I guess it's safe to say Rhododendron is a plant that can be found variegated in the wild if you look hard enough. This is the second time in two weeks that I have seen it growing in the Appalachian Mountains...

I discovered a single variegated leaf growing on a Rhododendron in West Virginia at over 3000 feet elevation.

I recently rode my bike from Washington DC to Cumberland Maryland and back on the C&O Canal towpath. Along the way, I discovered a variegated "Tree of Heaven." Unfortunately, on my return trip, the specimen I had seen several days before had been mowed over.

After a mast year in the fall of 2023, the forest is covered in little oak tree saplings. This spot in the forest is dominated by chestnut oak. I found several variegated chestnut oak tree saplings growing amongst a significant patch of saplings. Also, the mountain laurel blooms were exceptional this spring!

Only the second time I've ever seen variegated skunk cabbage. Growing somewhere in a swampy region of Maryland.

Took a timelapse video of the April 8, 2024 Solar Eclipse. Here in Maryland, coverage was 89%. Video doesn't show much, however in person, I enjoyed the experience of darkening skies, temperature drop, and crescent shaped shadows.

On a perfect spring morning, I relocated a favorite variegated Virginia Bluebell plant. Also saw great blue herons nesting in a giant Sycamore tree.

March 21, 2024. A perfect spring evening to look for wild, variegated Virginia Bluebells.

Sanguinaria, commonly named bloodroot, is a nice little wildflower, very short-lived, that appears in the beginning of the spring season. I noticed a couple of bloodroot with white stamens, which I assume is a rarer variety.
