This song is not pro or anti riot. It's meant to make you think: what could be done to further our cause rather than just mindless violence? Sometimes violence works, other times different methods are required. Lao Tse the Chinese philosopher stopped a protest by simply sitting down quiet. Before you riot know your enemy, know when to retreat.... Don't let them round you up like cattle.
Exactly, it's story telling and giving the cold, hard facts. It captures the rage and frustration of people that have witnessed firsthand the futility of every other measure and now sees rioting as the only option. It also captures the sense of helplessness and futility that comes from meeting the full power of the state in the form of militarized police, and the psychological and military style tactics they use against citizens. Really being out on the street this past summer I experienced it firsthand. This song was written about riots 40 years ago but could have been written this year. It's also worth noting that those in power were fine with the riots so long as they stayed in that area of town and didn't threaten the homes and property of those in power, AKA the real slave drivers as the song states
@Josh No, that's not the point of the song at all. The point is to tell a story. Anybody who has been out on the streets these past few months and faced down a militarized police force knows exactly what Jello is talking about here
@Josh No, I took this lyric as him exploring how the people in the heat of the moment are not thinking long term, and also how they really don't have a lot to begin with. In other words nothing to lose.. the song talks about how the police are fine with it so long as they don't take it to where the "real slave drivers live." jello is not going to sit here and lecture protesters, as anybody who knows his history and who has watched his recent videos will tell you. He sympathizes with everybody out there now. Again this is story telling

@@eldiablov2 I think the song is anti-riot and anti-police tactics. Its more of a plea for rioters to re-access their legitimate emotional/ethical response to the situation as to not make it look as if they're the bad guys and giving the police the opportunity to react violently (which in the song is implied they are wont to do). Jello is clearly anti police violence but I think he's more anti violence in general, and the rioting and looting does not hurt the police but rather the communities these people live.

@@slimyfisher1370 That's the brilliance of the song writing really. It doesn't take a hard stance one way or the other, it just tells a story, giving the realities of people who have had enough and have literally nothing to lose, and also the brutal tactics employed by police.
