Oregon Burn Morels - Trent and Kristen from Modern Forager
As a member of a indigenous community, I would say we have been focusing on mushrooms for a long time. But there has been a strategic cultural oppression against our way of life and our technologies
That is a good point. I did not have too much time to discuss political connotations of cultivations like what you mentioned. I hope some of the value of indigenous knowledge was addressed in my talk when I was discussing corn smut and the complex agricultural systems of native American peoples.
@@CharlesBruder I do appreciate the work you're doing
@@CharlesBruderKeep up the good work. Something great is On the horizon
I'm your guys' weekly subscriber 😎 absolutely fantastic, and full of mycology, and the best part you mention my neck of the woods southern Oregon.🤙
Michael beug is the mycology goat
I live in Durban South Africa in an area where they ae growing in profusion, Very interesting I have had an interest in lichens for many years . In recent years I have made a number of attempts to grow them indoors with very little success probably due to them occasionally getting sprayed with water from time to time that has a very weak solution of plant nutrients that I feed my epiphytic orchids with. any suggestions to grow them indoors will be welcome.
I might've missed this detail in the presentation, but where did you source your isolates?
What the book he suggested name is anyone know?
I really didnt need a mushroom infomation class . I needed to learn WHATto do with mushrooms for my HEALTH ! Paul Stamits.
What do you think you do with mushrooms, have you thought about eating them !...
@@meshapious1597 LoL ! Every day for years .
The fact that you continually quoted government recommendations makes me question you talk. Nothing the government has ever recommended has worked for anyone but business.
I'm with you on this, however....some people just can't convay their message
Paul Stamits. Your welcome. Any questions ?
Very interesting... back in 1972 while riding a bike across Canada I found a beautiful "golden muscaria" (as I thought) Following directions I had read, I peeled the skin off the cap and dried the peel by the campfire. A couple months later we celebrated a view over the Salish Sea by smoking the bits of dried peel. Time stood still for awhile, but nothing more. Seeing your video, I'm glad it was what it was. -
32:00 talking about doses here, for Cordyceps and lionsmane, 1gram (1000mg) was enough for me to feel benefits per day and reishi has always had strong effects on me, I started out 250mg and currently 500mg per day before sleep.
500mg reishi powder is more than enough for me per day, combined with 500mg theanine, so relaxing and if youre like really highly stressed, you add in 500mg ashwagandha.
Thank you 💯
If u make your tinctures with 80 or 100 proof vodka, there's water in the vodka already so you'll be extracting all that is water and alcohole soluble from the mushrooms.💪😊
ha, ha !!! Surely you were joking ...
no. it doesn't work like that. the water extraction is done with heat also. Hot water extraction it's called. this is a "decoction" , not a tincture. The tincture is the alcohol extract which is done with alcohol and time. combine the two, dual extract. I wouldn't recommend heating an alcohol extraction. Might go boom or at the least start a fire. Lots of good videos on the subject.
Btw I am watching you from Russia. I like your lecture. Thank you
❤
I stopped after 24 minutes as I was getting too frustrated of not hearing the questions by the attendees. Maybe it's not a good day for me to listen to this. I'll order the book from my local independant book store instead.

Very good 👍🇧🇷
Ben Woo is my great grandfather! So cool to hear you guys discussing this!
Sorry about the quality of my video camera! Don't know what happened, but fortunately looking at me isn't the important part of this video : )
omg, the story/rant about psilocybe during the questions at the end of the video is the best part haha! Michael Beug is awesome! Thank you.
I've found morels under a poplar that had beed hit by lightning and burned here in W.V. that were very different than ones I usually find . they looked an awfully like the ones yall find out west
? I wonder, what freeze drying would do? They say it retains the nutrients but removes 99% of moisture. So why add water and use the pressure cooker when you can freeze dry and powder it uncompermized?
dry freezing will not extract the actives and make them bio available.
what he said. but seriously if you have a freeze dryer you're way ahead of me. Make a dual extract ( or buy one from me) and freeze dry it. You now have a dual extract in powder form which many people prefer. I don't have a dryer so I only offer whole dry mushrooms and liquid dual extracts. I'd almost bought one for cannabis but my state government put the final nail in the coffin of the weed business.
This guys advice on protein is beyond stupid.
I don’t understand his logic… if you can concentrate the liquid soluble aspects and then rehydrate only half the fruiting material with the double extracted liquid, then dry it and pulverize into a powder, this powder would be twice as strong. You could do this infinitely, until it’s a super concentrated powder that fits in a single capsule that you take everyday. This weird fear mongering around not taking capsules is just holding back people from incorporating this into their diets.
I agree, although I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he's referring to non-soluable contents of mushroom powder. He also talked about not liking extracts, then later clarified that he meant pure alcohol extracts. Pure alcohol extraction seems very uncommon compared to double extraction, and his words didn't clearly distinguish those. Upon listening to this a few times now, there are a few points where he blatantly contradicts his own statements from earlier in the lecture.
Was hoping for interesting and useful information on mushrooms, not misinformation on protein intake.
when you cook your mushrooms before you ? dehydrate doesnt the water asorb the mushroom nutrients and you strain the water and keep the cooked mushrooms ?

Bummer, wish it was a video.
I feel like we get lots of weevils/Larvae in the burns in our area of Oregon. Salt water bath is my favorite. Nothing makes my stomach flop more then frying up and watching larvae making an exit 🤮
That was great, lots of good info. I'm dying to meet Michael in person.
Freeman was my mentor and introduction to serious mushroom identification. My husband and I even visited him at the mushroom study in Baja California. I thank him for opening up the joy and diversity under our feet. A life well-lived and an undying legacy! Pat Patterson
Background music is too loud. Not at all necessary
How do you join and where are the meetings?
You may join at the CMS Website - cascademyco.org/, we hope to continue our live streams on UA-cam even after we start in person meetings at the Amazon Community Center in Eugene, Oregon.
My friend buried a bunch of Madrone stumps and had huge flushes of Morels, west of Grants Pass.
Hopefully your friend shared!
