Head voice, what is Head voice

Head voice is used by all these male singers, bass singer Nesternenko at 5:36 1. Head voice is a coordination of the two main muscular functions. They are not isolated from each other except in extreme circumstances (pure falsetto - extremely heavy low notes). 2. Registration and dynamics are intertwined. The messa di voce exercise is also an exercise in registration coordination and control. (...

Appoggio - from the Italian verb appoggiare, meaning 'to lean on', 'to be in contact with' or 'to support' - is a learned breathing technique that involves slowing down the ascent of the diaphragm for better breath management, resulting in the elongation of the breath cycle during singing. It involves a concerted action on diaphragmatic movement by the muscles of the thorax (chest) and the abdo...

What song is Gigli singing
"tu sei la vita mia"
The best explaination
cool, thanks for the demonstration! 🙂
Thank you for the tips.So when you breath you use mostly your intercostal muscle? The position of the larynx, must it be low or is it not important? When taking a breath, is the abdomen pulled in or pushed out? In my case, the rib cage expand chest lifts and I feel its respiratory support (sostegno) in the solar plexus area, is this correct?I ask because many singers breathe into their belly and their breathing support involves using the abdominal muscles inwards or downwards, as if on the toilet. Do you hold that exspantion of ribs or let it colapse slowly while breathing out? This exercise is very helpfull, much difficult for consonants then vowels. The handkerchief is more convinient for this.
the larynx should be low but floating. The intercostals are used on inhaling and expand. The abdominal muscles contract (inwards) during inhalation of the breath. As one uses the air when singing, the expansion slowly goes back inwards.
Very nice exercise
Tagliavini....the MASTER of the head voice
You breathed on the sides what about the back ?
@@tommytommy7351 it expands simultaneously
We sing now "Plainscapes" from Vasks with our choir. It requires the tenor to sing a lot in pp between middle C en high G. The "tenors" around me are not trained and sing in a weak falsetto but if I "blend" and follow them there, I get easily hoarse because trying in that weak falsetto a controlled nice crescendo is near impossible. Switching to head voice without a change in color is of course what I try but it's all so hard singing this way. It's the acoustics too of our rehearsal room where my pp in head voice sounds like too bright and loud although once on the concert, it could exactly be what is needed. So I think it's bad to try to blend with the others as more developed singer I think and leaving could even be necessary.
Hello can you show us what happens in your back while you breath ?
Upon inhaling the back muscles expand as well as the chest cavities
@@raymondmodestiI tried it but my throat gets dry after singing phrase any recommendation?

Thank you for this definition.
Ah Ruffo. Sheer magnificence.
hi, here's a question way out of left field, if you have a moment: since low notes like B1, C2, and D2 are basically half the frequency as B2, etc., this implies that twice as much air is released through the vocal folds? I ask because I've been trying the candle trick to test my breath management, but these low notes, especially on an 'o' vowel, send the flame crazy, although it remains still for example on a B2. I'm just curious if it's a sign I need to improve my release of air for these lower notes, or if it is simply par for the course for a low bassist, and perhaps also if this means the extra air is extra fatiguing for the vocal folds (my speech range usually sits down here as well). thanks for reading (a video demonstrating the candle trick would be too much of an ask 😁). 🙂
Pertile another awesome Tenor
Magnificent Gigli
Such purity. Gigli was a true great.
Beautiful! I am a female tenor. My voice flips into the alto range, but I would love to retain the tenor sound when going up for the F. I have always sung tenor except for the last 10 years or so as Alto 2 in choir. I am now in the tenor section of a different choir. It's really the same range overall,, but the parts sit in my comfort zone (unlike alto parts). That F is right in the middle of my passaggio.
listen to ruby helder. her records on you tube. she was a legitimate tenor . sang up to b flat below high c . you will hear what a female tenor should sound like. best of luck.
Is it not important to also sing F to A with a darker "aw" as well?Singing a white "ah" in that range was one of the worst things for my voice.Your A in Dormiro sol does not sound open like that,IMHO.
So much ease and beauty of voice BRAVO 👌👌

Thanks! I didn't count three octaves though, first one, then two octaves, then two and a half with the low d flat ;) Would love to hear more about the vowel "ah" in the middle voice/passaggio.

as a beginner, may I ask a fast question? :) when you say the passagio for a bass is at A or Bb, is this A3 and Bb3? many thanks!

I have a very weird problem which I have not seen on anyone else whether it be online or in real life. When I transition from my chest voice to falsetto there is a sharp break, almost like a speed bump. The voice changes from chest abruptly to a chicken sounding falsetto. Now between the first falsetto notes that I hit and the last chest voice note there are a couple that go missing but when I try to sing them I either have to shout them out or sing a very raspy falsetto. I have been trying to fix this for years and I have made exactly no progress. Please help me out.
@vincentzacharias8386 I would need a recording of what you are doing vocally. Have you tried going up into the mixed voice in an owl like hoot?

Hello Raymond Modesti, You are the finest bass-baritone of more than half a century. I'm looking for a teacher like you as a model. I've watched several of your videos, although I haven't fully understood all your meanings yet. However, your singing technique is something that all singers in the world must learn over this half century. I'm younger than you by a few years. I study and sing tenor myself. You first have a very correct way of speaking. Caruso said that correct singing must start with correct speech. If young people could learn your way of speaking and producing sound, it would surely help. Here, you are demonstrating your correct method. However, the student did not understand. You asked him to touch his lower back, which is good! This area is the power zone for bass singing. But your student has not developed the chest space and abdominal space like you have. His breath cannot reach below the lower back waist. You say your part, he sings his part, and the problem is not solved. You must first point out his error in breath distribution. He lacks chest and back space, which is fine. As a teacher, I would first ask him to sing half as softly and reduce the volume by half, then point out the expansion of the back, waist, and diaphragm, and push the breath forward as you did. Of course, the most important thing is not what you are pointing out to him now, but letting him correct it immediately. He can't do it. He must spend effort to practice the space in the chest and abdomen, expand the front and back diameters of the abdomen and chest, and see that the waist and abdomen are much larger than he is! Although you have fat, I can tell at a glance that the internal space of your chest and abdomen is very large and can be compared with Caruso. This student has no space. When he sings a note, his mouth and nasal cavity are very hard, not relaxed, and you have to point out to him. He needs to exercise the internal space of the chest and abdomen like you, and it takes several years. Master, your demonstration, your physical condition, can be easily achieved. But he can't do it. Like the three tenors, he took a deep breath and sang the first note, and almost all the breath of the chest and abdomen was above the vocal cords. This is a bad habit. If it is not corrected immediately, he will never be able to use abdominal support correctly in his life, and neither the bass nor the high notes will have strength. I hope you have the opportunity to point this out to him. Nevertheless, I admire you very much! Thank you for your contribution to human singing technique!
Thank you for your compliment. Luckily, I was able to work with this particular bass when he joined my summer course, and he made a great improvement! He is a very talented singer and a wonderful human being!
Hi Raymond! Thank you so much for all of your videos. I had a question. I've started the "integration exercises," let's say, and as I come down when doing them, at about G#3 I notice my voice becomes *extremely* light and it's very easy to lose the compression if I'm not careful. I've only been doing these exercises for less than a week, so my question is, am I on the right track? And I can anticipate this getting stronger/less light over time? Or is there some way I should be working on incorporating more chest in order to do the exercise properly? I hope that makes sense! Thank you again :) P.S. I've struggled my whole life not understanding my voice because it's so low, and it seems like not a lot of people understand how to properly develop it; so your channel is exactly what I needed to gain some much needed direction :)
@austinhughes9780 Make sure you stay on the breath at all times It will take several weeks for you to find the balance in your voice.
This is exactly how I am able to transition into my head voice so smoothly as a countertenor. If I don't create that pharyngeal space, I especially notice it if I haven't sung with the classical rep in quite a while, it takes a bit to get used to all that space. I call it hitting the ceiling if I am having trouble, because it literally sounds closed off and notes don't come.
Hi Mr. Raymond. What to do if the voice is overcovered even on the bottom? I should be a low voice but I tend to not sing open enough in the bottom range, always making more covered sound
Difficult for me to answer without hearing you, but I suspect you do not Integrate enough head voice to the low voice
