How to perform timing belt replacement. Help with alignment issue.

Can you guys help me. My timing belt broke , unfortunately I realize the high likelihood is my interference engine is toast , however to make sure I'm trying a new belt . Do I first need to put a new belt on it to rotate the crank and marks , I tried with no belt and I'm noticing no rotation on cams or crank . I'm sure to many this question is dumb , honestly its my first time with an interference engine and I'm not sure if a belt needs to be on there first so the engine and crank can rotate the cams . Thank you friend for any advice you can give me . This damn Volvo is so frustrating. Cf.
Ik it’s been months, idk if it’ll still help but yes the belt will need to be on to check and see if the engine still turns over. However, where your belt has snapped I can guarantee this is a waste of time, there could be holes in the pistons and you most definitely have bent valves, so even if you manage to get it to fire back up with a new belt and correct timing, it will likely have next to 0 compression

Is 2 different tensioners for this engine depending on build number of engine

Your tensioner is wrong
They revised the tentioner and model number after a certain run . The updated is slightly different.
New style tensions to the right not the left. Just found this out the hard way
Tensioner Allen should be at 7 o’clock
I have the exact same Problem, do you found the issue? I'll try a other type of belt tencinor next.
The belt does go on hard. The best way to get the belt on is leave the tensioner bolt loose and guide the belt on when tightening the bolt but still leave it 2/3 turns from tight. Using a alen wrench on the tensioner turning clockwise to tighten belt. I will post another video on this. Thanks
@@siddecell2531 i changed to an automatic tightening belt tensioner, that solved my problem :)
