a rock crushers straight cut gears. (M22)
Treasure! Treat that baby like treasure! I have a 77 bird that turns heads, but that 73 TA sweet, build it right and enjoy it even it your misses don`t! :) Amen

Hey Mike, just started watching your channel. Great find on 1973 trans am.. If you get time, bring the car to cars and coffee at Remington park. OKC, OK. Like to see it’
Just please leave it a Pontiac. You can get these old Pontiac motors to run good and be reliable. Keep the old Pontiacs alive!!!
My TA drinks oil through the valve seals too. With the engine running and hot, I just pour water down the carb to clean the plugs once in a while. I've been doing that for the last 11 years. I'll fix it properly one day. (too many restos on the go). The up side being it runs on new oil all the time.
also, for parts I recommend John D'Lorean from Second Gen Graveyard.
don't know your plans, but are you going to paint it back as Brewster Green?
Looks like you have screw-in rocker studs, which is better than the press-in on mine. Pontiac had a design change going from the press-in to the screw-in around May of 73. Good luck with it ... looks like a fun project.
i am here for the rebuild
Trunk floor probably matches the rear floor pans. Nothing that can’t be replaced.
Indeed it does! A few pin holes not too bad for being a Midwest car.
Bag and tag everything and take lots of pictures. I used a Painless performance reproduction wiring harness for wiring my Firebird. Quality product and descent instructions.
I remember when this guy found this car And another pontiac on the southside of chicago i was trying to make a deal with one of my mopars never happened he was high as a kite on his price at that time he said he was looking for fenders i advised him i had a set never got back to me forgot about that car until i seen the video tonight good luck to you on the build i have no ill will towards the former owner of this t a if it is the same person just couldnt come to terms i still have that set of 1973 nos fenders i am glad i kept my 1970 dodge coronet though recyle and repurpose america
Yes same person. He was still high as hell on his price but I got him down a little bit. Still paid too much but that’s okay it’s a rare car and will still be worth more when I’m done with it. The right side fender on the car is dated with a correct NOS fender. It does need a driver if I can’t have the original one repaired.
Save the classics!
Nice Barn find. I there is just something about a Trans Am
I own a '73 Firebird Formula 455. Not a SD. 4 spd,ps,pb,radio. That is it. It is red and has only 37,000 original miles. Not as valuable as a TA but is slightly lighter and is actually more rare. I also have a '73 TA SD 455. Overall in great shape. Only bad thing is the engine is missing. I bought it from original owner who said the engine was stolen in 1979. He parked it in a barn. I bought it in 1999. I put in a '70 Chevy LS5. Actually faster now but value much lower than if it had the original motor.
t5his is my #1 favorite car dude I'm pissed
Pontiac typically mixed interior colors through those years. I redid a 70 pontiac A body interior that was coded 255 saddle interior but the carpet, kick panels, vinyl part of dash and rear package tray were dark saddle. I did the same thing with the carpet and ordered the saddle when I should of ordered the dark saddle so I sent it back. If youre looking for the correct color for interior paints I found the company Kolor Korrect actually have the original paint formulas. You can get it in a spray can(not cheap) or by the quart and use a spray gun. I was trying to get the original color look and tried other paints but none were as close as I wanted. That trans am is a desirable car and worth bringing back to life. Good luck!
Correct! From my research the 1973 year saddle carpet was different from any other year so that’s probably why the mix up. I’ve heard of Kolor Korrect that’s who legendary recommends. I’ll have to get some samples. Thanks for the info!
Might be sucking oil through the PCV…
Ames performance parts is a gd choice for parts. Nice find
Mike - I use Legendary Auto Interiors for the seats and carpet and other interior needs. Just Dashes can be used for the dash repair work. Excellent work, but expensive. BTW, the radio in the car is from a later 70's firebird. Jim
I’ll look them up! I didn’t start researching the radio so that’s good information I’ll have to look for an original then. The 8-Trak is original though it was on the documents from PHS.
Awesome car but got a little work ahead of ya. If that was a real Brewster green car, that is THE 73 T/A to have...the most desirable color which actually raises the value a little, like the Mopar HIP colors. And a stick too. Check under the seats for the build sheet. Green over tan is a real sweet combo
Thank you and yes sir the green is really why I bought it. I found a red one in better shape for a little more money but I wanted a green one.
Opg and year 1 are great sources for pontiac parts. Send your vin information into pontiac historical society, for a small fee they will decode it telling you everything about car, all available options etc it came with. Video document everything before you take it off and after. Be careful with parts, lots of pontiac parts are one year only, hard to get. Treat that engine with velvet gloves. If its a 455 sd, those parts are very very unique. Remember that engine is gm but not chevy. Do not let chevy people tune, rebuild it. Pontiacs are totally different. Even the firing order is different. Buttler performance is a great source for pontiac. They are great engines. Your in Oklahoma city, big chief, and lund from street outlaws know pontiac old and new performance. Also, instead of sandblasting i would look into acid dipping the entire car. Enjoy, theres nothing like the sound and low end torque of a pontiac engine. I love them. I have a starlight black 1971 gto with original honey comb wheels.
Thats a really awesome ride big block 4 speed
Have you seen the T/A in John Wayne's movie "McQ"?
Twins…well when I get this fixed. 🤣
nice project! What was the original color of the car? I have a 1971 455ho trans am in the same colors as yours now. I will follow your chanel to see the progress . Cheers from France
The original color is Brewster Green! I guess someone didn’t like it though. 🤣
Nice . Great year 70/ 73
My favorite!
I am sure it will be a beautiful gem
Hopefully within two years!
Mike - BTW, if you intend to road race the car I suggest you change the oil pan for that purpose. The stock oil pan will not be correct for that usage. You will lose oil pressure and in the process lose the engine due to oil starvation. Jim
Thanks Jim. Randy Probst just blew up his Pontiac from oil starvation issues. Haha But I won't be road racing. Just cruising in this one!
Mike - Congrats on the find. I think you will love this car when it is completed. For an incentive check out what it could look like when you are done. The car is highly modified, but the intension is to make it look stock with a lot going on underneath. ua-cam.com/video/LCVaZqP-PNo/v-deo.html and the finished product ua-cam.com/video/941I2R4IVzY/v-deo.html. it was an automatic Brewster Green. Changed it to a Tremec T-56 6 speed.
Your car looks and sounds so good. Is it a real Green SD-455?
@@z06_mike65 Mike - It is a standard D-port 455 with Auto and Brewster Green from the factory. Always wanted a SD, but couldn't afford it. Instead, I had one made. The original intension was to just throw in a Muncie 4-speed I had leftover from another project. However, I sent it to a shop that turned out to be a mistake. The original engine ran fine when I purchased the car and when I gave the shop the car. When I got it back it ran like garbage. Did a compression test and cylinder 6 was dead - no compression. This is when the direction changed on the project. Both the original engine and automatic are in storage. What is in the car now is a production 1974 455 out of a Catalina. The engine has a steel forged Scat crank with a 4.5 inch stroke to get to the current 496 cubes. The 455 from the factory comes from the factory with a cast nodular crank that has a 4.21 inch stroke. The only thing super duty on the engine is the main ingredient - the number 16 heads. Thanks for the comment on the car. Contact Randy Combs on the dash. He may have a core to work with. www.transamdashbezels.com/
Trailer that bad boy wtf lol
Part of the adventure 🤣
On your other short clip, I see you're from Altus...my Dad was born in Martha and my grandmother's brother was the police chief there in the 20's and 30's.
It’s a small town but the car hobby is big here!
New Sub, look forward to watching this series on the TA
I’ll try and post as much as I can. Working on my video and editing as well.
shaker looks good, nice score, great cars, dial it in man!
Is this a Super Duty? What heads you have on it?
Just a regular 455 with 4X heads. Engine is all original.
If you are interested I have a set of 7f6 super duty heads round port that I would sell. One is perfect the other has a very small crack between 2 and 3 cylinder.
Great find, thanks for not changing it to an LS.
Keeping it original! I have a new ZL1 with the LT4 that’s my fast car. 🤣
