Thankyou for this lovely and detailed analysis of this powerful decolonial poem. I am from the Heaney country of south Derry where Heaney grew up and the spiritual home of much of his work. The "Moyola" mentioned in this poem refers to a river which flows through south Derry and is a river from which many of the towns and settlements in the area including Heaney's native Bellaghy. In many ways the swirling whirlpool or the source of the Moyola river is the source of his homeland. Throughout Heaney's work there is a constant reference to water, pumps, rivers and loughs and it is the great honour of my life to get to know those rivers and loughs first hand.
